Trying to do a full install to usb drive
  • PaulPaul May 2010
I am still rather new at linux and am spending my spare time getting my head around some of the terminology. I have successfully made a liveusb of slitaz but want now to make a full installation on a usb drive. The documentation suggests my menu.lst should be this:
    title SliTaz GNU/Linux 3.0 (Kernel 2.6.30.6-slitaz)
    root(hd0,0)
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.30.6-slitaz root=/dev/sda1 vga=normal rootdelay=10

In my case the usb drive is sdb1 and when I try to boot using sdb1 rather than sda1 (by editing the grub.lst), I get the message that the system cannot find the kernel.
    Where am I going wrong?

    title SliTaz GNU/Linux 3.0 (Kernel 2.6.30.6-slitaz)
    root(hd1,0)
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.30.6-slitaz root=/dev/sdb1 vga=normal rootdelay=10

I think an sdb1 normally would correspond to these settings but I have not done exactly what you are trying.

And what would be the lines to add for grub2?

    root@slitaz: grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
