Slitaz 3.0 Art Contest
  • sporkspork November 2009
    Slitaz 3.0 is coming soon, and there needs to be art for its background!
    Everybody can post links here, through a file-sharing service or the Slitaz Community ( http://community.slitaz.org/image )

    Loose guidelines:

    * Resolution should be 1024x768. I'm going to try to put together a script to crop/unstrech the image for widescreens...

    * Try not to let your work take a lot of disk space. Tip: If your image has a lot of plain background or simple designs, PNG is a good format for that. For pictures or complex images, JPEG can save that in a smaller file than PNG can. However, PNG is a free format, so it would be preferred.

    * Remember that it has to be your work, or check the copyright licensing to make sure it is redistributable.

    * Try to use the slitaz colors ( http://slitaz.org/en/artwork/ )

    Contributors, please verify this -- I'm basing this off of what I remember about the 2.0 art contest, so let me know what's wrong!

    I can't seem to be able to post any images in the Slitaz Community Site, so I'm linking to the image in my Dropbox Account:

    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/758367/slitaz-3-1024x768.png

    It's something simple, and the background can be changed to something other than white (I'll provide an xcf soon)

    Sorry I haven't been around in a while....

    Here is my second entry (transparent):

    Also, the xcf to my first entry is provided as well:

    I've thrown together "Stencil" and it has three variations;

    - seal of approval: http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/8214/wpstencil1024.png
    - three: http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/9765/wpstencilthree.png
    - 3: http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/8061/wpstencil31024.png

    Feedback welcome!

    Contact me if anyone wants the Inkscape SVGs, their CC-licensed :)

    The "Three" is great, the comic-like look is great and the litteral "three" is more original than the numerical one.
  • panksopankso January 2010
    @seawolf

    I like the "3", great job!

    Can we have the SVG file or one with #222222 background
  • seawolfseawolf January 2010
    Thanks @pankso & @babaorum :)

    I've done a grey #222 one, both with a light grey spider and a red (#6c0023) one. The darker spider doesn't have the same impact IMHO. I'll find a decent place for the SVGs since I don't have any personal webspace. I wanna find a open-source artwork type website for them ideally.

    Grey-Red: http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/1148/wpstencil3greyred1024.png

    I like your stencil works, seawolf!

    What about making one with a transparent background? Maybe you could make a "one size fits most" type background, so users can change the desktop style easily.

    Also: community.slitaz.org seems to accept images now, I just posted mine there.

    Hi Seawolf,
    About the two last (grey and grey-red): both spider colors are not ideally according to the background *and* the orange of the caption ("Slitaz 3").
    Can I suggest two other possibilities for the color of the spider:

    1) no color: transparency
    2) dark orange

    (always prefering the litteral "three" ;-] )

    Thanks for the feedback guys, appreciate it.

    I've blogged over at Community again with the new versions. I've done a transparent one, both with and without the bumpy effect, again both grey & red spider. Enjoy.

    They're still at imageshack for now, I want somewhere that will hold the SVGs and a rendered PNG. Probs will end up with dA as my fedora stuff should still be there, too. I'll put up a zip of it all, I think, and also the best one (when decided).

    The orange outline *is* the standard orange colour (#DF8F06). I've used it because either of the greys would look rubbish, it wouldn't stand out. I think the orange-grey contrast looks quite good...

    Sorry I haven't been here in a while...

    Here is another entry - but let me know if I did any of the translations wrong. There is a version without the multi-lingual text, though.

    And the no-text version:

    BTW: When does the contest close? Mid-March?

    @shluters

    I like the new take on the spider. Do you happen to have those in a bigger size?

    I am a newbie who does not like backgound designs of any kind, just plain color - something neutral. and non-distracting like pool room green or navy blue. Is there a way to get it without leaving the GUI and descending into complex acronyms, file structures, and other arcane incantations beloved by the true Linux cognoscenti? I haven't found out how to do it.

    choose from the menu. settings > set wallpaper > deselect the wallpaper and choose color. pmanfm is managing wallpapers in slitaz by default.
