Floppy Installation
  • SliFreeSliFree November 2010
Trying to install SliTaz 3.0 via 22 floppy images but I get stuck. Around diskette 5 it got weird. Can someone do a walk-thru on it? Preferably with screenshots? Need to install it on an old machine from 98 for granny.

You need at least 96MB of RAM to go on, see http://mirror.slitaz.org/floppies/
You have boot the base flavor. You can log in as tux or root.
Now you may need to get a slitaz-xxx.iso to install it on hd.
If you have only floppies, you copy it with:

    # split -b 1440k < slitaz-xxx.iso
    # dd if=xaa of=/dev/fd0
    # dd if=xab of=/dev/fd0
    ...

    # dd if=/dev/fd0 of=xaa
    # dd if=/dev/fd0 of=xab
    ...
    # cat x* > slitaz-xxx.iso

I realized the issue was from a corrupted file because floppies are very crappy. Installation should be smooth tomorrow then. I think this'll be a multiple day thing though. I don't have a floppy drive so I have to go to school, burn floppies, test them, bring them to grannies house, then do the next set of diskettes.

Unfortunaly there no md5 check for the first five floppy...
For the other ones md5 is checked.
