Screensaver
  • CabalenCabalen October 2010
I've recently installed Slitaz, and i'm trying out its different features. One thing I can't seem to figure out is how to setup my screensaver. I can't seem to find it in either Preferences or System Tools menu. I need help, pls. Thank you

    Hi @Cabalen --

I don't think a screensaver is installed by default other than the montior power-saving, so I converted the Debian packages of XScreenSaver v5.10-7 for this purpose. You can download them from my DropBox:

    · XScreenSaver: http://db.tt/j5NVz7G
    · Data: http://db.tt/eca55RO
    · Data extras: http://db.tt/qZQEagp
    · GL savers: http://db.tt/lxKhjC7
    · GL extras: http://db.tt/O3t1h3R

To have it with each session, add xscreensaver to Menu > Preferences > Auto Started Applications > Add.

    HIH.

    Hello @seawolf

Thanks for sharing this info. I will definitely try your suggestion. But be warned-i might have some follow-up questions if I get stuck!

I would really need to install a screensaver with lock (kidz)
Thanks Seawolf for your packages, I managed to install it (was difficult for me because I am a beginner)
but my issue is that when screensaver is active, no way i can get out anymore. screen shows windows with login text but systematically "authentification failed" is written and there is nowhere I can enter new login or password.
I installed on my HD the last nov cooking.

    can anybody help ?
    thanks in advance

i save the files to a cd lol

    Hi @JasonBC --

If you downloaded the packages i posted, they are TazPkgs converted from Debian.
I've also made a .tar.gz file so the filenames are correct:
    http://db.tt/bKZSCVf (xscreensaver.tar.gz)

Providing you need no other dependencies, you can browse to your CD in the file manager and press F4 to get a terminal. Once there, switch to the super-user account (ak.a.a. root) with `su` (the default password being `root`) and issue the following commands to install the packages:

    tazpkg install xscreensaver-(whatever).tazpkg

Once they're installed and the deps satisfied, you can add the xscreensaver daemon  (background program) to the AutoStarted Applications so that it will activate while you're logged in.

    HIH.

ok , just tried .. and get an error message..

    su:unknown id: tazpkg
  • Trixar_zaTrixar_za December 2010
because you typed su tazpkg. Su is not like sudo and you can't use it as such. So do the following:
    Type su <enter/return key>
Enter your root password <enter/return key>
Then you type tazpkg install whatever.tazpkg
