Softmaker Office -> Forget OpenOffice ;p
  • moulefritemoulefrite April 2010
    Hi

After having try wine for too long, a reader advice me to
test Softmaker.. and it worth's it ! (Thx for him)

You could open and save in odt,rtf and doc, docx, xls so better than OpenOffice does
and it's weight is far more lighter !

To have it portable (so usefull when you use Slitaz in Ram),
    do this in root session

    1'install permanently libcups.so.2

    2'Download this
    http://www.softmaker.net/down/softmaker-office-2010-trial.tgz

    3'Extract it

    4'Execute the installsmoffice

---------- The Trial version is now installed------

5'Launch TextMaker,PlanMaker, Presentation Maker and configure as u wish

6'Cut-Past your usr/share/office2010trial on a device or usb

7'Cut-Past the .Softmaker and .softmaker from your /root into /office2010trial

8' Create 2 links (permanent if slitaz hard install, or created at each boot time
    if written in /etc/init.d/local.sh )

    ln -s /media/..your usb mounted on../office2010trial/.softmaker/ /root/
    ln -s /media/..your usb monted on../office2010trial/SoftMaker/ /root/

9' Of course these 2 links need that your usb has been mounted before

    mount -t ext3 /dev/sd*1 /media/..your usb mounted on../

10' In your office2010trial folder u can stripped it of some useless language, fonts ..
and bring the folder to a middle 100mb size

    --------- That's it !! ------

But it's a trial version, and there's a little message at each lauch
never test if the 30 day laps really expire ... ? .. We will see

    GIVe ME your feed-backs !!

thanks for sharing this. I will try this with a download of Softmaker Office from last year. back then they issued a free download for last year's (2008?) version. I liked it. lighter than open office, but unlike abiword, it was able to have proper german " " « » . 99 QUOTE 66 signs.. abiword (linux version) seems to be unable to behave typographicaly correct. but softmaker office did the job (when I used it on crunchbang linux)
