    what could be the prob?

Wireless seems to be a bit tricky. I tried using the built in utility, but it can install the driver I needed for whatever reason. Too bad though, if the wireless worked, I would install this on 10 PCs in a heart beat.

@bolle: what card do you have. You can use the link posted in my above post.

@ubuntu: please tell what card you have. I doubt we miss modules for any wireless card now. Wireless support should be as good as in ubuntu. If you do have a non-working card, please let us know. We will get the hardware drivers.

Install linux-wireless for your version of SliTaz it has the ipw2200 module.

    Download ipw2200-firmware-3.0-9.0.1.noarch.rpm from
    http://dl.atrpms.net/sl5-i386/atrpms/stable/

Open xterm and navigate to the same directory as the rpm file you downloaded

    type
    rpm2cpio ipw2200-firmware-3.0-9.0.1.noarch.rpm | cpio -id
    enter

You have a lib and usr folder extracted from the rpm.

Become root in the terminal su , the password is root

    type
    cp lib/firmware/ipw2200* /lib/firmware
    enter

    type
    subox wifibox
    enter

Drivers tab,Module:ipw2200,click Load button Lsmod button verify ipw2200 module is loaded Ignore firmware: Install, you did it above.
List files button should show the 3 firmware bin files you installed.
Go to the Networks tab click refresh button to see accesspoint and connect.

    Accesspoints not listed then try

    ifconfig

See your wireless adapter wlan0 ?

    iwlist scanning

@bolle: seems like you have some confusion when you read the wiki: http://community.slitaz.org/node/54

Now, I have improved the wiki slightly and inlcuded ipw2200 example. Read the wiki again, hope its clear and everything works for you.

Just use wifibox -> drivers -tab -> firmware (select module and install)
(EDIT: OOPs just realize there is no ipw2200 in the selection list in wifibox. This is a bug. We will correct this. Sorry :-). so just do it on terminal if you don't find it too)

    OR

get-ipw2200-firmware script automatically gets the firmware as described in cavalier911 post. So, just type this on terminal as root. Everything should be done for you.

  • jozeejozee December 2009
I have filed the bug: http://labs.slitaz.org/issues/show/206

@bolle: can you please confirm if you don't see ipw2200 on your wifi box too?
  • jozeejozee December 2009
Ok, sorry its not a bug , its a feature:-). I have updated and closed this bug report http://labs.slitaz.org/issues/show/206

You should be able to see ipw2200-firmware in the wifi box selection list if its not installed already on your computer.

@bolle: can you install "sakura" terminal and then do copy paste of the output that you are getting after running the script.

Also, can you post the output of the following commands:

    lsmod
    dmesg | tail
  • bollebolle December 2009
there was no sakura in the package manager..

and how am i supposed to post all of that stuff?
  • bollebolle December 2009
    and when i did dmesg
    it said

    ipw2200 : unable to load firmware: -2

    o.0
  • bollebolle December 2009
i think i may just try and find another distro..
  • bollebolle December 2009
    please someone help.
  • babaorumbabaorum December 2009
Here are the packages for sakura (stable=2.0 *AND* cooking):

You may have hacked the package manager configuration files, because the native packages mirrors do contain sakura

    ahhh
    so complicated :(

i wish it was as easy as like ubuntu.

not even that, even in arch linux, i just needed to type something into a terminal once, and it was done.
