usb failure
  • LuiginoLuigino October 2010
    Hi,
I installed yesterday the last Slitaz version on the HD of my vintage PC Omnibook Xe2, PII 366MHz, 256MB ram, HD 20 GB, PCMCIA to triple USB card, no ethernet.
My concern is that USB devices (both usb store stick and Huawei E156G USB internet key) are not recognized at all.
It seems that rules in /etc/udev don't foresee usb devices. Isn't it? How can I connect to internet?

    PCMCIA to triple USB card
    is this device recognized?
may you post the output of lspci, lsusb and lsmod with all of the devices connected?
  • LuiginoLuigino October 2010
    Hi Ernia
lsusb is not present in my installation:
#find / -depth -name lsusb* command gives a "not found" message.
I can't say nothing about lspci and lsmod until I'll go home.

    root@sl3:/home/fabio# tazpkg search-pkgname lsusb

Search result for file : lsusb
    ================================================================================
    usbutils
    zsh

    ================================================================================
    2 pkg(s) found with file : lsusb
    so you need to
     tazpkg get-install usbutils
to have the lsusb command installed

    See if pcmciautils is installed:
    tazpkg search pcmciautils

    If not:
    tazpkg get-install pcmciautils
  • LuiginoLuigino October 2010
Pcmciautils was just installed while usbutils has been installed with tazpkg.
Now my USB storage is correctly detected and mounted.
USB internet key is correctly detected: this is shown by lsusb command.
Now I would connect to the internet, but how?

    Install these:
    tazpkg get-install wvdial

    tazpkg get-install linux-dialup

    Try Automatic Installation first:

just a little note: the fact that you see your USB internet key does not prove that it is correctly detected (correct module loaded) but just that the kernel sees the device.
if Mojo's suggestion does not work (it should work) check if you have a /dev/ttyACM0 or /dev/ttyUSB0 file.
first time i connected with my nokia n78 as a modem i needed to manually
    modprobe cdc_acm
and then put cdc_acm in /etc/rcS.onf in the LOAD_MODULES row to have it automatically loaded at startup.
