When I boot my slitaz (base distro with some added packages), the process stop at "Starting Hardware Abstration Layer: HAL..." Then I can do a ctrl-c to stop the current execution and I get the login prompt.
I tried to not start hald during boot and that fixed the problem.
So I have 2 questions : Is there a mean to have more messages at boot time to debug it ? What's the purpose of HAL ?
"As of 2009, distributions such as Ubuntu,[4] Debian,[5] and Fedora,[6] and projects such as GNOME and X.org are in the process of deprecating HAL as it has "become a large monolithic unmaintainable mess".[4] It is in the process of being merged into udev "
I'm with kultex - HAL seems to make more of a mess of things than it fixes. My one DVD device won't mount with HAL, but mounts fine with the mount command. HAL doesn't see empty, writeable CD's when I insert them into the writer - it also doesn't detect the writer properly either.
