how can I get a console through the serial port?

    I have a main board with vortex86dx CPU,no vga,just have serial port.
    how can i get a console through the serial port?

    i tried to add the following line in inittab ,but i got nothing in the serial port
    T0::respawn:/sbin/getty -L ttyS0 115200 vt100

    please help !

    I am in the same exact situation, using roboard as well. Has this been resolved? Please let me know.

    I'm afraid you'll have to build a custom kernel:

    in current .config, serial console is not supported:
    # CONFIG_SERIAL_8250_CONSOLE is not set

    if you say Y here, it will be possible to use a serial port as the
    system console (the system console is the device which receives all
    kernel messages and warnings and which allows logins in single user
    mode). This could be useful if some terminal or printer is connected
    to that serial port.
