lovin slitaz, couple questions...

hi everyone, thanks for this wonderful distro. I have been using it on my desktop for
a couple weeks now. started with just the livecd then made a usb stick install and have
comfortably been using that except for a couple questions i have:

1)i am using the cooking version and i enter us at boot, it loads the english keyboard and boots
fine. If i don't enter anything at boot and let it boot automatically, then it loads to a login screen (tux)
but no password seems to work, even not having a password. how can i change the setttings file on the usb stick
to include this us designation automatically? how can i change the settings to have it boot fast? I read on here how to do it but i can't find the file in question, any help for a newbie?

gosh having brain fart, can't think of my other questions but if i could get some help with this one, that would rock.

seriously i've tried alot of linux distros but i love the simplicity and pure speed of slitaz...
    thanks

Does the message, "unable to execute login command" appear very quickly, perchance?

    yes it does actually.

also do you know what file to edit to make the changes i want in the first post?

This may be a problem copying the .Xsession, .xinit etc. files from /etc/skel to /home/user. This has been seen before:

Do any of these help? Hopefully you can copy the files by logging in as root, then including them with the new filesystem on your USB media.
