Hi, Congratulations for 3.0 version!! My Asus eeepc 901 with ralink rt2860sta can not connect to my wireless net. I type lsmod and rt2860sta is 1 (it means it is charged) How can I connect? My router has WEP encryption
Hi, tazhw detect-pci --firmware.... Detected PCI devices Kernel Modules Module in use rt2860sta
I think it means ok Waiting for the "bug" solution I use the icon net connection and I find my wireless net. I double clic over it (with WEP key first) and ...nothing! May I need to wait for the bug solution or the problem is different?
@pepe : As long as you can find your wireless net everything is ok. So, restart your machine and see if it auto-connects. I tested with WEP and everything works.
If not, can you manually edit /etc/network.conf to make sure your wifi details are ok and wifi is "yes"
OK but....with wep encryption I can not connect I erase the encryption and....voilá! I am connected and writing this post. Sure Slitaz works in live mode with wireless wep encryption? Waiting for answer Pepe p.s. In version 2.0 I remember I need to install r2860sta driver but in 3.0 it is charged by default and /etc/network.conf is ok
The problem here is that no ones wep is going to work anywhere, its amazing that no one has noticed this yet! There isn't an "arc4" kernel module for the wep crypto. We gotta wait for someone to release a kernel patch that adds this module. Bizarre its not there. I can't imagine its compiled in, and this module being missing exactly describes this behavior. Shucks.
Oh, jeez. So it is compiled in. OK. Scratch that idea. But it really isn't working anyway. Maybe tonight I'll poke around with it again and see what else I can come up with.
google rt2860sta wep many hits with wep not working with that driver
Any idea how to debug why ndiswrapper doesn't work with slitaz-3.0 ? Radio in adapter works, connects and associates to accesspoint but no tcp/ip connectivity.
Tested 3 pci wireless adapters and 2 laptops with builtin wireless, all work with slitaz-2.0 but fail in slitaz-3.0
eeePC 900SD - Slitaz wifi does not work either. My router uses WPA encryption. Anyone can crack WEP, and so, much easier than cracking wpa. I am surprised anyone uses wep anymore - ISPs' model/routers all do WPA now.
This having been said, perhaps the developers might look at what Pu ppeee / Fl uppy is using to connect wirelessly. it is another, although not so small, distro also very much concerned with size and speed. I believe they use pwireless2 now - don't look at P uppy, which these are a derivative of, because wireless in pu ppy is rather inconvenient and you don't want that as an inspiration. (re. spaces: I inserted spaces so these don't erroneously come up in search results, as this space is first and foremost about Slitaz and not other distros).
Install linux-wireless.tazpkg go here: http://doc.slitaz.org/en:guides:wifi-easy scroll down and start here: Detailed Instructions Identifying your hardware (Which wifi card do I have?) Most modules require you download/install firmware before loading the module. If you can't get it to work and want help: Post result of every terminal command listed in guide
glad to find slitaz. mini and runnin smoothly on usb. im using acer aspire 4530 and both my eth and wlan detected perfectly. id already connected to my local router, but somehow i cant ping any website.
