Questions on Huawei E220 at /dev/ttyUSB0
  • ArnljotArnljot April 2010
Downloaded 3.0 a couple days ago and I like what I get. Using opensuse 11.2 64-bit else but have looked for a distro that suites my need. I have a Huawei E220 modem since a couple of years and after kernel > 20 it was easy to use. I have used kppp earlier and tried to go for anything like that i slitaz. Wvdial worked in suse but I found gnome-ppp could be almost the same as kppp. New to the distro it took me a day to get it working and the key to that was to load module option. The rest was just to fill in the phone number *99# and the USB port. It's a simple setup but it works. I have disabled the PIN some time ago. Two things to fix remains:
For user other than root error msg "/dev/ttyUSB0 busy" appear and no connection.
Gnome-ppp says "waiting for prompt" and delays connection by half a minute.
Any suggestions welcomed. Thanks in advance.

It might help to add users to groups dialout and tty in /etc/group.
