Have lost wterm since last update on April, 3rd > xterm: error while loading shared libraries: libXaw8.so.8: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Cannot yet: - open a terminal - update/download/install a package from within the GUI packages tool, which opens and looks fine but something is preventing any package to be updated or installed. Have tried to update the packages as well as installing any terminal available from the packages.
Any advice or help would bemuch appreciated. SliTaz's the fastest OS on my 9yrs old laptop (that I use professionnaly), and the overall best distro since SliTaz devs/community added those 700 new packages last month / SliTaz 3.0
yes sure. Unfortunately ctrl+alt+Fn never worked on this installation (or at least for 1 year or so): - done on the Slim login screen, just change the window manager (openbox > ... > openbox again) - from within the window manager it does nothing
Maybe I could edit /etc/inittab and start in console mode, then begin with a system update.
if you can boot with a live cd mount your slitaz partition and remove slim from the row "RUN_DAEMONS="dbus hald firewall slim vboxdrv"" in /whereyoohavemountedyourslitazpartition/etc/rcS.conf when you reboot you should be in console mode
Since atm I have FAST_BOOT 'on', ---------- RUN_DAEMONS="firewall openssh"
# Fast boot into X by setting the system keymap-locale and starting # the Slim login manager earlier at boot time. If fast X is enabled # then dbus, hald and slim can be removed from RUN_DAEMONS. FAST_BOOT_X="yes" ----------
Sorry for the delay. Since April 8, I've been able to enter virtual terminal and succesfuly run tazpkg recharge && update a few time till yesterday. As well as installing other shell apps (like urxvt). But none of them open, i.e. clicking on xterm/urxvt or launching them from the 'Run' menu will launch nothing, and neither does the process appear even for an instant.
More contextual details: - I run a Slitaz Cooking from October 2008, regularly updated since - tazpkg set-release {3.0,cooking} updates /etc/slitaz-release and shows a number of respectfuly downgrades/upgrades, that I cannot get installed wether i add '--forced' or not - Got some Input/Output on root partition error messages, so I've run e2fsck from another distro that is installed on the same old laptop. e2fsck exited after succesful repair, with no impact on my present issues with Slitaz.
Is there anything I can do or re-installing (latest) SliTaz is gonna be the fastest way to recover a running SliTaz OS?
