udev & hal problems
  • kultexkultex December 2009
    I was trying today to write a cd with burnbox and my external usb dvd-writer - I did not succeed... the only thing that worked, was starting graveman as root.
    I also have often problems with hal unmounting my usb drive.

    All this reminds me on the discussion of the plugdev group -

    http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2004/11/msg00201.html
    http://lists.slackbuilds.org/pipermail/slackbuilds-users/2007-May/001631.html

    the german gentoo wiki says, you have to be member of plugdev, to use hal as user http://de.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/HAL
    and all other linx I use, there is a plugdev groop

    it is just a thought... I am just a user.....

    normalerweise schaut das so irgendwie aus:

    <!-- Debian groups policies -->
    <policy group="powerdev">
    <allow send_interface="org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.SystemPowerManagement"/>
    <allow send_interface="org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.LaptopPanel"/>
    </policy>
    <policy group="plugdev">
    <allow send_interface="org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume"/>
    <allow send_interface="org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume.Crypto"/>
    </policy>

    in slitaz schauts so aus:

    <!-- Only root or user haldaemon can own the HAL service -->
    <policy user="haldaemon">
    <allow own="org.freedesktop.Hal"/>
    </policy>
    <policy user="root">
    <allow own="org.freedesktop.Hal"/>
    </policy>

    also hier müsste man der Gruppe haldaemon tux einfügen:

    haldaemon:x:26:tux

    und sollte der Eintrag in der hal.conf nicht so lauten:

    <!-- Only root or user haldaemon can own the HAL service -->
    <policy group="haldaemon">
    <allow own="org.freedesktop.Hal"/>
    </policy>
    <policy user="root">
    <allow own="org.freedesktop.Hal"/>
    </policy>

    sorry this was nonsense - this <policy user="haldaemon"> is also in all other configs.
    Then there is everywhere the <policy context="default">, as it is in slitaz. But all the configs, i have checked now - on the end there is:

    <!-- Allow members of 'plugdev' group to mount volumes -->
    <policy group="plugdev">
    <allow send_interface="org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume"/>
    <allow send_interface="org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume.Crypto"/>
    </policy>

    I will try tomorrow, if this makes any difference...

    Hi,

    I solved this problem long time back. My wife uses burnbox quite often. It works fine for her.

    I am quite sleepy right now. Will probably help you out tomorrow:

    For now, look on these posts: http://labs.slitaz.org/issues/show/117 and
    http://labs.slitaz.org/issues/show/134

    I need no help in this, but I need help somewhere else - how do I restart hal?? slitaz drives me sometimes cracy

    root@slitaz:/home/tux# /etc/init.d/hal restart
    sh: /etc/init.d/hal: not found
    root@slitaz:/home/tux# /etc/rc.d/hal start
    sh: /etc/rc.d/hal: not found
    root@slitaz:/home/tux# /etc/init.d/daemon -hal restart
    sh: /etc/init.d/daemon: not found
    root@slitaz:/home/tux# /etc/init.d/daemon-hal restart
    sh: /etc/init.d/daemon-hal: not found
    root@slitaz:/home/tux# /etc/init.d/daemon-hal stop
    sh: /etc/init.d/daemon-hal: not found
    root@slitaz:/home/tux# /etc/init.d/daemon-hald stop
    sh: /etc/init.d/daemon-hald: not found
    root@slitaz:/home/tux# /etc/init.d/daemon-name start
    sh: /etc/init.d/daemon-name: not found
    root@slitaz:/home/tux# /etc/init.d/daemon -hald start
    sh: /etc/init.d/daemon: not found
    root@slitaz:/home/tux#

    nothing works.... its stupid, to save the rootgz all the time and then reboot

    You should look in folder /etc/init.d

    /etc/init.d/hald start
    </code
  • kultexkultex December 2009
    sorry, I should have done this ...

    the cdrom problem was easy, but why it is not on the iso, when you solved it long time back?

    my mainproblem was, why the huawei E220 is not switching

    The only thing, what is necessary for this, should be hal-info.tazpkg and linux-modem.tazpkg

    but it does not - I tried thousand things....
