Wireless yet again
  • AJK101AJK101 November 2010
Initially, my wireless worked perfectly, but after saving fs once, whenever i input :
    " iwconfig wlan0 essid "NAME"
iwconfig wlan0 mode managed key "KEY"
    uhcpc -i wlan0 "

the only response i get is :
    "Sending discover..." repetitively.

Just a note, the gui shows me the one i want to connect to, but when i double click, and input password, nothing happens.
Could you help? This always used to work before.

And as always thank you for all your help.

Are you connecting to an wpa secured network ?

    If so, you need wpa_supplicant.

I use wep, and even though, i doubt that it is some thing i need to download, because as i said, it used to work before, and it shouldn't have if it had been such a problem.

first: did you load the wifi module permanent? - I think you did, but just for security.

    second: check the output of
    iwlist wlan0 scan
and check the /etc/network.conf, if evrything is ok - see: http://doc.slitaz.org/en:guides:wifi-easy

if you still have problems, perhaps it better to switch to wicd - see

    http://doc.slitaz.org/en:guides:wicd

I had something similar, and no change in the files and any command line could help. What finally solved it was simply to open the Wireless manager and go to the Configuration tab and re-issue the appropriate values.
Of course, it is only my experience, but I hope it could help.

    Hello Stilaz Community,

I am a new user of this distro. Really surprised me. Congratulations to Stilaz people.

I have one problem with wireless, which works on Ubuntu but not in Stilaz. Actually its is recognized as wlan0 and in Wireless App I can see several networks to connect to, but nothing happens after doing a click. Ask for Wep Key and then only "refresh" the list of networks, but no connection at all.

    Some info that could help:
02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR5001 Wireless Network Adapter (rev 01)

    dds@dds-laptop:~$ lsmod | grep ath
    ath5k 121792 0
    mac80211 205146 1 ath5k
    ath 7611 1 ath5k
    cfg80211 126517 3 ath5k,mac80211,ath
    led_class 2864 2 ath5k,sdhci

Stilaz load this module on boot up but can not connect.

I have read al docs about wifi in Stilaz but cant get it to work.

    Thanks!

    feddds.

hey feddds, i had the exact same problem, as mentioned above, and thanks for answering everyone, and what worked for me was kultex' comment on using wicd, that fixed everything somehow, thanks a lot.
