I have downloaded the cooked, and the stable version, of SliTaz and installed each one on a usb-drive. It doesnt matter wich one of the versions I boot from, when I've logged in as "tux" and then type "startx" the screen says:
"The 'tazx' application helps you to configure your X session."
From here I can choose: xterm 800x600x16 xorg Install Xorg text Disable X autostart quit Quitter
If I choose "xterm" I get the following message:
/usr/bin/tazx: line 441: Xvesa: not found xterm Xt error: Can't open display: :0.0
If I choose "xorg" I only get the option "quit Quitter". When I choose to quit I get the message: /usr/bin/startx: exec: line 11: /home/tux/.xsession: not found
If I log in as root and type "startx" this shows up:
Fatal server error: Unrecognized option: -shadow DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS=unix:abstract=/tmp/dbus.hAVJE2s.......etc. DBUS_SESSION_BUS_PID=2032 Openbox-Message: Failed to open the display from the DISPLAY environment variable. root@slitaz:/# (lxpanel:1995): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :0.0
If I run tazx as root and then choose xterm 800x600x16 this is what I get:
/usr/bin/tazx: line 441: Xvesa: not found xterm Xt error: Can't open display: %s
I am using a Dell Studio 1537 laptop with a ATI Radeon HD 3400 graphic card running Windows 7. The goal is to install SliTaz on my harddrive so I can dual boot.
What am I doing wrong? I thought I could just boot from the usb-drive and then install it on my harddrive.. but as I said.. I'm a complete n00b at this.
I'm such an ass!! Sorry for posting this as I soon after found a solution to the problem!!
Thanks to tikbalang who provided with the link to the xvesa-version of SliTaz under the following discussion: "installing on pentium II, very old (1997)"
