slitaz features? tazlito, tazusb
  • 4evernewb4evernewb July 2010
    Hi,

I'm thinking about using tazlito or tazusb to make a modified distro for use by activists in third world countries. I'm looking for comments about what slitaz can do well and what will need some work. Especially how to approach the parts that need work. I know a lot of this I will need to pay someone to do because it is mostly over my head. Let me know what you think would be a fair price for the scripts. Here is the list I'm working with . . .

    1) Modest pc requirements: system and most apps can run on 512mb ram, system itself needs 256 or less

    2) Excellent hardware support, or ability to easily add excellent hardware support by downloading some packages (please suggest which ones)

    3) Packages- able to use packages from other distros (RPM and/or APT)

    Startup options and/or scripts and/or config file to . . .

    5) Choose running sterile or saving changes

    6) Choose a partition/file for a temporary (or permanent) swap file, auto check for a file that already exists

    7) encrypted swap

    8) Run in "flash friendly" mode, distributing writes across the flash.

    9) make a script so there is a switch at startup to look for and decrypt a truecrypt volume that would contain the home directory. - This is also so the user can use truecrypt to access files from windows *cringe*

9b) home directory, user added packages and scripts would not be loaded into ram.

    10) ability to make a seperate file or in some way select packages to NOT be loaded into ram.

    10) As above but includes any packages and startup scripts added by the user, the base system would be in the form of an iso saved to usb (I already have the boot manager for booting an ISO that is on a USB). The nice part about this is that it enables me to

    11) make a script that does a quick hash check on the system image and usb files, to make sure they have not been tampered with.

    12) There is really a need for an onscreen keyboard that randomizes the keys with every keypress (to combat hardware and bios keyloggers. I seem to remember a bootmanager or add-on to a boot manager that did this but I can't find it. If you happen to know of it please let me know. There was also a "game" that resembled mario but you jumped on letters to input keystrokes.

    13) suggestions?
