mirror.slitaz.org works in browser but can't tazpkg from command line

Hello SliTazians, I have a strange problem... I can browse the web normally, however, many websites are un-pingable from the terminal, and I cannot use tazpkg (or the GUI package manager).

Sometimes I get the error "wget: server returned error: HTTP/1.1 416 Requested Range Not Satisfiable" but usually I just get the error "wget: bad address 'mirror.slitaz.org'

Any theories?

I install Slitaz 2.0 on hdd. With terminal unpack rootfs.gz
cd rootfs

modifyng some file

rebuilding rootfs.gz, try with:
find . -print | cpio -o -H newc | lzma e -si -so > ../rootfs.gz

try first
and

try second

# find . -print | cpio -o -H newc | gzip -9 > ../rootfs.gz

copy rootf.gz in to folder boot LiveCD

Rebuilding iso LiveCD.Lanching with VirtualBox:
appears error; don' t opening file tty 5, tty6.

where is the error?

Slitaz in AMD

I have been using Slitaz for a while now without any problems , however when I started testing with a new motherboard with AMD 2X-Athlon and the new firefox.iso , the wireless will not be detected, so I went back to the iso I am currently using and replaced the bzImage, and the wireless does not work. I don know if there was a change in compiling the kernel or what.

Has anybody have the same problem?

I know there are some issues with AMD and Intel processors, some programms will will not work as expected.

hello, the worries of not throwing an old Compaq nx9005, I installed slitaz above. I met many problems. I'm installing a usb wifi adapter OvisLink Evo w542usb. I downloaded the linux drivers, and tried to install ... without success. I then tried the ndiswrapper solution and there is some better. The driver is installed, the hardware is detected, the link is established to wlan0 by ndiswrapper. But iwconfig persists and signs: wlan0 no such a device. So I can not go further. Also when I reboot, the key disappears every time. I must removes and delivers it to be seen again in lsusb.

Can anyone help me, if not what adapter do i have to buy?

I have been trying the past couple of days to run # tazpkg upgrade. All I received was a "connection refused" from the server. Today, I managed to connect via the "package manager shell". Everything went OK for the first couple of items to be upgraded, but the Firefox upgrade has stalled after 2 % downloaded. Tazpkg seems to be caught in some sort of loop and the processor seems to be maxing out on my Eee PC. I assume this is a mirror problem? What should I do? I would like to avoid damage to the system.

I am using SliTaz 2.

Segmentation fault with flash plugin

I installed flash plugin in Slitaz 2.0 stable. It works well but when I try to enlarge a flash video, firefox crashes with the "Segmentation fault" message.
Someone has the same issue or a solution?

slitaz-base hangs during boot

Hi

I'm trying to install slitaz-base on an old laptop I have. It is a NEC
Versa 4050h with 40MB ram and (I think) 90MHz processor.

It doesn't have a CD drive or usb ports, so I pulled the hard disk out
and stuck it in my desktop (which has a CD drive) and installed
slitaz-base. The install was successful and slitaz boots fine using
the laptop hard disk in the desktop.

However when I put the hard disk back in the laptop it won't boot. I
select slitaz in grub and it begins to boot but hangs at


root (hd0,0)
Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.25.5-slitaz root=/dev/hda1
[linux-bzImage, setup=0x2800, size=0x1e5c4c]

I've tried (separately) adding acpi=off and acpi=noirq to my kernel line but it doesn't change anything.

I've successfully used Damn Small Linux on this laptop in the past so
I'm thinking it should be possible to get slitaz to boot.

Any ideas what might be causing the problem and what I could do about it?

I tried all the resolution options on the tazx configurator and removed /root/.xsession and i still cant go into the X enviroment. Anyone have any idea or sugestion of something i can try?
I am thinking in installing nvidia drivers and recompiling kernel, but seems too much work. I just wanna a X enviroment, with any resolution...

Editing LXPanel menu

I would like, on certain logins, the main LXPanel "Start" menu to not show certain installed programmes. Adding the string NoDisplay=true to the .desktop files works within /usr/share/applications, but I've been told I can copy those files to ~/.local/share/applications and have the NoDisplay=true option be only for a specific user. This hasn't worked, though. Any suggestions?

Also: The "spider" icon is in /usr/share/pixmaps (named slitaz-menu.png). Just copy your image into that directory and name it slitaz-menu.png (it will overwrite the slitaz icon and wil change everyone's Menu icon, so beware). But be careful - if you upgrade slitaz-configs, your custom icon will be overwritten by the default one!

where is the problem?

1- The GNU make

2- The GNU compiler

3- Build plus Header files for the linux kernel 2.6.30.6-slitaz

For Mandriva, I know the command is "urpmi kernel-desktop586-devel-latest"

What's the equivalent command in SliTaz?

Slitaz in VIA EPIA SP 8000

Hi,
I'm trying to run Slitaz in a VIA EPIA SP 8000.
My problem is that video don't run smooth. In puppy distro I haven't that problem, but I hate that distro.
If in puppy I run xvesa, video also don't run smothly. So the problem is xvesa or drivers. Is there anyone who use a VIA EPIA SP 8000?

I will try xorg in slitaz cooking version and post comments after.

On a fresh install of SliTaz cooking... I can browse mirror.slitaz.org in Firefox, but I can't connect using tazpkg on the command line (or GUI package manager). I get:

On a recent CentOS install (same network) I had similar problems with 'yum'; I solved it by disabling ipv6 support. Any thoughts how to change this setting in SliTaz?

nvidia drivers - support for Geforce 4 & 5 [package request]

Since slitaz is such a great distribution for older systems, I think it would be great to provide packages for nvidia's older video cards. Unfortunately slitaz's nvidia drivers (190.42) are only good for GeForce 6 cards and newer. It would be great if the following drivers would be added:
173.14.22 GeForce 5 series
96.43.14 GeForce 4 series

Hey in case you are wondering yes im i windows user and now for my question

When i use the USB drive at my house i have all of my files saved on my usb device (i thought) then i take my usbdevice to school and when i run it on the school computers all my settings are gone (weird i know)
but when i come home and run slitaz from my laptop all my settings restore is there i certan file that i need to add to the backup file and what do i need to type i already added [slitaz home=usb] after the big command well i have

display isolinux.msg

append initrd=/boot/rootfs.gz rw root=/dev/null vga=normal autologin slitaz home=usb

include common.cfg

is this the correct thing i need to have to allow me to use my usb at school.

this is not as important as the wireless problem that i am still trying to fix i had to download the files from my windows laptop and then i will figure out what to do from there

PS this is the second best os that i have ever used but it is in my top 5 for portable os second to windows

Hello, everyone!

I am trying -- really trying -- to make the transition from Windows to Linux. I have a few questions, and I'll try to isolate them into separate discussions.

One problem that I have been having with SliTaz (and also with Tiny Core Linux, Puppy Linux, and Ubuntu) is that sometimes my browser window magically disappears. I think it is the "Out of Memory" problem and that Linux is completely out of memory and shuts down the browser in order to free some memory. I am not certain that that is the cause, but I think it is it. It commonly happens if I am browsing a complex webpage like Yahoo. It happens with many different versions of Linux. And it happens whether I boot from a LiveCD or install Linux to a hard drive.

My computer has 384MB of RAM. Puppy Linux gives me a display of available RAM, and it is nearly always above 150MB free, and usually in the range of 180MB free.

I have a new motherboard ready to install, and it has 4GB of DDR3 RAM and a quad core processor. Hopefully that will avoid the problem, but I would kind of like to fix the problem first. I would like to give this old motherboard/CPU/RAM to my son, and set up a SliTaz installation for him, if I can fix this frustrating problem.

Does anyone have any ideas what I should do, or do you need more information? Thanks.

hi i downloaded onto the cd and restarted with the cd in and when i got into the slitaz program i ran the slitaz installer and now i cant start my laptop without the cd and when the cd is in it start but only starts and goes to the slitaz thing. how do i delete it and get my computer to start normal again?? please somebody help!!!!!

I'm trying to build a slitaz package for the nvidia 96.43.14 driver which is necessary for my older mx440 card. Looking at the receipt for the nvidia 190.42 driver, the first step of this process, as I understand it, is building the kernel. I closely followed the various instructions on the site and installed the following packages on a fresh install of slitaz, fully updated:

slitaz-toolchain
ncurses-dev
perl
mercurial
git (for aufs)
zlib-dev (necessary or build process dies quickly)

hg clone http://hg.slitaz.org/wok/ /home/slitaz/wok

Before trying my receipt for the new nvidia driver, I decided to test the kernel build process. So:

tazwok cook linux

After after about 1 1/2 hours of smooth sailing I get this message:

Hard Disk Installation Problem.

I burnt Slitz - Cooking ISO on CD and booted from Live CD. However, when I try to install in Hard Disk , it says rootfs.gz is not found. However, on my physical examination of CD, I found rootfs.gz file in Live CD. As instructed in your help section, I tried to mount CD Drive. However, mounting is not possible. Is it require Driver software for CD/DVD writer, in order to access CD Drive. Kindly let me know how to install Slitz -cooking in my Hard Disk. I refereed to your section, how to install in Hard Disk. Accordingly I tried to mount CD Drive and fails to mount the CD cum DVD writer. you may please note I was able to install Puppy Linux from same Drive. I am looking forward your simple to understand solution for this problem as I would like to install Slitaz in my Computer.
