[SOLVED] adding new user

When I add a new user after installing Slitaz to disk and then try to login as that user, an error message flashes and I am bounced back to the login screen. The message is too fast to catch, but it does say something about login failure.

Trying to solve a question on the german forum, I found that creating a fat32 SliTaz usb-stick with the new Tazusb Liveusb Tool ends up with "Failed to execute login command" booting from the stick. Perhaps it was always like this, but older tazusb did not add home=uuid to syslinux.cfg.
As soon as I add a seperate etx3 home partition, evrything works normal.

the error in slim.log direct after first boot (no tux home folder):

Unable to boot with a Pionneer DVR-111D on system

Hi,

If I try to boot from another system which uses a Pionner DVR-111D, I received several errors on boot
cmd 0x5a timed out
hde: lost interrupt
cmd 0x3 timed out
hde: request sense failure : status=0x51
hde: request sense failure : error=0x40
hde: possibly failed opcode : 0xa0
then boot stop

I have the problem booting from this DVD drive or from another dvd drive : If the DVR-111D is present, boot fails....

tried with irqpoll without success...

any hint ?

samba first complained about some missing librarys which I found and symlinked to,then like smbclient the following text scrolls down with some different text types

This was tried on hard drive installs using the slitaz installer with SliTaz GNU/Linux 2.0 and SliTaz GNU/Linux cooking-20091104 after a tazpkg recharge/upgrade.

I have been experiencing same problem for long time. Each release, i face the same dissapointment: There is no Turkish Q keyboard support out of the box. Although i apply all instruction for adding tr q keymap to the system, system says keyboard layout is TR Q, but it keeps on typing as it was EN US. Any comments?

I need to save some vital information directly on a hd if unfortunately there is a power failure.

After some test, i couldn't do it. The data are no present.

Is there possible to configure slitaz to save directly on hd and not in ram?

I can save persistent data but when the application is currently in use and need to save the data,and a power failure append, the information are gone, when the system reboot.

Hello. New Slitaz user here. I downloaded the latest version of Slitaz (both standard and slitaz-3.0-loram.iso), but the live CD dies after the kernel is loaded, saying not enough memory. I know this computer works, because I previously installed Damn Small Linux on it, but was not happy with the results.

Is there a boot option I am missing? Should I have tried slitaz-3.0-loram-cdrom.iso since my CD rom works?

My final objective is to install the OS to the hard drive. I am really not interested in running the live CD, but it seems you have to run the live CD before installing to the hard drive.

Can't Load Slitaz from USB.

I've been trying to use a USB flash drive to boot Slitaz from a Wyse 3150SE, which has a AMD Geode GX processor 400 MHz, 128 MB of ram and 32 MB of Flash Memory. I have gone into the bios of this computer, and made it so USB will be done first. I am using the slitaz-cooking.iso (14-Mar-2010 17:46 30M) and tazusb.exe to create live USB.. I don't know why, but it take over 5 mins to load through bzImage and rootfs.gz.. then it comes up to this "Switched to NOhz mode on CPU #0"

then after some time it shows this..

Simple Boot Flag at 0x3f set to 0x1
Kernel panic - not syncing : out of memory and no killable processes...

then it has many Call Traces, which I don't feel like posting at the moment..

any idea what I can do??

Hi,

I'm trying to install Slitaz to my computer's hard drive (complete install, not frugal). After completing the install procedure, instaling grub and rebooting, I see that the kernel loads and after the message "Frreing unused kernel memory..." I get several instances of the following messages:

"init: can't log to /dev/tty5
init started: BusyBox V...
init: can't log to /dev/tty5
starting pid 481, tty'': '/etc/init.d/rcS'
init: can't log to /dev/tty5
cannot run '/etc/init.d/rcS': No such file or directory"

And booting gets into this infinite loop

I have tried both the assisted intall though "slitaz-installer" and the manual install, and the error happens both ways.

Can it be because I'm using Slitaz-lowmem flavor image?

Tazwok could not build current Wine

I have changed the Wine reciept to build 1.1.43 and added the needed dependency Bison. But it wont compile, after 5 minutes compiling it fails.

Compiltime error is "ipstats.c: In function ‘AllocateAndGetIpForwardTableFromStack’: " which says nothing to me.

mach64 driver

Xorg-xf86-video-ati doesn't include the mach64 driver. Would it be possible to have it included in the repository perhaps as a separate package? Xorg includes it in 7.4 and 7.5 so it's not unsupported. 7.4 ships version 6.8.0. It would make sense to include it since SliTaz is such a good distro for legacy hardware and this is a pretty common graphics chip on older systems.

Is there a tool to change focus within the subox? When it opens I would like the password field to have the focus and when I start to type I would like the focus to shift to the OK button so that when I'm finished and hit enter it executes. If there isn't a way for a user to change the behavior then how do I make a formal request? I would prefer to work through this modal box without having to use the mouse or hit tab.

Hi,
I've been using the live CD of slitaz-aircrack-ng-20091124.iso and when I open an X-window, it appears in the upper left hand corner of the screen, and stays there. I can't drag it anywhere, and I can't seem to find any combination of mouse clicks and dragging motions that will let me place it somewhere else. When I open subsequent X-windows, they open exactly on top of the previous CLI.

I can work around this problem, but I'd like to make if go away if possible.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

test Softmaker.. and it worth's it ! (Thx for him)

You could open and save in odt,rtf and doc,docx,xls so better than OpenOffice does
and it's weight is far more lighter !

To have it portable (so usefull when you use Slitaz in Ram),
do this in root session

1'install permanently libcups.so.2

2'Download this

I am trying to get floppy image file so I can redirect boot from usb (since my thinkpad 560z has no CD). When I get a new formatted 1.44MB floppy disc, I get an error message the img file is too big (1.4MB) and won't fit. Anyone have a same problem?. I get a same error on 2 different machines, help!.

slitaz 3.0 problem booting from multiboot USB

slitaz 3.0 booted perfectly when alone on a USB key initialised with unetbootin.

I use a large USB key with 10 different Linux distros on it in iso format & its own grub menu in GrubDOS 0.4.4.

I added slitaz 3.0 on it yesterday & modified the boot script which worked for slitaz 2.0 by changing 2.0 to 3.0 :

find --set-root /slitaz-3.0.iso
map --mem /slitaz-3.0.iso (hd32)
map --hook
chainloader (hd32)
boot

I then tried to boot slitaz 3.0 & got this error from Grub :

Error 62: The number of heads must be specified. The “–Heads=0″ option tells map to choose a value (but may be unsuitable for you) ...

After searching on the web for this error, which seems to come from a modification of the MBR, I tried changing line 3 to :

map --mem --head=0 --sectors-per-track=0 /slitaz-3.0.iso (hd32)

& got an error saying there was an unrecognizable device string. Same thing when I tried removing --mem from the line.

Is there anyone wiser than me who understands what is going wrong or how to make it work ?

I'm building a Frozen-Bubble package, having seen it as requested for 4.0 and loving it.
it already works but i need to try to build it in a chroot environment or in a clean install to be sure about DEPENDS and BUILD-DEPENDS, and i must try to slim it down.
i mainly use tazarch to make receipt files.
as far as most of his dependencies are perl-packages should i include .pod and .packlist files or should i delete them from packages, as archlinux does?

Fresh install on USB stick from 3.0 stable iso won't login

Performing a fresh install goes Ok but upon booting a "failed to execute login" error appears and the system momentarily drops back to the command line before presenting a login screen preloaded with "tux". Trying to login with an empty password fails, using "root:root" succeeds. As root changing the tux password to something useful then retrying to login as "tux" with the password produces the same failure.
Anybody got any ideas where to start poking around on this?

Locale error for locale "C" in 3.0

When specifying "boot: en" in order to specify uk keyboard and English lang=C gets passed in the kernel boot line. However during the boot sequence the error "cannot open locale definition file 'C' : No such file or directory" flashes past and can be seen in "/var/log/boot.log", and "/etc/locale.conf" is set to "LANG=C".
However if specifying no language until prompted after booting there is no error and "/etc/locale.conf" is set to "LANG=en_US". Is there a missing locale file?

- open a terminal
- update/download/install a package from within the GUI packages tool, which opens and looks fine but something is preventing any package to be updated or installed. Have tried to update the packages as well as installing any terminal available from the packages.

X session problem after tazpkg upgrade

Hi,
After a tazpkg upgrade and reboot, X session does not start.
The system stays in text mode (but user login works).

I do not know if it is related but when I try to run Xorg, system complains about libcrypto.so.0.9.8 (yes libcrypto package is installed):


root@slitaz:~# Xorg
Xorg: error while loading shared libraries: libcrypto.so.0.9.8: cannot open shared object file: No such file ore directory
root@slitaz:~#

Would anyone give me some hints to help me getting my X session back?
