[Solved] Weird flakey Alsaplayer problem

At first I thought I simply had no sound at all, until I discovered that flash animations with sound in the browser played perfectly well. On investigating I see that Slitaz finds my card just fine (Riptide). Alsamixer behaves normally. Alsaplayer loads mp3s and wav files fine, and acts like it plays them, but no sound comes from my speakers, although flash in Firefox continues to play sounds just fine.

I tried reinstalling the linux-sound package; no change. Then I read on here something about the audio group and permissions, and I fooled around with /etc/group, and this happens to me:

At bootup the /etc/group file has this line:

audio:x:20:tux

I changed it to this:

audio::20:

And suddenly Alsaplayer has sound!! But this is the only chance I get. If I log out and log right back on, the sound is gone. And no amount of switching back and forth in /etc/group will bring it back. The only way to get it back is to reboot and start all over again (have not tried persistent changes).

Any ideas?

Can someone upload a torrent of the packages iso, version 3? I've got the direct download stuck at 99%. No it's not because of antivirus, firewall, outdated drivers/firmware, OS, not using a download manager etc. It's frustrating though! Thanks in advance. Looking forward to trying it!

tried using:

got the error:
dpkg: can't open '/var/lib/dpkg/status': No such file or directory
i'd appreciate any help in this regard.

burnbox not showing dvd tab, dvd+rw-tools installed

i'm running stable slitaz 2.0
used tazpkg depends dvd+rw-tools , and i have all the pkgs listed installed.
have a dvd in the drive, the drive works fine, used it to burn/install the slitaz iso

midori often hangs

I tried to post a comment and the midori hanged for many times before i can do. Also it hanged when I was sending email yesterday.
It takes almost 100% of cpu . I changed its priority, stopped then started, but nothing worked . I think there is a bug in midori.

please tell me some command which clutches midori and gives it only required resources

Hi.I've got three questions.1)Why is it installed icons don't apply to thunar and do on pcmanfm? 2)On old pc's imho chromium works best (midori doesn't open hotmail),but I can't install it.(worked fine in 2.0). 3)How can I avoid the keyboard switch to qwerty each time xorg is activated?Oh,one small question.Got this old compaq 5000 with a medieval nvanta card.Is there any driver available for this?In ubuntu the nouveau driver does the trick (legacy,riva,nvanta).

Suddenly I am forced to text login.
I made tazx but with no success. Next time I do startx I obtain a very verbose log page. Last lines are something like this:

no screens found
XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0"

What have I to do?

When i try to go to page 2 (or other) of the forum by clicking on the number at the bottom of the screen i get a page with this:

Live CD Don't Boot

I wanna test SliTaz in a old PC, but when booting the system its freeze at this line:

"Detecting PCI Devices Kernel Modules"

There is someone that had this problem too??

The PC is a Pentium 400Mhz, 256Mb ram.

What linux version on latest cooking?

I am new here and I couldn't find this information. What linux version is used on the latest cooking version?
If my information is correct my wireless card broadcom 4312 is supported by linux 2.6.32 and later, so I am wondering if Slitaz cooking will make my wireless card work? :-)

Hi --

I have a little problem with my kernel packages at the moment. I was running 2.6.33.2 this morning, which was perfect, but when I upgraded to 2.6.33.4 my wireless modules won't load; they complain about 'unknown symbols'. The stable (2.6.30) has no support for my wifi chip nor my USB wifi adaptor at all, so I have to run a Cooking kernel on a Stable installation.

Thankfully my Ethernet still works, so I was wondering if anyone had TazPkgs for the 2.6.33.2 set? I need:

problem shutting down an old pc.

When I shut down my old pc, it remains on. That is, on the monitor I read "Computer halted" but all the led lights remain on and the power is not turned off. With another distro I use, the options "acpi=off apm=power-off" on the kernel line solved the problem. But the same options on the slitaz kernel line yield no result (that is, computer does not shut down).
Is there any other option I can use?

aplaymidi problem

GIVES ERROR MESSAGE:
ALSA lib seq_hw.c:457:(snd_hw_seq_open) open /dev/snd/seq failed: No such file or directory
Cannot open sequencer - No such file or directory

Would someone know cause/remedy to this error/problem? Thanks much in advance for your help.

Vanilla forum bug with its own permalinks

Permalinks usually send me to a page with no posts and the only way I found to get to the post is to click older 50 posts, click in the address bar, and click enter or go for the permalink again. Refresh does not work.

Collection of SliTaz GNU/Linux 3.0 packages... how can I use it?

Hello to everybody! Forgive me and my poor english, but I am a newbie of Slitaz. I downloaded the Collection of SliTaz GNU/Linux 3.0 packages and put it on a sd card, then I booted my system from it, hoping to find a Slitaz installation completed with all available packages (by the way this installation occupies almost 2 GB instead of 1 GB written on site).

Instead of a complete suite of all applications, I found the standard Slitaz installation, with only the minimum set of applications installed. For example, for using Abiword I still have to download it from internet. I read that it is necessary to run the install.sh script to install application. But how can I do it? Script is located in root directory of my card, but it is not in the root directory of my filesystem in ram. Is it possible to automatize installation of all packages? So that I don't have to repeat installation each time I boostrap?

remastering problem

I downloaded stable ver. 3.0 and extracted it to a usbflash by UNETBOOTIN

1) Now in the system running in live mode when I installed mPlayer and the depending packages
but when I try to play a video file it gives a "-vo error"

2) Further I tried to make an iso so that I can preserve the current install with mPlayer,
But once the during iso creation i gaot an error like that.... cannot mount kernel
the next time i tried it said completed but I dont know there it has saved the new iso
3) Y dont u include a video player in the default stable release .In which world you live??!

Problem with PCMCIA interface?

Hi,

I am running slitaz-3.0-loram-cdrom.iso on a Toshibe Satellite 2140CDS (450MHz, 32mb RAM).

I am unable to get Slitaz to recognise my PCMCIA wifi card (Netgear MA401).

pccardctl status returns:

Socket 0:
no card
Socket 1:
5.0V 16-bit PC Card

pccardutils ident returns:

Socket 0:
no product info available
Socket 1:
no product info available

I've Googled this output, and this website http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy//viewtopic.php?p=314278&sid=80693b96990b0e427198c0eefc6914b8 suggests it is a problem with the PCMCIA interface. Another website I found suggested installing pcmciautils, but I haven't been able to work out how to do this (although I have seen from the Slitaz website that pcmciautils is included)

In what may be an unrelated issue, I get the following error message at boot, and when trying to launch PCMan File Manager:

Error: Unable to establish connection with FAM.

Do you have “FAM or “Gamin” installed and running?

mplayer -vo error

downloaded stable ver. 3.0 and installed it to hard drive

It automatically installed the mPlayer when I clike play movie in the menu

But now whenever I try to play a .wmv movie only audio comes and it gives the error:

Fatal error!
Error opening/initializing the selected videoout (-vo ) device

I used the command
mplayer -vo xv
and

mplayer -vo x11
but still I am getting the same error.

I have recently installed the stable 3.0 on hdd . Grub is the boot nloader but I found no option in grub to boot win2k sp4which was running quite well on other partition.
Grub should automatically detect it . now how to add it again in bootlist?

Chrome not present after remaster

Hi all, I'm using slitaz 3.0. After installing and testing OK Chrome on live cd y ran tazlito with writeiso but It doesn´t preserve its installation. I found that Chrome is installed under /opt and that folder doesn't exist in remastered version. Thanks for any help. Sorry for my English.

I've performed a hd install from slitaz-3.0-loram-cdrom.iso. I had the same issues as MarceloCP and gychang (see http://forum.slitaz.org/index.php/discussion/1026/hd-install-init:-can-t-log-tp-dev-tty5) so I booted from the LiveCD and copied /etc, /dev and /sbin to /media/disk. I've now booted from the hd and get as far as the login prompt (which is an improvement over an infinite cycle error message), but I can't login. I didn't set the logins or passwords to be anything different when I did the install, and I've tried root root, tux tux, and various combinations. Any suggestions on what the login and password are?

Where WiFi and screen brightness just work (Fn or hotkeys), and maybe later some fancy stuff like sleep resume etc (not htat everyone will use it, to maximize battery autonomy/runtime).
Or is there one already available?

Icons not loading in the main menu

Hello there, it's been a while since I posted in the forums, which I suppose is good, because I haven't had any issues. :) But now I do. I changed the GTK, OpenBox, and panel themes so that my Slitaz looks like Mac OSX. It does, but the icons in the panel menu (the one with all the applications in it) don't load anymore. I think I remember them loading when I first applied the theme, but not after I rebooted. I don't know much about the menu, or the panel at all. Care to help, please?
