Creating a new user in Slitaz Usb install

I am trying to solve the problem to create a new user in a Slitaz Live Usb installation. Apparently tux user is no longer usable after saving current configuration with TaszUsb Write. The only available user after first reboot is root user.

I used control box to add a new user, then restarted my X session and logged in with the new user's account. The problem is that there is no longer any panel in the bottom end side of the screen. Really there is no panel anymore and I am not able to restore it in any way. If I log out and then log in again as root user, panel is in place correctly, but it doesn't start when I log in with new user account.

Is there any way to restore panel? Should I copy some configuration file to the new user's home directory?

Build a package from many rpm's

Hello all,

i have a program with a lot of rpm's (like LotusNotes or OpenOffice).

All rpm's would be convert with
tazpkg convert xxxxxxx.rpm

This works fine for all rpm's.

Some of the packages (.tazpkg aka converted rpm's) have in the file a section "BUGS". At this section i found missing dependencies. This missing dependencies are in one of the other converted packages.

I need a solution to resolve the missing dependencies.

Example:
core01.rpm
core02.rpm
core03.rpm
prog-1.rpm
prog-2.rpm

prog-1 has dependencies to core01 and core03.
prog-2 has dependencies to core01 and core02.
core02 has dependencies to core03.

Does any one know what package commands like "wall" and "write" would be in?
The seem like basic commands that should be somewhere, but I've searched for everything I could think of with tazpkg.

Does anyone know of a package that is available that will allow me to write a message to other users that are logged into a tty?

Touchscreen support

I have installed slitaz on an old Fujitsu Lifebook B-2154 laptop and all is well except that the touchscreen has some issues. The screen appears to be in need of calibration but I cannot find any information on how to do this. When I tap/tap and drag on the screen it does respond but is out by some distance. I have tried modifying my xorg.conf with values other people seem to have had success with on other distros but cannot get any accuracy within slitaz.

I am assuming that the required drivers are compiled within the 2.6 kernel used by slitaz since the screen does respond just not very accurately.

Any help or pointers would be greatfully received.

[SOLVED] Wireless Atheros usb doesn't work

I have SLitaz installed on an old laptop.
I have a TP-link Wireless usb adapter, I followed the installation instruction for finding and installing the corresponding module which is the Atheros 9240.
When I type lsmod, the module seems loaded but when I do iwconfig there is no wireless interface.
Someone could tell me how what can I do it worked?

After I tried to compile and install streamtuner from source I cannot execute any programs anymore. The Terminal shows me:

\u@\h:\w\$

When I type

bash

I get a "normal" Terminal.

What I did to compile streamtuner was the standard configure - make - make install. I installed all of the dependencies (the devel-packages) and I installed zsh.
After getting this strange Terminal I removed zsh.

What can I do to get Slitaz to work again?

SliTaz not booting any programs

My granddaddy passed away a few months ago and shortly before he died he bought an acer laptop with vista home premium. He had a password on it that none of us know now so im trying to find it so my grandmother can use the computer. I can get SliTaz to load but what i understand is that the program OphCrack is supposed to start up automatically but its not. I can get to the login in screen of slitaz and login in as root or "tux" but still dont know how to get ophcrack to run. Im useing a USB drive to boot. Thanks for your time lookin.

i just have to chime in and say wow! i messed around with 2.0 a year ago and really enjoyed it but had a few issues with it. i think my issues were mostly with xvesa and not being able to fully use all of my keys/touchpad on my netbook.

i have been playing around with 3.0 for a few days now and i am very impressed with the progress that has been made since 2.0. i have been running stable 3.0 off of a 1gig stick. i just upgraded to cooking mainly for the newer midori and the new vlc (i do not like pre 1.0). midori is just amazing, on 2.0 it was still quite buggy but not any more!

i have tweeked 3.0 to behave more like #!- added a bunch of superkey shortcuts, tweeked synaptics to scroll and double tap lock, added conky and vlc... still not sure if i will get rid of lxpanel for tint2 yet.

quick question: since its running totally in ram can i unmount the usb stick and remove it after i boot as long as i am not gzipping changes?

also- if i were to install to the ssd drive would slitaz still boot completely into ram?

[Solved] Dialup internet problem in Cooking 20100314

When trying to connect to the Internet, I can only receive data from secure (https://) sites. Never encountered anything like this. Usually an Internet connectivity problem is all or nothing: either you're connected or you aren't.

My connection is an old fashioned analogue dial-up modem type. I use a USRobotics 56K V.92 external serial port faxmodem on COM1 (/dev/ttyS0). I snagged the wvdial, wvstreams, OpenSSL, and linux-dialup packages, and they installed just fine. wvdialconf detected my modem right away, and filling in the required fields in /etc/wvdial.conf was easy. wvdial called my ISP and it logged in with no trouble. Watching the console messages I saw that I got an IP address and DNS addresses. There was an /etc/resolv.conf file with those nameservers listed, and it had appropriate permissions. But I couldn't surf.

After trying several web addresses with no response, I tried one with some secure and some non-secure items, and only the secure items came in. This was the big clue, and I tried several secure sites (https://), and lo and behold, they all came in fine. Only non-secure sites didn't respond. Ping is the same, so it's not limited to Midori. I have two ISPs, actually, and they displayed the same problem.

This only happens on Cooking 20100314. Stable-2.0 makes pppd connections just fine on my machine, as do other Linuxes, plus one FreeBSD distro. Is there anything else I should tell you? I'm an end-user with a few years' experience with Linux of various flavors, but no expert by any means. Does this problem ring any bells for anyone?

Oh, the linux-dialup package: was it sufficient just to install it, or should I have modprobed something from there after installing? Just a thought.

Keyboard Maps

I am very impressed with SLitaz 3.0 but I have noticed that the UK English keyboard map is incorrect in that the " and @ characters are on the wrong keys as are some others. From memory I believe that the UK map is in fact a copy of US keyboard map. Can the map be edited or is an revised version available.

I am starting using slitaz linux. And I am find it very sutable for me but it has some problems.
Russification adding "Russian language support". If I specify "ru" option to boot loader I'll have system with no ability to swich between keymaps and no CP1251 support only UTF. Even mc has work unusual way.
So to fix it I have to select "us" to boot loader and after boot run as root following sequence:

tazpkg get-install glibc-locale
localedef --no-archive -c -f CP1251 -i ru_RU ru_RU.CP1251
setxkbmap "us,ru" ",winkeys" "grp:alt_shift_toggle,grp_led:scroll"

Only after. I can swich between russian and english layouts and able to view CP1251 web pages.
But xtern still work strange.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this

I have trouble running PS7 on Wine. On other distribution I could install mscorefonts from the wine repository. In Slitaz however, I don't know how to add sources other than tazpkg.

PS says it need Windows System Fonts to work whenever I use the Text-tool.

i created a disc image with the iso file i downloaded
then i started booting and choose my language and the type of keyboard...
after a while i should login i read on aircrack the account root so i tried it ...
But when i type in the login name i cant type in a passwort also i dont now the real passwort?!

i followed the bluetooth guide but still fail with my bluetooth device. bluettothhd didn't display any messages and btusb is not found when modprobing.

the guide says install 2 packages:


tazpkg get-install bluez
tazpkg get-install linux-bluetooth

these steps can now be easily done with tazpkg gui on slitaz 3.0. however, the guide does not mention that there are dependencies and one of the biggest is python. i'm trying to keep my slitaz really small. do i need those dependencies?

Bad thing is that this flavor is less compatible to official cooking packages. Upgrading package is possible problems. Just installing package is OK. but there exist several different name with official packages. It is potentially to happen to overwrite package with official package inadvertently.

With the standard Kernel i didn't have access to my harddisk, because i have the SCH Poulsbo controller (see title).

Please use: < lspci -k > to see your hardware.

I now recompiled the Kernel with following additional information < CONFIG_PATA_SCH=y >.

Greetings to all and my recognition for their work. I have upgraded my system and there is recompiled their kernel; the new kernel boots up without problems, but I am not able to recompile the ndiswrapper module so that it works with the new kernel; when attempting it I obtain this message:

WARNING: This kernel lacks wireless extensions.
Wireless drivers will not work properly.

And the first printed error is:

iw_ndis.c:1966:2: error: unknown field 'num_private' specified in initializer

On the download page there is the option of downloading a collection of packages. It states that it is less than 1 gig but when I start the download it notifies me that it is 1.5 gig. I have a 1 gig usb pendrive. Is there any way that list of packages could be re-packaged for 2 x 750meg. Thanks.
