How to play on line TV on FireFox.

Hi.

i am installed the FireFox 3.6.7 wite Adobe flash player, it's running verywell on Slitaz, can play the Internet-Video, can watch the Youtube-Video Nicely. But can not watch the on-line TV. what els for the additional codec do i have to install to solve this problem.

Bug (?) : openbox-session - cooking version - solved (at least on my install)

With SliTaz cooking, updated to the latests versions, openbox does not start.
It seems to be due to the fact that the last line of openbox-session contains "$@" and that openbox-session does not accept any argument (normal ??).
Anyway, the fix :
Replace :
exec /usr/bin/openbox "$@"
with :
exec /usr/bin/openbox

Enabling winkey for menu

Is there a way to enable the winkey to display the menu (sort of like in windows)? I use the keyboard a lot and its a pain having to use the mouse to click on the menu button. With the winkey, you can use it to open the menu, then simply navigate through the menu using the arrow keys.

Issues with Broadcom wireless

I have been trying to get my wireless interface running with no luck.

Followed the instructions I found elsewhere on this forum:
- installed b43-firmware and b43-fwcutter
- installed linux-wireless
- loaded the driver through wifibox
- lsmod shows the b43 module loaded
- edited network.conf to activate wifi at boot

But I don't see any networks in the list nor does iwconfig show any wireless extensions. Any direction would be very helpful. Thanks.

Wired network issues with hard drive install

I'm facing a peculiar issue. When I boot using a LiveUSB eth0 is correctly detected, DHCP is enabled and the system connects to the network perfectly.

However, when I install to the hard drive, it doesn't work. eth0 is detected correctly, but somehow it never procures an IP from the DHCP server and therefore does not connect! I have tried using udhcpc, but it keeps saying "sending a discover" but never gets the IP. Checked on the DHCP servers logs, nothing there, it does not even register an attempt to procure an IP.

Any ideas what's going on? I tried both the stable as well as the cooking versions, same issue. I even tried the madbox cooking version out of desperation, still the same thing!

installer but it failed to boot.I only find a Lost& Found Directory on the Drive

I hope it's OK I post this here.
I create some 3D logos for a few different Linux distributions with Blender 3D.
Slitaz is one of them. They are very simple, basically the SVG files from the Slitaz site extruded and beveled.

I just thought I would share them with you guys so you can play with them if you would like.

slitaz hangs at slim login screen

After fixing mbr/grub issues with a xubuntu cd, I booted to my fresh slitaz installation to find that it hangs at the login screen. trying to switch to a tty does not work. caps lock or num lock lights on my keyboard do not change either. Nor does cntrl alt delete. Only a hard reset works. I tried adding acpi=off to the kernel options in the grub menu.lst, didn't change anything. Does anyone know what I might be missing?

To fix it :

Ive been stuck on this all day.

Trying to install the driver for my ew-7711utn usb wireless card. I have downloaded the linux driver, I have installed toolchain, headers, bash. When I try to make the driver, I get...

make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.30.6-slitaz/build no such file or directory. stop
make: *** [LINUX] error 2

what do I do to get make to work? I have tried several versions of the driver from several sources. I tried changing the sym link from /bin/sh-->/bin/bash to -->bin/busybox but this made no difference, no idea if I was right to try?

Hello all, first time posting on the Slitaz forums.

I have recently installed Slitaz to a flash drive for data recovery and working on old machines. I am very impressed at all the capability and applications the Slitaz team has fit into a <30mb package. I have searched the internet far and wide for an explanation on how to get Slitaz's home directory to reside on the thumb drive. I love how Slitaz resides in RAM, but it is quite cumbersome to boot off cd, install packages, write new cd, load new cd, create liveUSB merely to add a new app to my thumb drive.

How can I make Slitaz work in RAM but write programs and move the home folder to the thumb drive? I have already tried the "slitaz home=usb", but that defiantly does not work, and even if it did, the sda# would get messed up on computers with SATA hard drives.

Computer hangs on login screen if eth0 unplugged!

I installed slitaz-3 stable and I am trying to setup the broadcom wireless interface. I just noticed, if I unplug wired cable, and try to reboot, the system hangs on the login screen. Only hard reset works. Plugging the cable back and restarting the system makes it work again! Any suggestions on what could be causing this issue? I cannot use the machine unless the ethernet cable is plugged in.

Creating default user, configuring root password during USB install

If I remember correctly, when installing from a LiveUSB, the install script provided the following options:

- specify default user (in place of tux) as well its password
- configure target for /home with the option to format it
- change root password

These options don't seem to show up anymore. Now whenever I run the install it only asks the target location for installing the OS and that's it. None of the above options are presented. The install completes with the default user "tux" with the default passwords for root and tux and configures /home in the same partition as the target for the install.

Any ideas what's going on? Has the install script changed?

i'm a linux beginner so be patient.
im start using slitaz live ( aircrack distro ) via usb and im not able to see my wlan0 nterface.

if i issue the command ifconfig -a i can see only :

eth0
lo

if i issue the comand lspci -nn on a hp proliant 6500 i can see my network card " bcm4311 [14e4:4311] "
i've issued the same command on another laptop ( acer insipre one d150 ) with same resoult. only chipset changes
if i issue the comand lspci -nn on acer aspire i can see my network card " bcm4311 [14e4:4315] "
i've tryed to load the b43 driver from wireless manager but nothing happen
i've issued the command staraaoath0 but it return "no such device and interface do not support scanning".

can someone tell me whats wrong with my pc's or more probably with me? :-)

Is this a good idea to pack all the executables with UPX? Of course, except of busybox & shell scripts. And this will need "hack" md5 in filelist of packages.

My apologies if this is a silly question.

I have a Dell Mini 9 with 2 GB memory and 64 GB SSD. I only plan to use this laptop when on the road, for maybe email, some basic word processing, spreadsheet work, etc. nothing too intensive.

In this context, can I skip creating/using a swap partition altogether? I have read that the typical recommendations for a swap partition is double the memory size. Seems to me a big waste to allocate 4 GB of space for swap when the entire OS needs only a couple of hundred MB at best in the memory and this laptop has 2 GB RAM.

I would rather use the extra space to store some music ;).

[solved] texts are too small after changing the resolution

After changing the resolution by editing the xorg.conf the system texts (menu, header, icon name etc.) become too small. However, the text size in Leafpad and Midori is fine. I tried changing values in openbox configuration but it did not really help since only header is only affected by the change. Is there a way to change the size of system text to normal?

The printing is fine with my Epson LQ-300+ printer. However, when I plug the usb on a different port I have to delete and add a new printer profile in Cups. Is there a way to enable the function like automatic port detecting or something?

Hello!
Just saw SliTaz mentioned on Reddit and decided to look at it and am very pleased indeed!

I have it installed on my USB key with another distribution, and am able to boot either distro from the ISO images directly on my USB stick. However I would like to be able to save some settings and installed packages so that I don't have to config/download each time.

I've tried using "tazusb writefs ..." but that creates the rootfs file in the temporary unpacked ISO filesystem, which of course cannot be saved.

Is there any way to give a device and path where SliTaz should look to find persistent config?

I am thinking something along the lines of what Tiny Core Linux does, where you can give a UUID and path and it will load various settings from that location (after having searched for the drive with the given UUID).

This works very well on Tiny Core. Is there a way to get the same with SliTaz ?

I've been trying, for a few days, to join the Slitaz mailing list.
I keep getting the message below when I try.
I thought it may have to do with the recent server problems,
but the site seems to be back up and running.
That and the mailing list seems to be through tuxfamily.org,
so the Slitaz.org problems should effect it.

Anyway, am I do something wrong or is there something up with the server?
