can't install conkyForcast...

Hello, everyone.

I have my conky monitor system running very well on my machine, and i want to additional the weather forecast to my conky, then i have been download file name "conkyforecast-2.05.ta.gz" from website "http://source.antisupport.com/conkyforecast/" and i have got directory name "conkyforcast" after extracted this file. my problem is inside that directory it is one fire name "conkyforecast" (with no extention) must be install to my Slitaz system. But i don't know how to do, also try to convert to .tazpkg but it's dosn't work. Any ideas or any other way to add weather forcast to Slitaz' conky?

Liferea in Stable?

Hi --

I would like a software RSS reader and found one in Liferea. This is available in Cooking, specifically the unstable v1.7.4. However, I am running SliTaz Stable though Liferea has a stable branch, currently at v1.6.3. It cooks fine on my machine, less two missing build deps and a suggested dep (ASpell).

Would it be possible to have the stable branch of Liferea added to the Stable repos by whoever maintains the Liferea available in Cooking? Or shall I do so myself? I think it is one piece of software missing from the Stable repo.

webcam support in slitaz: Howto

Hi all,

Erjo and I are trying to get the full webcam support in slitaz. Slitaz, previously, provided out of box support to some of the webcams (uvcvideo and gspca_main)

Download/install the following pkgs from http://people.slitaz.org/~jozee/packages/

1) linux-video pkg  (having many more webcams support e.g. philips, logitech) (I will add this to repos soon)
2) libv4l pkg (video 4 linux 1 and 2 support extra libs) (now in repos)

Then, plugin your webcam

 
tazhw detect-usb

/dev/video0 should be created. Add yourself to "video" group if not done already.

Then:

For skype:


export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so 
skype &

(if you don't do LD_PRELOAD, skype will crash when video starts)

You should then be able to see your webcam in skype:
OPTIONS->Video device-> Usb camera (/dev/video0)
Press "Test" and you should see a live image.

For mplayer:

download mplayer-svn based with tv, v4l enabled (http://hg.slitaz.org/wok/rev/9bf33ac95b16)

 export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so
mplayer tv:// -tv driver=v4l2:width=320:height=240:device=/dev/video0 -vo x11

Hope it works for you too. Let us know. We can then put this in wiki.

i have been install Terminal expect to work insteadly the Xterm, but when i use the "PCMan File Manager" and select "tool --> Open terminal" the PCMan always show the Xterm. also in "PCMan File Manager" i use the menu "Edit --> Preferences --> Advanced --> Terminal" the Terminal consoll is not show in list, please kindly suggest how can i get the Terminal to be the current consoll terminal instead the Xterm.

Hi. I'm on cooking version trying to update transmission to the newest available 1.93. I also update all dependencies by this command $ tazpkg depends transmission > fil1e1 and then $ tazpkg get-install-list file1. Transmissions runs but with no icons. And there is an GTK error loading theme Icon: Unrecognized image file format. Can anyone help with this issue? Andrew

after tried hard for more than 2 days, i'am still get the promblem sending mail via smtp.live.com on Claws-mail. even carryfully follow exactly "http://my.opera.com/wpost/blog/hotmail-claws" but it's dosn't work. also the same problem when i running sylpheed. the Log file is shown the same thing "* Connecting to SMTP server: smtp.live.com ...*** Error occurred while sending the message."

anyone get experience same problem like this before, or anyone know how to solve this problem please kindly suggest. this is very big problem for me.

Sound card wizard comes up every time while booting

The Slitaz's sound card detection comes up every time when the computer is booting. I did select every options available including "skip installing sound card" but the wizard always come up when reboot. I don't really need the sound for this computer anyway - How could I disable this wizard?

Non-root user boots straight into Openbox

Hello all.

I was one of the many people affected by the weird bug that made it so non-root users couldn't login. Thanks to the documentation on the Slitaz website I was able to fix it only to end up with another problem.

When I log in as my non root user 'mike' there's no LXpanel at the bottom and no PCManFM drawing the background and desktop icons. All that appears is the white mouse cursor on a black screen. Of course, I can right-click to get the Openbox menu and open two terminals to invoke LXPanel and PCManFM, but they should be loading automatically from my autostart.sh file. What gives?

I have run into a new problem. When I try to watch online video, for example youtube, the cpu speed hits the roof, and the video stutters really badly, i.e a new picture every 2 seconds. Why is this happening? I have read on this forum on people watching youtube with much small cpus than mine.

512mb ram
18gb hd
pentium 4 M CPU 1.80GHz

PS I have the flash player installed from get-flash-plugin I have also tried installing open-source alternatives gnash and swfdev, but neither of these even worked at all. I use the Shiretoko FireFox.

Hi,

I would like to create an Iso with tazpkg links in it but with Tazlito -> Writeiso

I have this message :

Unable to mount the cdrom to copy the Kernel and needed files. When SliTaz
is running in RAM the kernel and bootloader files are kept on the cdrom.
Please insert a LiveCD or unmount the current cdrom to let Tazlito handle
the media.

And with this command

I really wish to create an rootfs.gz which inside there are tazpkg link's . This way
I could install my rootfs.gz on frugal mode and boot it in RAM but still have access
to heavy packages installed on an external HD.

Has anybody tried the same ?

No sound on stable Slitaz

I have been trying to get sound to work in "cooking" but without luck. I can live with that for now.

I have also downloaded the stable version but alas again no sound.!The soundcard is detected and I have run soundconf in the terminal. Is there something that I am missing. Should I update my system? I have seen that many of the sound related problems seem to relate to "cooking" but is this true of stable?

When I have sorted sound, then flash plugin is next on the list. Fun times ahead!!!

I'm new to Linux and am considering Slitaz or Lubuntu, but decided to try Slitaz based on its ability to run with minimum resources (as opposed to Windows XP and its app base). My laptop is an old Fujitsu upgraded to its limit: P3 500Mhz with 256 MB RAM, a 20GB HDD, DVD R/W drive.
I have no programming background, and been using 1.MS Office - Word, Excel, PPt; 2. Windows Media Player for playing videos and audio as well as for ripping audio CDs; 3. Audiograbber for converting old tapes to mp3; 4.Yahoo and gmail for email; 5.Internet with Mozilla Firefox; 6. Skype for video phone calls, 7. Adobe Acrobat Reader for pdf files.
Can someone on this forum list out for me which applications I will need from Slitaz repository, in addition to base Slitaz 3.0, that will give me similar, if not identical functionality as above.
Please note - I am migrating from Windows and thus have a legacy of files I would still like to view/edit while in the Slitaz environment.

failed script to install on liveUSB

I wanted to make a script to recharge tazpkg and install firefox and flash without using a GUI.

I started with:

I made the script executable but when it executes it asks for a password and does absolutely nothing. I expected a terminal to appear displaying the relevant commands executing but nothing happened. This is all happening on a liveusb. what am I doing wrong?

Hello, everyone.

i use the claws-mail as my e-mail client for send and receive from hotmail service.

My problem is i can get my e-mail via pop3.live.com nicely, but i can't send my e-mail via smtp.live.com it's look like smtp.live.com configuration on my claws-mail was not correct. i try to change a lot of thing on my configuration but the log screen is always shown only ....

[SOLVED] TTY support for RFCOMM not enabled even after recompile

I followed the instructions at http://doc.slitaz.org/en:guides:bluetooth. As pointed out in the guide,

zcat /proc/config.gz | grep RFCOMM

returns

CONFIG_BT_RFCOMM=m
# CONFIG_BT_RFCOMM_TTY is not set

So I went ahead and downloaded linux-source, then rebuilt the RFCOMM module with TTY support enabled. The module compiles successfully. However, after replacing rfcomm.ko in /lib/modules/...../rfcomm/, I am still unable to get TTY support. "rfcomm bind all" does not create /dev/rfcomm0. "rfcomm bind rfcomm0" returns "Can't create device: Operation not supported" and "zcat /proc/config.gz | grep RFCOMM" still shows up as "# CONFIG_BT_RFCOMM_TTY is not set".

Been googling this for a couple of days now without luck. Any pointers on what I'm doing wrong? I also upgraded all the packages just to be on the safe side, still no luck.

Almost all packages are gone. Html source code is incomplete (w/o final < /body > < /html >).

but tazpkg doesnt then actually GET openoffice... How do I run get-OpenOffice to actually get it?

No GUI in live CD

I want to install Slitaz linux in my hard drive, but can't even load live CD. After booting and logging in I type "startx" and there are a lot of errors. As if Slitaz couldn't identyfy my video card. In Debian identyfy my video card as intel, and works perfectly with driver from xorg.

Please help!!!
