wistron_btns: unknown symbol in module

Hello!

I'm using Slitaz 3.0 stable. Just now, I compiled the kernel module "wistron_btns.ko". The compilation exited with no errors/warnings. Here are the steps I did:

cd /usr/src/linux-2.6.30.6-slitaz
nano .config
"# CONFIG_INPUT_WISTRON_BTNS is not set" changed to "ONFIG_INPUT_WISTRON_BTNS=m"

make CONFIG_INPUT_WISTRON_BTNS=m M=drivers/input/misc
mkdir -p /lib/modules/2.6.30.6-slitaz/kernel/drivers/input/misc
cp drivers/input/misc/wistron_btns.ko /lib/modules/2.6.30.6-slitaz/kernel/drivers/input/misc
depmod -a
modprobe wistron_btns

But modprobe gave me the following message:

insmod: cannot insert '/lib/modules/2.6.30.6-slitaz/kernel/drivers/input/misc/wistron_btns.ko': unknown symbol in module
modprobe: failed to load module wistron_btns: No such file or directory

Does anyone know what exactly is missing?

Edit: dmesg showed, that check_signature was missing. How could I solve this problem?

I have installed slitaz 3.0 and all the hardware up and running. I was using xvesa and later moved on to xorg after i found the correct driver for RDC video card. I installed SCIM using the package manager but Ctrl-space does not trigger SCIM. I am able to configure SCIM. SCim icon is sitting the tray since I added scim -d & to .xinitrc file.

What else needs to be done to make SCIM work ?

tried to upgrade cooking; numerous packages appear to be reverted to prior on mirrors. Why?

I will note that for me things are working quite well. The only problem seems to be occasional focus problem with mouse button/taps.

Hey all, I was wondering if somebody got a whois client to work on their SliTaz.

I tried gwhois (which required me to install lynx), but it didn't work at all.

Then I tried adding the debian whois client by compiling source - it installs and all, but when I try whoising anything I get getaddrinfo(whois.za.net): Bad value for ai_flags.

I would really love to have a whois client going to help me look up domain registrations, so if anybody can point me in the right direction then I would really appreaciate it.

Hey guys, i just downloaded a copy of slitaz, and when i ran the live cd, it refuses to start the x server, coming up with a "fatal error".

Its an hp pavilion dv6000, that i hope to have a FULL running slitaz on the HD.

Any ideas?

I just recently installed slitaz to my notebook, and i've been having problems getting the wlan up. it does not find a wireless network, and when i put in my essid and password, it will not sthart the connection.modprobe wl leads to no problems, but when i try to get the eth1 up, it says SIOCGIFFLAGS: No such device.

Hi,
I've downloaded the SliTaz 3.0 Stable version and booted it up.
It didn't work ;), so I started searching the forum for a possible solution.
After trying to pass some parameters to the kernel (acpi=off vga= no387 sound=no screen=) I've managed to get the command line working.
The solution was to use the "screen=text" parameter.
I've used a gentoo distribution a couple of years ago and I remember that the moment, when the SliTaz hanged, was the moment when the X server should start. For me the X server doesn't start, instead I see a black monitor screen. When the hang occurs, the Capslock/ScrollLock lights on the keyboard work, but apart from that the laptop is completely dead (can't access the consoles at Ctrl+Alt+F1-F6/F7)
If I'm logged in with the "screen=text" parameter, if I unleash the "startx" command, the system acts as if I haven't passed the "start=text" parameter.
I wonder if the cause could be the video drivers on the CD.
I'm using:
- SliTaz 3.0 Stable (md5 checked)
- Dell D610 with
- Intel 915 GM Chipset (with integrated GPU)
- SXGA+ 1400x1050 lcd screen
- 1.83 GHz Pentium M
Is there a possibility I will be able to boot your linux distribution? I really like the documentation you've provided on the web page (it's very concise and throughout).
I'll try the Cooked version for a couple of minutes from now.

Hi,
I'm trying to create a LiveUSB from the LiveCD.
I'm using the Cooking Version 20100314
When I invoke the "tazusb gen-liveusb /dev/sdb1" command, the error appears:
cp: cannot stat '/media/cdrom/boot/isolinux/*.inc' : No such file or directory
I've looked the forums and the solution was to install a newer version of the tazpkg package.
This didn't help. I have the tazpkg-3.4 version and the problem still occurs.
I thought that maybe the problem was to just mount the cdrom with the command
mount /media/cdrom
But this doesn't help also, futhermore, after I enter the command tazusb gen-liveusb /dev/sdb1(and after the error occurs) the LiveCD is unmounted (no files in the /media/cdrom).
The problem is also present, when I use the Stable 3.0 Version.
//edit:
apparently there are no *.inc files in the /media/cdrom/boot/isolinux/ directory (I've mounted the cdrom first).
Oh, and how to use the [code] markers on this forum?

Hey all, I'm new to SliTaz and coming from a previous Debian and Ubuntu experience. I'm currently running 3.0 stable.

Couple of questions for you guys (and gals):
1. Which is better to use Stable or Cooking?
- For example, VLC and Mplayer runs in x11 mode only, which creates a seperate window in VLC (as in unembedded) Video window that cannot be resized. With Mplayer it is within the window, but yet again no way to resize it or run it full screen. gecko-mplayer doesn't work at all. Would this be fixed in Cooking?
- Custom compling (after installing toolchain and dev packages of the requirements and toolchain apps) fails with some programs like xchat 2.8.8, which keeps getting the gettext bug, even though I have both gettext and gettext-dev installed. Is this better in Cooking?
- Abiword doesn't work well (or at all) with files created in .doc format or even files created in odf. get-OpenOffice3 fails to download anything. Is this better in Cooking?
- Why does so many options need Nvidia drivers? Like WINE and SDL-devs?

So far that's my only real grievences with Stable and I was just wondering if it was worth it to switch to Cooking instead. Thanks in Advance!

EDIT: I will add that with custom compiled packages I do use --prefix=/usr with ./configure
EDIT2: I finally got around the gettext in xchat, but it still broke because of some dependancy which was removed/renamed within the latest X.org libraries...

At the bottom right corner of the Slitaz Desktop, there is a little box.
When I click on it, it says:
Please enter root password (default root) to execute:
tazpkgbox
Admin Password:(what do I type here??)
I tried typing in a bunch of different passwords and tryed the autosave password button. Whenever I press OK, it doesn't open up the tazpkgbox thingy. I really want to install flash player so I can watch YouTube and all that.

I'm having trouble compiling mISDN channel drivers on 3.0 with slitaz-toolchain environment.
Is there any chance that mISDN will appear as prebuild slitaz package?
Package was broken in 2.0 stable and remained as such...
There are many of us who are still reluctant to go with Astersik 1.6.... and stil use 1.4 version.

i'm new to slitaz but love it in first sight (actually i'm new to 'linux things' too). i've installed slitaz with standard configuration. but for some reason i need to dissable right click menu that appears when we right click in panel (especially in 'start menu').
is there any way to do that?

hey guys, im fairly knew to linux, so bare with me.

I went through a complete installation on the disk, to install, well, slitaz lol

Now, everything goes fine, and i opt to install the grub menu boot loader as well,
but upon restart, nothing happens.

Now, i tried to manually install grub, searching around the web and all, but stll
no cigar. The computer does not recognize the OS installed, which is the result of
no grub :/

*Side note* I fromatted to ext4, and was wondering if i could use ext4 as the format for this OS?
i did try with ext3, and still didn't work, so i know that isn't the problem.

Any help would be appricated

Synaptics Driver Can't find synaptic touchpad

Xorg recognizes my touchpad under /dev/input/mice , and assigns "mouse" driver to it. When i ask it to use xorg's synaptics driver, it returns, "No synaptics device found. Tried 13 nodes. The synaptics touchpad is showing under /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio4/input8, which shows a device 'mouse1' but it is not showing in /dev/input which only lists mouse0, mice, event0, event1, event2, ts0 (none of which are returning synaptics driver's probing). I wish to use synaptics driver and hence use double-tap drag-lock etc. Anybody knows what i should be doing? (mouse1 also shows under /sys/devices/virtual/input/mice/subsystem/ and so does mice and mouse0 and whole lot of others.mouse1 also shows under /sys/dev/char/13:33/ which just links it to /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio4/input8 ...) I mknod a character device mouse1 in /dev/input with major 13 and minor 33 , but that doesn't work, either. Anybody can help me with how to get the synaptics driver work with my touchpad?

Netbox/ppp : not working for dial-up modem

Hi,

I am new to Slitaz. I installed v.3.0-Firefox and all seems OK but I cannot connect with my modem. It is a 56K type, not ADSL. I used Netbox under the "ppp" tab, with the required information and when I open Firefox there is no connection. Under the "Connections" tab I read "Loopback connected (127.0.0.1). Clicking on "Full Status" a message appears:
"IO Link encap:Local Loopback
Inet address ......
UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU ...
RX ..........
TX .........
etc. "

Back to the "ppp" tab, clicking on "Tune" a script file is displayed. The "ACCOUNT" parameter shows the "Name" from the PPPoE tab, not the "Username" from the "ppp" tab.

Now if I close Netbox and open it again, the "Username" of ppp has changed and I read the "Name" from the PPPoE (wich has not changed).

So there it is. That's all I can say. Hope someone can help.

I want to set up a music playing machine (for an exhibition) using the snow-dillo.iso - the shellscripts are working, when I type them in xterm - I set up the crontab for tux -

crontab -l

shows the jobs crond is running, but nothing happens.

Does anybody have any cronjobs running?

Well, I figure here's the best place to start. When installing the Guest Additions for VirtualBox, I get an error :

Your system does not seem to be set up to build kernel modules. Look at /var/log/vboxadd-install.log to find out what went wrong.

Well, upon checking the vboxadd-install.log, I get the following:

/usr/share/VBoxGuestAdditions/test/build_in_tmp: line 104: make: not found

Mind you, that's just the first of a few errors. I want to tackle them one at a time and bring the end results over to the VirtualBox forum (as a few people there are having issues). Any help would be appreciated.

i only have isdn, and i have to share the connection with 3 windows pc.
for doing this i use an old pc (isdn router is too expensive) with win xp, a winbond 6692 pci isdn, and 3 lancards ( 2x 3com ethernet xl 10/100 pci tx nic and a pci realtek rtl8139).
the problem is that windows hate all isdn ta and the pc crash with bsod 10 times in 1 day...
i was thinking to use slitaz because is little and light...
it has to:
connect and disconnect the isdn connection
jump from single channel to double channel and viceversa
share isdn connection with the 3 win pc
control all this from the windows client (vnc ?)
ability to share files between the windows client.
with windows is easy
can i do that with slitaz? there is a step by step guide? i don't know how to start

wifi troubles: doesn't connect

trying to make my old pentium 4 connect to my house's wifi with it's usb DWL-120 card (dlink). It detects it (or detects an usb wifi card, and determines that it should use the prism_2 controller, which in theory should work for the DWL-120). but it doesn't detect any wifi networks.

Also, I would appretiate some more generic wifi advice, because I am unable to connect my asus eee 1000H either when starting Slitaz from an USB (from ubuntu it connects allright)

Hii all! I was looking for a linux distro for a very old computer -specs(256 MB RAM ,40GB HD ,Pentium3). That is when I came across slitaz and it looks real good. Now the point here is that the system on which I am supposed to install this lies in one remote corner of the country with no internet connection. The primary objective is to listen songs, watch movies and use some office stuff(word processor, spreadsheet etc). In Ubuntu there is something called Ubuntu restricted extras which take care of all these codecs stuff and I am supposed to install them through the internet. So there are a few questions now and hope somebody is kind enough to help:-
1.Would I need all these codecs here too which I presume I would and where do I get it from
2. Can i get some version which comes pre installed with all these media codecs , so that i can just go and install them , as i dont have any internet connection with that system.
3. what else would be an option if no such download is available?
