Automatic backup/restore ...

I'd like to automatically backup a couple of files when re-booting or shutting-down SliTaz and restore them when booting-up again. For restoring the files I put a mount and some copy commands in /etc/init.d/local.sh, which works well. But I have no idea where to put copy commands for the backup. Does anyone know what would be the best place for this?

i thought it might be something like

(for example to search to see if gimp is available in the repository)

... but then... list is just for installed packages. :/

I've looked up the kernel modesetting error and tried i915.modeset=1 on the boot line, but the most that does is change the resolution of the shell I'm dropped into.

Alternatively, the vesa driver works but is somewhat unstable, hence why I'm trying to run the Intel one. Any ideas?

File system

I would like to know which are the packages that create the file system as we can see in /..
When I want to create a Chroot environment, it download rootfs-base which is, I presume, Slitaz-base
. Is there anything smaller ?

I want to create the smallest chroot folder with only mplayer in it (and only the dependencies I haven't already on my Slitaz 3) and thus. link it with a tazpkg link.

The aim is to create a sort of portable Mplayer for Slitaz 3 with auto-launch scripts

VLC crashes on fullscreen

Did some searching but couldn't find anything about this.

Playing videos in VLC works, but when I put them fullscreen VLC crashes. I can reproduce this on three of the computers I own, and they have vastly different hardware setups.

Anyone know how to fix this? It's the only thing stopping me from using SliTaz as my primary OS.

EDIT: hm, interesting, it seems that even resizing the window causes a segfault... this happens with both ffplay and vlc :x

Any ideas?

Can't run midori 0.2.6 (cooking)

Midori is good small one, but have some bugs. That is I decide to update it's version.
I use SliTaz 3.0 and manually download midori-0.2.6.tazpkg and install it. No additional dependencies is requested. But it don't start. In terminal midori says me that SliTaz lacks some libs. I install libssl-1.0.0, then libcrypto-1.0.0. All.
Now midori says next:

When I start midori again, it show me box with text:

I modify preferences and press OK, but nothing changed, and I get the same error in terminal, and midori quits.

Hello,

I'm afraid I'm going to need your help again.

When I boot my slitaz (base distro with some added packages), the process stop at "Starting Hardware Abstration Layer: HAL..."
Then I can do a ctrl-c to stop the current execution and I get the login prompt.

I tried to not start hald during boot and that fixed the problem.

So I have 2 questions :
Is there a mean to have more messages at boot time to debug it ?
What's the purpose of HAL ?

I have the following Confg:

Laptop: Compaq, with Broadcom Wireless LAN Inbuilt,

Modem: the basic BSNL "Smart AX MT882" modem with one LAN and one USB port.

Connection: BSNL broadband
...........

I have been using the BSNL modem with my laptop thru the LAN port for pat many months now.
Though I have had no problems with this, my new house arrangement makes it difficult to continue with the wired option.

What should I do?

I want to connect to BSNL Broadband wirelessly like many people I have met.

Can the WLAN be used to connect to a wireless/Wi-Fi router/modem?

What all hardware I need to buy? Do I need to buy stuff like a PCIMCA WiFi card and a Wifi router?

would wi-fi access DECREASE SPEED of connection from the current wired connection?

Do I have to be in line of sight to use a wi-fi connection?

how much would this whole new setup cost me approx?

I've installed SliTaz 3.0 as a VirtualBox guest, but I'm having trouble getting the autoresize feature to work under Xorg. I've been trying and trying to install the guest additions properly and I have made progress in terms of building the required kernel modules and Xorg drivers, but now I seem to be stuck. Is there anyone who has got this to work and who could give me a hand?

I've tried to create a "search bookmark" in firefox with a following url:

Problems with WIFI USB card TL-WN422g v2

I have problems to configure my TL-WN422G v2 wifi card under Slitaz 3.0. I have compiled latest compat wireless (ath9k_htc) driver (tried also older versions with similar resoluts). Auto detect devices finds module ath9k_htc. Firmware ar9271.fw is also installed in /lib/firmware. The problem is to find network, my wireless manager don't find any networks. Can you help me, please?

ps. i tried also ndiswrapper but without any success.

Xorg installing Video Driver

I have a Sony Vaio PCG-9401( also known as PCG-630). It has a AMD K6-2+ processor. VGA is a trident Corei7. This time my problem is that i can't get the driver to work. I follow the installation from top to bottom. Install linux-agp, install Xorg with trident driver then install linux-drm. Lastly i installed mesa-dri-trident. The order is correct right? well, when i restart for the driver to take in effect, the lcd screen stays black (driver problem). Thank you, I'm sorry but I'm a noob in Linux.

It seems that the get-texlive script is broken. It appears that it can be fixed by making the following changes:

1. change line 13 to WGET_URL="http://mirror.ctan.org/systems/$PACKAGE/tlnet/$TARBALL"

2. on lines 61 and 62, change $SOURCE to $SOURCE-20100512

Obviously, this is just waiting to brake again with the next release.

General question on Slitaz OS

256ram but have a huge hard drive like 40gb for slitaz and you download a lot of applications and packages, will it affect your slitaz speed.

so 256rm, with slitaz applications of 1.2gb slower than slitaz OS with 256ram with 512mb applications?

how to set boot parameters passed to the kernel using LiveUSB?

Hi,
I'm using a LiveUSB created from the SliTaz Stable 3.0 version.
I've found out that the boot directory is in the /home directory.
But inside that boot directory there is no grub.conf file. Instead there is a directory "extlinux" and inside there are some files. I think I should modify one of them, but I don't know how to make grub to display, which one of the configuration files it's using / has stored in the MBR.
I can see that the SliTaz has some selfmade scripts to run the bootloader.
Will it be OK if I just change the bootloader options and update the MBR of the USB using the selfmade grub.conf file?
Or is there another way to do it? (I would have to set the language of the system and some other options apart).
Also, when creating the grub.conf file, should I create a new /boot directory or just mount the /home/boot directory to /boot? (I remember that there was some security issues with mounting the /boot directory).
I was also unable to find any tutorial describing the process of configuring the bootloader for the LiveUSB. Does it exist and if yes, can you provide me a link to it?

When I set home=UUID, the .Xauthority for tux (or any other account I create) goes missing, and I can't log in as anything but root. I've tried workarounds such as copying the .Xauthority from the live session when home isn't set, then pasting it back to /home/tux/ afterwards...still no luck. I've copied everything from /etc/skel/ to no avail. Nothing works.

Any ideas?

Hey guys for some reason I can't extract files from a .zip I haven't tried it on anything other than .zip but I downloaded 7zip and well for one 7zip isn't going up in my menu and two it still isn't decompressing. I don't understand. A little terminal pops up for a second and then goes away and nothing happens. Any thoughts?
