When I do lsusb, i see my webcam as 19ff:0102 Dynex 1.3MP Webcam.

However, when I do tazhw detect-usb, I cannot find my webcam as a module.

I have tried to modprobe uvcvideo, and the webcam still doesn't show up.

tazhw setup webcam also fails without finding the webcam.

I found a driver here: http://www.ideasonboard.org/uvc/#download that is supposed to work for this camera, however I have not been able to make it, getting errors upon trying to make the driver.

Any ideas?

Sorry, but I am a bit of a newbie. I would like to continue on the following thread.

http://forum.slitaz.org/index.php/discussion/1864

How do I "install with" that given package with no net (on the Slitaz machine - loram version since it is an old lappy with 64MB RAM)? On the other hand I though that Slitaz 3.0 comes with pcmciautils, don't it?

Also I did try a few weeks back to add the module xirc2ps_cs to rsS.conf, but no luck. I remember that dmesg still talked about "unknow stuff" (etc.), while ejecting and plugging back, but I can post it (transcribe), if needed.

Please advise. Thank you very much in advance!

I´m working in a shelter for menthally disabled people and I´ve serveral old PC for them to surf the internet and doing some online games.
My problem is that the machines are all with SCSI drives! Slitaz is booting normally in RAM. When I try to use the installer, CD and HDD will not be found. I´ve to install the package "linux-scsi" and do a hardware scan to load the "aic7xxx" driver. Now I can install Slitaz on HDD.
But after reboot an error appears: "Unable to mount root fs...." I think the module "aic7xxx" can´t be loaded in that stage.
I tried everything and made a post in german community. No one was was able to help me.
Maybe here. Is there a flavor with SCSI in the kernel available? Or maybe could someone build it up for me? I´m a linux n00b, so I´d build it on my own if I could.

Please help!
Best regards

For anyone wanting to use Conky http://vanilla.slitaz.org/index.php?p=/discussion/1885/for-anyone-wanting-to-use-conky Mon, 11 Oct 2010 08:19:17 +0200 Deagon 1885@/index.php?p=/discussions
Here is the fix;

Create the file ".conkyrc" in /Home/(YOUR USERNAME) and open with leafpad (or any preferred text editor)

put this at the top

#PCMANFM Fix;
own_window yes
own_window_type normal
own_window_transparent yes
own_window_class Conky
own_window_hints undecorated,below,sticky,skip_taskbar,skip_pager
double_buffer yes

Note: instead of conky being merged with the desktop, then being hidden by pcmanfm file manager. You now have an invisible window, with no decorations that cant be moved and doesnt show up in ALT+TAB or your taskbar. Double buffer is only to stop conky flickering, you would get a slight performance increase without it.

Customise your conky;

These are the configuration options available in .conkyrc under the header "TEXT". This can be used to give your performance meter a custom look that suits your needs.

Setting up a NoMachine (NX) server http://vanilla.slitaz.org/index.php?p=/discussion/1881/setting-up-a-nomachine-nx-server Sun, 10 Oct 2010 20:21:37 +0200 seawolf 1881@/index.php?p=/discussions
I currently have remote access to my machine with SSH and X forwarding. It works wonderfully with key-only auth, no passwords are accepted, and I often run graphical apps via my netbook. Fantastic, but a little slow on dodgy/slow connections elsewhere; I'd like to have some compressed or optimised remote desktop going, low colours & resolution etc.. I'd like NoMachine (NX) but am having some trouble connecting. This are the steps I have taken:

1. Unzip 3x NX packages (client, node, server) on server into /usr to create /usr/NX directory.
2. Unzip client package on client.

Server:
3. Created links /etc/rc.d/rc#.d/ to /etc/init.d/

4. Modify scripts/setup/nxserver by:
- fixing user add/del commands in lines 924, 963, 984, 1032.
- comment out command in line 956 (will do manually later)
- drop "2" from authorized_keys2 in line 2573
5. Run: sudo ./scripts/setup/nxserver --install fedora
- doesn't really matter but it's the closest match
6. Change server name & SSH port in /usr/NX/etc/server.cfg (line 31, 36 & 236)
7. Allow admin logins in line 87 of /usr/NX/etc/server.cfg
8. Drop "2" from authorized_keys2 in line 337 of /usr/NX/etc/server.cfg

9. Modify scripts/setup/nxnode by:
- specify SSH port in line 43
- change to local.sh on line 1305
10. Run sudo ./scripts/setup/nxnode --install fedora
- ignoring warning about CUPS detection, I don't have a printer
11. Change server name & SSH port in /usr/NX/etc/node.cfg (line 32, 342)
12. Drop "2" from authorized_keys2 in line 186 of /usr/NX/etc/node.cfg
13. Run: sudo bin/nxserver --restart (no errors)
14. Enable the nx user account by using: sudo passwd -u nx
15. Run twice: sudo bin/nxserver --usercheck seawolf

seawolf@Felicity:/usr/NX $ sudo bin/nxserver --usercheck seawolf

Server:
16. Switch SSH/PAM authentication for the NX own auth (line 206 & 225 of etc/server.cfg)
17. Add the 'seawolf' user with the same password as my SSH key (for argument's sake):
seawolf@Felicity:/usr/NX $ sudo bin/nxserver --useradd seawolf --administrator

NX> 900 Verifying public key authentication for NX user: seawolf.
NX> 900 Public key authentication succeeded.
NX> 301 User: seawolf enabled in the NX user DB.
NX> 999 Bye.

Checks on the seawolf user are still successful but connecting results in the same failure.

As the failure is of public key auth on the 'nx' user, I created this user on the client and copied the default DSA key as its ~/.ssh/id_dsa but log-in still fails with the same error.

Any advice or pointers would be most appreciated as I've had trouble getting even x11vnc and TightVNC going! I will put this in the Remote Desktop section of the documentation if/when it's working :)
Many thanks in advance.]]>
Citadel groupware server can't start in SliTaz cooking http://vanilla.slitaz.org/index.php?p=/discussion/1878/citadel-groupware-server-cant-start-in-slitaz-cooking Sun, 10 Oct 2010 03:39:06 +0200 avamk 1878@/index.php?p=/discussions After the help this forum has given me (thanks!!), I have finally compiled and installed Citadel groupware server in latest SliTaz cooking.
However:

1) The server can be accessed via a web interface called WebCit. But when I tried to start the web interface server (its in /usr/local/webcit/), it fails with a segmentation fault. According to the Citadel help documents, this might happen if WebCit tries to bind to a port that is already in use, such as port 80 by lighttpd. I checked task manager, and /etc/rcS.conf, and lighttpd is NOT running, and it doesn't start on boot. I tried to bind WebCit to other ports, such as 2000, but it still fails. Any ideas why?

2) I would like my citadel server (binary is /usr/local/citadel/citserver), and WebCit web interface (binary is /usr/local/webcit/webcit) to launch during boot. How do I add them to the startup files? I tried to add them to local.sh, but they don't show up in top or task manager, looks like they are not running?

Thanks!]]>

History : I installed SliTaz 3.0 cooking in two old computers:

A "PII 500 MHz AMD K6 with 512MB of RAM"
Another "Intel Celeron 500 MHz PIII 256MB ram

Both computers have a drive installed "DVD Read / Write" LG brand.

Both DVD drives work well as a unit of R / W in wME (PII) and wXP PIII)

In both and I can see avi and vcd (PII and PIII) and only films in DVD in the PIII because of the limited power of the central processor of the PII.

Current Problems

In the IIP I can´t access the disc DVD files with 4.2GB of information recorded with various video formats (flv, wmv, avi, mpeg) filled .

Mount box" instead of the DVD drive mounted a "usb" 4GB or partition larger than 4GB

A data dvd with only 1.2 GB is installed any problem

In the PII and PIII the program Mplayer does crash trying to play an avi or mpeg file and note that this error commonly occurs because it was compiled on a different cpu that is using it so it generates an illegal instruction.

In the PII VLC just open the avi or mpeg file and freezes.

In the PIII , only from PcMan, read the files but not the movie In DVD

My DVD disc with 4.2 GB of data, I cant load

PcMan only reads a DVD data with only 1 to 2GB of information

I can hear from PCMan an mp3 or Ogg file in Mplayer

But if I try to read a movie from PCMan CRAH so Mplayer crash

I can't see a movie dvd from Mplayer

The DVD units aren´t damaged In PIII I can see DVD movies but from GEEBOX. And in that PII too with Geebox I can see a vcd or avis without problems

Questions:
How do I get SliTaz in PII and PIII can read a 4GB dvd information

What should I do to make Mplayer read a DVD film

Thanks

I already posted this on the Spanish forum about a week ago but couldn't get a lot of help. Please tell me if there's any rule against posting the same topic in two different languages.

Well, the point is that I can not get to boot slitaz 3.0 on a aspire one. The booting process hangs on the PCI detection stage (I think).

I have already tried the same USB on another laptop (dell e6400) and it boots OK.

I´m a newbie to linux so I do not know how to solve this.

Anyone out there that can think of something to help?

thanks in advance...

PS. Sorry for my English if it not completely right but it is not my mother tongue so I just do my best.

Ok folks... There is other parts of the world. Where internet is not "just there". Where you pay pr mb getting robbed by mobile internet operators that never drops their prices no matter how many new optic fiber sea-cables they lay ashore. Welcome to Africa. Where free software is freaking expensive and your Ubuntu update can bankrupt you.

So... The idea... Jumping Linux... Is to jump-start the distribution of Linux, Open Source Software trough creating Live CDs and DVD that will make reverse your Wlan card, as in becoming a AP, whereas people can log on to your AP and download files and Linux Operating Systems. I mean... I have the various Slitaz .iso files, incl the DVD. I dont mind setting up a Slitaz with a webserver so that files can be found in a neat interface as they now. Give the web feeling.

What is the facts here is that we live close upon each other. We don't have internet, and if it's there its expensive, slow and often unstable. So this Jumping Linux is nothing for places with XDSL and whatever delivered for nothing.

Its a third world concept.

Most Linux is first world concepts. Look at latest Puppy Linux, where the first thing you are supposed to do is to download a webbrowser. As we speak, i have thirty-something mb left on my bundle. Do I want to download anything via the net? Nope.

If it was possible to get some "out of the box" solutions that first of all distributes Slitaz and its installable programs etc. I would even consider to stream out some music and maybe offer a movie every now and then...

This could be a trend, as it can be something you bot from a USB, a CD, a DVD and then just leave it running as a "Distro Station" until machine is needed for other purposes.

Me my self could not create this even with a gun at my head, but if anyone like, I think Slitaz is quite a perfect candidate to start with if I am not wrong.

So far i have tried compiling and installing the old "pcmcia-cs" so that i could grab the Module that makes my ethernet work (xirc2ps_cs). rebooted then Tried to load the module when i seen it wasnt running

removed that software because it never worked...

so I converted an old ubuntu7 "pcmcia-cs.deb" (exactly the same software, but pre~compiled) and installed it. Tried to load the module again but without luck.

i know that software is for the old 2.4.xx kernel

so, i booted up a kubutu 9.10 live cd i have only to find that it had loaded "pcmcia-CIS" (the modern equilvilent of the prebiously tried software) AND the "xirc2ps_cs" module to make my lan work.

I rebooted again, installed "pcmcia-cis-3.2.8" and tried to insert the old "xirc2ps_cs" module again without luck

Tried to wrap the windows driver with NDIS (yeah i know thats for wlan :P ) but that was just wasted time.

Old Computer for Tuning http://vanilla.slitaz.org/index.php?p=/discussion/1785/old-computer-for-tuning Wed, 15 Sep 2010 06:55:11 +0200 grantwt 1785@/index.php?p=/discussions
Been around the windows scene long enough, but brand new to linux aside from doing a dual boot Ububtu a year ago.

I have an old laptop running windows 98, 1.27GB hard disk, 28MB RAM, and a Pentium(r) processor. The only thing I use this laptop for is tuning my truck when I go wheeling in the bush. I am running a megasquirt DIY fuel injection system.

What I want to be able to do is use megalogviewer (http://www.ideasandsolutions.biz/MegaLogViewer/) to view datalogs and process some data, but that requires Java, and it also requires a newer version of Java than you can install on windows 98.

What I want to know is will I be able to run this thing once I install SliTaz? My concern is that it has an old display adapter NeoMagic 128ZD, and other antiquated hardware that I will not be able to find drivers for if I change to SliTaz, so how do I know that SliTaz includes modules that will work?

Thanks
Grant]]>
[SOLVED] Slitaz 3 & SSL certificates http://vanilla.slitaz.org/index.php?p=/discussion/1862/solved-slitaz-3-ssl-certificates Wed, 06 Oct 2010 16:50:48 +0200 Davide 1862@/index.php?p=/discussions
- Pidgin & msn (he cannot validate the server certificate saying: "The certificate for login.live.com could not be validated. The certificate chain presented is invalid.")
- Google Chrome. He says that even the gmail.com website cannot be trusted, the usual https stuff.

I have everything such as openssl, openssh, nss installed. What is missing? thank you]]>
requesting how-to, slitaz for headless server / appliance, install on disk http://vanilla.slitaz.org/index.php?p=/discussion/1859/requesting-how-to-slitaz-for-headless-server-appliance-install-on-disk Tue, 05 Oct 2010 16:41:17 +0200 bdutta 1859@/index.php?p=/discussions
Tried out Slitaz Low-Mem on Virtualbox on a PC running 1.6GHz Processor, by allocating 128MB RAM to the virtual machine, and was amazed by what this thing could do. I'd tried other distros, most of which refused to even be installed for anything less than 512MB, and if installed, were really sluggish.

Wondering however, if someone has attempted using slightly modified slitaz for headless, alliance, server-oriented usage, where there is no need of the desktop / gui-apps, or Xwin gui of any kind (thereby reducing RAM and disk footprint even further). So installation / management is done via command-line tools alone.

Also, would like to know if it is possible to "install (on harddisk)" from the LowMem LiveFS iso image ?

My ultimate aim is to create a very lean, mean and fast Amazon EC2 AMI image, or similar cloud-hosted images. My main aim is to reduce RAM foot print to a bare minimum.

Any help / pointers appreciated.

regards,
BD]]>

Where is Trash in Wine and in Slitaz. Which is the way to clean http://vanilla.slitaz.org/index.php?p=/discussion/1821/where-is-trash-in-wine-and-in-slitaz.-which-is-the-way-to-clean Sat, 25 Sep 2010 06:57:56 +0200 fijatequesuave 1821@/index.php?p=/discussions
I´m new user of slitaz 3.0. I live in Mexico. Can you help me? PLease tell me:

Where is ".trash" in slitaz and where in "Wine" and which is the way to clean ".trash"

In Deli (0.7) Linux ".trash" is a hidden folder in home and I can delete the files from the file manager, when I was root . But I can´t see .trash from emelfm or from default file manager in Slitaz

About Wine is my first experience I dont know nothing.

Thanks for your time and reply.

Booting 'SliTaz GNU/Linux (cooking) ...

root (hd2,0)

Error 21: Selected disk does not exist

Press any key to continue...

I'm not really sure what to try... I'd really like to install SliTaz on my harddrive. I'm hoping this is an easy error to fix that someone has seen before. Thanks!]]>
