Network unreachable

I just downloaded Slitaz 3.0 stable and burned it on CD. It boots without trouble and all applications react lightning fast. The various ways of connecting to internet all fail. Pinging the router (192.168.2.1) gets the answer: network unreachable. What can I do?

Running Cooking from the Live CD -- selecting locale=en_GB and keyboard layout=uk the system boots into X but the keyboard doesn't work.

I inserted an audio CD in the CD reader/writer but no sound is coming out.
I cannot see the CD reader in any windows of the system.
How can I check wether it's recognized ?

Kernel panic - unable to mount root partition Slitaz on ext3 on USB

I want to have slitaz on my USB, but as an ordinary system with ext3. Kernel gets started, but I get a kernel panic "unable to mount root partition", kernel lists me the possible choices, but I don't see there the partitions of my USB drive. I suppose, it's because kernel is not compiled with some funcionality, which let's it to see the USB drives during the boot, is there some solution other than to compile my own kernel? Possibly some initramfs with some particular module? Could someone help me, pls? Thanks

colors go crazy on intel i810 graphic chip (Solved)

Hi, I have a Gateway solo 1450 laptop. I tried SliTaz in virtual box and liked it so I tried to install it on my laptop. However, whenever xserver starts the colors go crazy. I can switch to the tty's, and connect to the Internet, but I'm not sure what to do. I tried all the boot options for graphics, but it doesn't change anything. Can anyone help me?

OpenOffice 3 in cooking

I was attracted by get-OpenOffice3 in cooking - finally I succeded: it installs in one of the following languages en, it, de, fr, es or ru - and it is extremly quick - on my Kino Atom, which is quite the same as a Asus EEE-box - 5 sec. to open!!!
With 512MB you can run it, but its the absolute minimum - with 1 GB its fine - you can install quite a lot more.

But I just want to warn you - you need at least 2,5 GB RAM for installation (from the CD), with 2 GB RAM it failed.

perhaps, it is possible to get the same way the language files for Firefox?

MPlayer video slow, out of sync

Playing an MP4, the video runs slow compared with the audio -- it seems to run at maybe 70% of the proper speed, so it steadily falls behind. Any ideas? (I've tried the different video options, but only the x11 (XImage/Shm) driver works at all.) Thanks!

tazpkg upgrade breaks slitaz

I just did a tazpkg upgrade because I couldn't get linux-mmc modules (mmc-core, mmc-block, sdhci, sdhci-pci, etc.) to work on cooking. And it ended up breaking my install. Now I can only get as far as the text login. Xorg does not load, neither do dbus, hald, slim. The login screen shows up as "(none) login:".

Not sure if anybody else faced this issue. I will try to look into this deeper tomorrow.

New user has unknown language setting [SOLVED]

I did a "# tazlito clean-distro ; tazlito get-flavor core ; tazlito gen-distro", then reinstalled my laptop with the newly created iso. All well until I get around to fixing the new user (copy necessary files to .config, .locale, etc.). When I login using the new user account, I see wierd characters for the desktop icons, lxpanel, menu, etc. However, the right click menu on the desktop is still English, and so is the language for Control Box, etc.

I won't bother with the why, but any help with where I can change the display language would be very useful. The language setting under Control Box, Language is set to en-US. Tested this by creating different users, always the same result.

Network file sharing

What is the best way to accomplish this in Slitaz? Is there any reason to choose NFS over Samba? I would like some opinions on what would be the best choice to network two computers both running Slitaz for the purpose of sharing data. Thanks.

I think the vesa generic is too slow for 2D apps.

BTW this board rocks!...even on PCI bus.

The packages database shows it as available in the cooking. However, tazpkg cannot find it.

Wireless yet again

Initially, my wireless worked perfectly, but after saving fs once, whenever i input :
" iwconfig wlan0 essid "NAME"
iwconfig wlan0 mode managed key "KEY"
uhcpc -i wlan0 "

the only response i get is :
"Sending discover..." repetitively.

Just a note, the gui shows me the one i want to connect to, but when i double click, and input password, nothing happens.
Could you help? This always used to work before.

I'm calling for you help again because I can't figure out this problem.

I have a base Slitaz distro on which I run a particular program. It is usualy runned on a ubuntu server distro, and It is significantly slower on Slitaz than on ubuntu.

Is there something missing on Slitaz base that could explain that ? (I really don't know the cause of the problem and how to analyse it, so I'm sorry but I can't formulate a more precise question.)

The only two leads I could think about are the lack of swap on my Slitaz system -but there is no reason the program would require swaping-, and something to do with the acpi.

Any clue would be appreciated ;-)

Floppy Installation

Trying to install SliTaz 3.0 via 22 floppy images but I get stuck. Around diskette 5 it got weird. Can someone do a walk-thru on it? Preferably with screenshots? Need to install it on an old machine from 98 for granny.

Hello forum!
I was trying to add some stuff to slitaz, just to make it a bit more fun. So I decided to add flash plugin to firefox - succesful. Then, I wanted to add sound, but i needed gcc compiler. As I was surfing to the net, I found out I could do it with tazpkg. I used: "tazpkg get-install gcc --forced", but it came with an error like this: "cp: cannot stat 'fs/*' : No such file or directory". I came across this thread: http://forum.slitaz.org/index.php/discussion/680/solved:-cp:-cannot-stat-fs-:-no-such-file-or-directory. I used that solution, but ended up with more complicated error. I cannot use tazpkg anymore since I executed "tazpkg get-install tazpkg --forced". It shows this error: "/usr/bin/tazpkg: .: line 31: can't open /usr/bin/gettext.sh". Any help? :)

Changing screen resolution?

Hello. I was wondering how to change the resoluton SliTaz puts out, I am currently running a 800x600 desktop on a 1024x768 monitor, so I'm missing the majority of the screen, plus I need to do graphics design in GIMP with a resolution around 640x480 and I'm getting tired of having to move around so much. I have looked through the Preferences and Utility menus but I haven't found anything. Thanks in advance for any help, D.Kruyt.

I want to install slitaz to my hard drive. It ask to change to 3 file system but I can't as the program said that it is only for root. How do I use gparted if I can't get into the system. The programs boots from the live CD and runs great Now if I can just get it installed

Here is my problem, by reading multiple other posts i found that to save my session, i needed to make my home directory as my pendrive, and then use tazusb, so i tried to use "Slitaz home=usb". This booted into the default sda1, which i dont want. then, i found that my pendrive is sdb1 in slitaz, so i tried "slitaz home=sdb" problem is that whenever i try this, it basically tries to boot, and then it comes failed to login, and brings me to login screen. Here, tux cannot login, and only root can login. Could you please help? According to the help in the booting part, it mentions only sda (1-10) can be used, can this be a problem?

I am using the cooking version of Slitaz, and if you need any more information, please tell me what you need.

Can't change tux user name on cooking install in VirtualBox

Hi, I noticed the new cooking release and I'm installing into a VirtualBox machine.
I can't change the tux user name to one of my choice for some reason. After installation and restart when I try to login I type in the username and password then it says can't execute command and restarts the machine.
If I go to control box after installing as tux and add a new user then I can login but I don't get a desktop.

Is there something I am doing wrong? The install process and add new user is pretty straight forward but I am failing.

X server doesn't work after installation of Intel driver

Hi,

I am trying to set my screen resolution to the proper one. I use a Dell Latitude D400 and the native resolution is 1024x768. The graphic chipset is an Intel 82852/855GM.

I tried tollowing the instrictions in the "guides" section and ran "tazx", selected "intel" from the list and let it run. At the end it said there was 1 error at line 26.

When I restarted the computer, after the usuall boot sequence, I ended up with a blank screen. I used alt-F1 to get to another terminal and exchanged the new /etc/X11/xorg.conf with the old one I saved earlier, and I am back to ground zero.

So, how can I change my screen resolution to the appropriate one?
Is there no graphical utility in SliTaz to set screen resolution?
