I can't use the CD/DVD drive for audio/video as tux ...
If it's a one user environment, run it as root. That doesn't excuse the problem, it shouldn't happen but make your life easier...

Slitaz 3.0 and USB sound
I got usb speakers working last night with audacious which allows you to choose a device. Skype gives you also that option.
