Sound not working (module loaded but device node is missing)
  • pfichtnerpfichtner January 2010
    Hi,
unfortunately I can't get the sound working on my slitaz cooking. The kernel module is loaded without complains but amixer, alsactl and alsaconf can't find a soundcard

    Hi Cavalier,

thanks for your hint! I'll try it by installing the mentioned package.

Unfortunately none of the both packages did solve my problem.

If I am right the solution fixes a problem with unresolvable symbols, my problem is that the kernel module loads without errors or warnings but alsaconf, amixer, etc. cannot find a soundcard.

I had a similar problem recently. Sound modules loaded, but no sound on cooking based SliTaz.
I solved by installed the package:

    tazpkg get-install util-linux-ng-getopt --forced

    hope this help

    Hi Asimo,

    the package is already installed:

    tazpkg list | grep getopt

    util-linux-ng-getopt 2.16.1 base-system

I reinstalled util-linux-ng-getopt and alsa-utils (which depends on util-linux-ng-getopt) but nothing changed :-(

    Anyway: Thanks for your help

    As additional info, /proc/asound exists

    root@slitaz:~# find /proc/asound/

    /proc/asound/

    /proc/asound/I82801DBICH4

    /proc/asound/card0

    /proc/asound/card0/id

    /proc/asound/card0/intel8x0

    /proc/asound/card0/codec97#0

    /proc/asound/card0/codec97#0/ac97#0-0+regs

    /proc/asound/card0/codec97#0/ac97#0-0

    /proc/asound/hwdep

    /proc/asound/pcm

    /proc/asound/timers

    /proc/asound/modules

    /proc/asound/cards

    /proc/asound/devices

    /proc/asound/version

    /proc/asound/seq

    /proc/asound/oss

    /proc/asound/oss/sndstat

    /proc/asound/oss/devices

but amixer and alsactl still complain

    root@slitaz:~# amixer

amixer: Mixer attach default error: No such file or directory

    root@slitaz:~# alsactl init

    alsactl: init:1727: No soundcards found...

Is this an ALSA related bug?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

It maybe an udev bug, device are not corectly created. After boot does /dev/snd exist and is it populate ? If not, please try as root:

    # udevadm trigger

    Thanks for your comment, Christophe!

I forget to mention that I already did trigger udevadm, sorry!

Should I add an issue at http://labs.slitaz.org/issues? How can I do this?

    Thanks Peter
