kannst Du Slitaz vom Stick booten?  wieviel Ram hat die Kiste? - wenn Du sowieso einen USB-Stick willst, wieso bootest Du nicht gleich vom Stick, dann bekommst auch noch Firefox drauf

der thinclient verlangt nach einen wie auch immer gearteten Start-Laufwerk (pxe oder halt FlashDisk (=hdc)). geht nicht anders, ist im bios fest verankert. Usb wird zwar erkannt aber nicht als boot-LW, sondern nur "später".

Zu Fuss heisst: in Linux mit fdisk neu partitioniert, formatiert und gemountet. Mit der CD/Live-install das /boot Verzeichnis samt bzimage, rootfs.gz und /grub kopiert. Und dann grub ausführen. Nun wollte ich, dass das root-system aber auf dem usb-stick erzeugt/gemountet wird.
tazusb erzeugt mir leider das ganze "Programm" auf dem DOM, wofür der Platz natürlich nicht ausreicht (tested).
So, und wie sags ichs grub in der menu.list bzw. ist ggf. die hybrid-iso install die Lösung??

aber Du könntest den installer benutzen und auf /dev/sda1 (überprüfen, wie der Stick heißt mit fdisk - l) installieren ganz normal - und der Rest sollte dann schon stimmen

menu.lst könnte so gehen (mit eigener Home partition auf dem Stick)

As specified at the end of http://doc.slitaz.org/en:handbook:installation, please don't forget rootdelay option when using usb stick.

hm, so I'll try to write in english (hope Y understand my english). I'm trying to arrange a thinclient Wyse9450XP only for web-surfing. this piece of hardware work without moving parts (=absolutely no noise). But this hardware is designed for pxe/lan, so first disks were recognized as hdc. And no possible start with usb!
next thing: I want to recycle a Disk-On-Module-Chip, too. It's only 32MB, but bzImage and rootfs.gz could be/are installed on them.
Next: I don't want to create root filesystem on the DOM, no space left; my idea: why don't use a usb-stick for that? Not only home=/dev/sda1 but root=/dev/sda1, too.
In addition I need to install a web-browser, too. And there is absolutely no space left.  

hm, thats like a "start-disk" what I need. 

Conclusion: slitaz install on usb-device, BUT make a start-disk on "hdc".

"hdc"." - your conclusion is coorect, but I think I already gave you a possible solution - did you try it?  (with the addition of rootdelay=10)
