    Hi,

    Try this:

    1. install the linux-sources package. You will need it to build all VBox modules.

    2. Download the VirtualBox (http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/4.0.0/VirtualBox-4.0.0-69151-Linux_x86.run) in a temporary dirctory.

    3. Extract the files from the package:
    # sh VirtualBox-4.0.0-69151-Linux_x86.run --noexec --keep

    4. Download an apply this patch http://people.slitaz.org/~erjo/Vbox/virtualbox-install-4.0.u or download and replace install.sh end routine.sh (http://people.slitaz.org/~erjo/Vbox/)

    5. Run install.sh and... pray :) If everythings goes well you will have VirtualBox files in /opt/VirtualBox and Oracle VM Virt-ualBaox in the menu.

thanks for the info. I have doubt in the proccess. ( note that I am a newby in the linux) have install centos, freeswitch fusionpbx etc) in fact I havent install yet the slitaz 3.0 in my harddrive but I will once I have the how to virtualbox

    first question

    1. install the linux-sources package. You will need it to build all VBox modules.
Question: how I install the linux source packages. how I will know what is need for the vbox modules required

     2. Download the VirtualBox (http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/4.0.0/VirtualBox-4.0.0-69151-Linux_x86.run) in a temporary dirctory.
could you give me a example. that I will use. from how to create the temporary directory i will use the directory you told me.

    3. Extract the files from the package:
    # sh VirtualBox-4.0.0-69151-Linux_x86.run --noexec --keep
Question: could you tell me how I can get into the directory I already created in step 2 and suppouse use that command inside the directory

    4. Download an apply this patch http://people.slitaz.org/~erjo/Vbox/virtualbox-install-4.0.u or download and replace install.sh end routine.sh (http://people.slitaz.org/~erjo/Vbox/)
Question: since I would be in the empty server where slitaz is running. could you give me the complete steps to download and install the patch from the terminal ?

    5. Run install.sh and... pray :) If everythings goes well you will have
VirtualBox files in /opt/VirtualBox and Oracle VM Virt-ualBaox in the
    menu.
Question: could you give me the complete steps to run the install

Note I will use the info as you suggest with your examples to make easy

thanks for your valuable help I am very appreacita with your help

    Here are commands for:
    1. Use tazpkg gui or in command-line.
    2.. Create a directory
    3. Enter the directory
    4. download the package
    5. extract files from the package
    7. download modified install.sh and routines.sh
    7. Install VirtualBox

Note that you may be root to run install.sh. install.sh wil build kerlnel modules for you.

Open a terminal and do the following:

    # tazpkg get-install libux-sources (answer yes to install dependencies)
    # mkdir vbox
    # cd vbox
    # wget http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/4.0.0/VirtualBox-4.0.0-69151-Linux_x86.run
    # sh VirtualBox-4.0.0-69151-Linux_x86.run --noexec --keep
    # cd install
    # rm install.sh routines.sh
    # wget http://people.slitaz.org/~erjo/Vbox/install.sh
    # wget http://people.slitaz.org/~erjo/Vbox/routines.sh
    # su
    # install.sh

thanks so much for your time I will this thanks a lot
  • quboqubo January 2011
    Hi Again.

I install slitaz  on my hard drive I made the vbox directory and download the vbox puel.   but havent install yet. since as you recommend I did the tazpkg get-install linux-sources. it then appears that was downloading something. it never ask to install anything as you said (answer yes to all install dependencies) when downloading something last line said

Unable to find linux-sources in the mirrored packages list
Unable to find get-linux-sources in the mirrored packages list

so my questions is how I know if installed already or not and how to install them since it appears the unable to find......
thanks so much I am almost ready to install only this missing step
  • seawolfseawolf January 2011
Try simply tazpkg get-install linux-source without the "s" It was downloading the list of packages available on the repository and then looked for linux-sources :)
  • seawolfseawolf January 2011
(Double post, this forum s/w badly needs a rollback to when it worked!)
  • quboqubo January 2011
ohhh nice seawolf it is working and downloading right now thanks for your fast answer

  • quboqubo January 2011
    HI I follow this

    # tazpkg get-install libux-sources (answer yes to install dependencies)
    # mkdir vbox
    # cd vbox
    # wget http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/4.0.0/VirtualBox-4.0.0-69151-Linux_x86.run
    # sh VirtualBox-4.0.0-69151-Linux_x86.run --noexec --keep
    # cd install
    # rm install.sh routines.sh
    # wget http://people.slitaz.org/~erjo/Vbox/install.sh
    # wget http://people.slitaz.org/~erjo/Vbox/routines.sh
    # su
    # install.sh

but after put su and install.sh it appears root@slitazQubo:~/vbox/install# install.sh
    sh: install.sh: command no found

  • quboqubo January 2011
I did the sh install.sh and install it. it is said that is installed into opt/virtualbox the icon for running appears in System Tools and then oracle VM virtualbox.  I clicked on it but the virtualbox never run
hope someone could help me with this in order to make it work
  • Trixar_zaTrixar_za January 2011
Start up xterm and tell me what you get when you when you type the command virtualbox
It should spout errors that will give us an idea of what might be missing.
  • quboqubo January 2011
is there any terminal that accept copy-paste to copy the error ?
  • quboqubo January 2011
or give me your email and i will send the screenshots. I tried to upload as attach a file but it stuck with uploading..... but never upload they are 136kb only
  • Trixar_zaTrixar_za January 2011
I use sakura terminal myself - makes copying and pasting easier. You could also try uploading it to tinypic or twitpic. Both offer free image hosting.
  • quboqubo January 2011
I did the virtualbox command in xterm terminal and it show this

WARNING: The vboxdrv kernel module s not loaded. either there is no module available for the current kernel (2.6.30.6-slitaz) or it failed to load. Please recompile the kernel module and install it by

    sudo/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup

you will not be able to start VMs until this problem is fixed
    ps: invalid option -- U
BusyBox v1.12.0 (2010-03-12 18:25:03 CET) multi- call Binary

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

by the way virtualbox can run ( i needed to  install 2 missing packs) I create or try to create (install OS) it allow me to set the settings but It does not allow me tu upload the OS iso. or dont know how to add source OS iso. I suppouse is because the above error i previously put.
  • quboqubo January 2011
when I try to create the vm OS and click on Run it appears a error popup

    p, li { white-space: pre-wrap; }

    VERR_VM_DRIVER_LOAD_ERROR (rc=-1910)

The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. Please reinstall the kernel module by executing

    '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup'

as root. Users of Ubuntu, Fedora or Mandriva should install the DKMS package first. This package keeps track of Linux kernel changes and recompiles the vboxdrv kernel module if necessary.

  • quboqubo January 2011
I use the recommend install as /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup

    then it show
unistalling old virtualbox DKMS kernel module....done
removing old virutalbox netadp kernel module...done
    removing old virtualbox kernel module......done
trying to register the virtualbox kernel modules using DKMS.....failed
    recompiling virtualbox kernel modules.....done
starting virtualbox kernel modulessleep: invalid number .2.....done

  • seawolfseawolf January 2011
If it compiles the modules successfully, load them manually with:
    su -c '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv start'
    by entering the root password.

BusyBox's "sleep" command only takes whole seconds, so the 0.2secs fails... it's so stupid it hurts!
  • Trixar_zaTrixar_za January 2011
Well, the real sleep comes with the package named coreutils-command if it helps
  • quboqubo January 2011
so what I can do in order to make it work without every time to load manually ? notice that i am newby

    thanks for all
  • quboqubo January 2011
I still have issues. thanks seawolf the load manually command works fine thanks however I still need to do each reboot.

is there a clean install for virtualbox that work out of the box in slitaz without any problem. if yes could you post a HOW-TO

or if possible how to install proxmox with 32 bits in slitaz if someone has installed (32 bits) could share that info
    thanks for all
  • seawolfseawolf January 2011
You can add "vboxdrv" to the Menu > System Tools > Control Box > Initialisation > Run Daemons box to start the driver at boot-up.

I'm pretty sure the get-virtualbhox script patched the files so these problems wouldn't appear, but I think it only works with VB v3.
  • ErjoErjo January 2011
    @qubo:
virtualbox will work out of the box in the next release of Slitaz.
Now i use Slitaz v3 and Virtualbox 4 with not so much issues.
Try to use my vboxdrv init script. I can start, stop and setup with no issues.

    http://people.slitaz.org/~erjo/Vbox/vboxdrv

    @seawolf:
Yes with VB 3 but no more with VB 4. Have you got VB addition for sliTaz ?
