  • SaxSax March 2010
I have a unused swap file space from around 320 Mb on my hard disk.

Should I delete it or can I use it like a swap ?
It's a old PC, so i try to use every Mb.

Forgot to explain, I'm not running out of space.
And if necessary in the future i can enlarge the Ext3 space
(I don't use Windows mush on this system ;) )
I keep downloads on a separate usb disk.
So if possible I prefer yo use it like a swap if it extend the speed or stability from SliTaz.

Many of us still earn a buck thanks to Micro$oft ;))
If you have a gig or more RAM you'll likely never use the swap.
Type free to see how much memory you have available.
To create swap subox gparted find the drive, highlight the free space, right click Format to,choose linux-swap,click apply.

So it's automatically used like a swap.
    Nice ;)
Is 320 Mb enough I have only 512 Mb ram and i don't think am gonna find such old ram to upgrade to 1gig or more.
Now everything works smoothly but i am planning to install xampp and red5 to make a flash server from this system.

Soooo long time i didn't use linux anymore i forgot there is a fstab file :-)
    The swap file is used
    Thanks

Yup, all the swap partitions in /etc/fstab are automagically activated during boot, particularly the `swapon -a` command in /etc/init.d/rcS file :)

These days usb flash drives cost almost nothing.
I bought me a 8Gb micro flash drive 1Gb is formated for the swap file the rest is formated for the htdocs files (server) the fstab and lampp configuration have been edited to mount these drives at boot time.
So I have a swap and a server on a ram drive, this means speed ;)
