problem with tazpkg
  • feardisappearfeardisappear February 2010
    howdy,

firstly thanks to everyone who has helped with this awesome distro. i just installed stable 2.0 and it's been very easy to set up. however, i have encountered a problem with which i need help.

everytime i try tazpkg get-install packagename i get outputs like this one:

    Copying libnotify-0.4.4... [ OK ]
    Extracting libnotify-0.4.4... 28 blocks
Extracting the pseudo fs... zcat: fs.cpio.gz: No such file or directory
rm: cannot remove 'fs.cpio.gz': No such file or directory
Installing libnotify... cp: cannot stat 'fs/*': No such file or directory
    [ Failed ]
Removing all tmp files... [ OK ]

these errors occured on every dependency when i tried

    tazpkg get-install xine-plugin

    and

    tazpkg get-install gecko-mediaplayer

in order for tazpkg to see gecko, i ran

    tazpkg set-release cooking

was it a mistake to to do set-release cooking on my stable install? i'm wondering what could be causing these errors. i should mention, i also had problems with the get-flash-plugin script. i got this error in the output:

    /usr/bin/get-flash-plugin: cd: line 53: can't cd to install_flash_player_10_linux

this was before running tazpkg set-release. i was able to manualy copy the libflashplayer.so plugin file to my firefox plugins directory which allowed it to work. i'm stumped on xine and gecko though. i'm hoping to get a working quicktime plugin installed.

thanks for your help and consideration. cheers.

    You must update tazpkg.

    tazpkg get-install tazpkg --forced

I had the same problem and that fixed it. New compression method. You'll likely have to upgrade everything installed to

    thanks rupp, your suggestion worked!

    i ran

    tazpkg get-install tazpkg --forced

then removed all the packages from the failed installation attempts of gecko-mediaplayer and xine-plugin. then i reinstalled them and they worked! unfortunately, i went through several media players and couldn't find a reliable one. i'm still working on it though...

Media plugins for browsers have been problematic.

Jf_ recommeded to look at projects like swfdec.
