slitaz extremely slow on laptop
  • BorisBoris January 2010
    Hello community, I have installed slitaz on my second partition of the first and only harddisk. When i ran the liveCD slitaz was very fast but since it is on my harddisk the computer runs very slow and the CPU usage shows quite often 100%. But the features of my laptop are far above the minimum requirements for this system. I have 900MHz and ram of 256MB with an additional linux swap partition of 150MB. Can anyone tell me why the Computer runs so slowly ?

    Hello Bosis.
    Terminal ->#top > top.txt. Wait 2-3 sec., then Strg+c.
    top.txt is a shapshot from list processes.

    Particularly firefox is busying the CPU. Especially Flashvideos are a problem.

    Firefox is a very memory-intensive browser. It's big.
    Flash has never played well with Linux; it works but IMHO it's more of a port form other OSs than a true Linux-based effort from Adobe.

    Try using a lighter browser solution and see if your CPU usage is lower. It may be using swap memory on the hard disk to make up for not having tons of real-life memory.
