I have installed the newest (cooking) version xf86-video-intel (2.11.0) though tazx.
Upon starting Xorg under the Intel drivers, I get the following error:

I've looked up the kernel modesetting error and tried i915.modeset=1 on the boot line, but the most that does is change the resolution of the shell I'm dropped into.
Alternatively, the vesa driver works but is somewhat unstable, hence why I'm trying to run the Intel one. Any ideas?
No problem, it's only there if you know it's there and you go looking!
Some monitors change the positioning between drivers or indeed OSes, so if it's at a different resolution to any other OS, your monitor should remember the customisation to its setting.
