Network problems
  • frEmnfrEmn July 2010
In an effort to get my wireless working, I've inadvertently broken my ethernet also.

First off, I'm a Linux noob.
I didn't create a backup of my rcS.conf before I started editing (lesson learned). I deleted the ssb entry from "load module" as per a forum discussion on dell wireless.

I've given up on wireless for now and simply would like to get my wired connection back up and running, but don't know how to restore the rcS.conf ssb entry.

    any help is greatly appreciated.

    thanks for the reply, yrjhjjuk.

I don't understand how linking the packages will help me with my ethernet?

Broadcomm b44 depends on ssb. bc-wl conflicts with ssb.try b43 instead.
    Open xterm
    subox tazctrlbox

Initialization tab,Load modules:, add/remove module name, click Change button,Exit, reboot
    Please post the output from:
    lspci

    if you require additional help

    current "Load Modules:" says - snd_intel8x0 snd_intel8x0m 3c59x yenta_socket ssb

Just to be sure, what part do I need to add? what part do I need to remove?

Before I make any changes, lspci output read as bellow

    Don't remove any modules.
3c59x is your ethernet module depends on yenta_socket and ssb.
The snd_intel8x0 snd_intel8x0m are for sound.
To get your wireless working follow this:
