Issues with Broadcom wireless
  • ms3811ms3811 June 2010
    I have been trying to get my wireless interface running with no luck.

    Followed the instructions I found elsewhere on this forum:
    - installed b43-firmware and b43-fwcutter
    - installed linux-wireless
    - loaded the driver through wifibox
    - lsmod shows the b43 module loaded
    - edited network.conf to activate wifi at boot

    But I don't see any networks in the list nor does iwconfig show any wireless extensions. Any direction would be very helpful. Thanks.

    I did notice the following in dmesg:

    udev: starting version 150
    HDA Intel 0000:00:1b.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 22 (level, low) -> IRQ 22
    HDA Intel 0000:00:1b.0: setting latency timer to 64

    Ok, turns out the chip in my wireless device is only supported with kernel 2.6.32 and later (http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#Known_PCI_devices). I know I had this working before with Slitaz, I remember using the wl package from http://people.slitaz.org/~jozee/packages/.

    I now have the package downloaded from the repos. Wonder if this package is different?

    So, getting rid of module ssb solves the issue! For whatever reason, when ssb is loaded, the wl driver just doesn't work.

Howdy, Stranger!
