The Title "Booting Problem after Each Fresh Installation of SliTaz 3.0" said it all.

Details:

Everytime I install SliTaz on my PC (P4 @ 3.0GHz - 512MB RAM - 20GB IDE HDD), I got the same problem and I have no idea how to fix it.

Introdution:

1) As you know, you can't install SliTaz unless you have created the needed partitions for the installation process.

2) Everytime I start GParted, I found out that GParted detect my HDD as "/dev/hdb".

3) The HDD which I'm using is a Primary Slave. That might be the reason why SliTaz is always detecting it as hdb but let me tell you that with other Linux Distributions and even with Windows, I don't have any problem at all. It's always "sda" with other Linux Distributions and Windows does not complain about the HDD being Slave at all.

After Installation:

4) Directing after the first reboot when the installation process is done, I got the GRUB Menu so I choose SliTaz which is the ONLY OS installed in my PC but then I got this error:

root (hd1,0)
Error 21: selected disk does not exist
Press any key to contiune . . .

5) In order to boot and login into SliTaz, I have to do this:

a) From GRUB Menu

b) Press "e"

c) Highlight root (hd1,0)

d) Press "e" again

e) From GRUB edit> root (hd1,0)

I have to change it to root (hd0,0)

f) Then Press "b" to boot.

6) I got Slim so I Press Enter after I see my login Username then Enter my Password.

7) Once I login into SliTaz, I got to the Main Menu > System Tools > Control Box

8 ) From the First Tab:

Confg file: /boot/grub/menu.lst

then change: root (hd1,0) >>> root (hd0,0)

9) Save, Exit and Reboot.

10) Problem Solved.

Now, I know it's "solved' but ... it does not make sense to do this "everytime" I have to install SliTaz.

There MUST be another fix for this issue.
Is this a bug? or this is how SliTaz works?

NOTE THAT: If I plug any USB Drive into my PC, GParted detect it as "/dev/sda".

So, what's going on here?

Thank you!

P.S.
Again, it happens only with SliTaz. I have no problem with other Distributions whenever I try to install any on the same PC.

I was made aware of Slitaz by a friend of mine and now I would like to look into the (g)PXE install possibilities of Slitaz.
Therefore I downloaded a LiveCD image (stable) and wanted to follow the PXE guide found under documentation.
Unfortunately, I stumbled right into the first problems:

-> I can't set a fixed IP address within the Static IP tab of the Netbox Manager. :-(
-> There is no Server tab shown in the Netbox Manger. :-(

Am I doing anything wrong or do I need to use a differend LiveCD?

Cheers,

Installed slitaz in vmware which all went awesomely by the way and that isn't the problem. My problem is after I reboot I still get prompted to configure X, configure my langue, configure my keyboard, and to configure x sesion at boot up. This is after I installed it. Is there a way to just have it preload? I do know that the ISO from the this website will not ask you again after install. I also know I can make my own copy with aircrack but its been done. I think it would be easier to fix the boot, and it would allow me to learn something else new. My question is how do I stop the boot configuration and preaload my settings? Is there a script I can edit?

Dell Inspiron 3000
233 MHz Pentium MMX
208 MB RAM
2 GB HDD

I'm connecting to the Internet using a PCMCIA wireless card. Firefox will get on the web and browse just the way it's supposed to, with one exception: I'm having lots of strange problems with Google-related services (web search, image search, anything associated with Google).

I can access www.google.com. However, while the page will display, it will never fully load. The status bar will show "Waiting for www.google.com..." forever. Then, if I try to follow any of the links on the page (the one that says "About Google," for example), nothing will happen. It will start loading, but get stuck at "Waiting for www.google.com" and never display.

So far, I have determined that this problem is related to the cookies that Google sets. If I disable cookies in Firefox altogether, Google will load and the links will function correctly. However, with cookies disabled, there are still some Google pages that will never display (including, ironically, some sections of Google's support site). Note that simply going into "Exceptions" under Firefox's cookie settings and blocking www.google.com will NOT work. Cookies have to be completely disabled in the browser.

Two pieces of evidence lead me to conclude that this is not a Firefox-specific bug. Firstly, Midori exhibits exactly the same behavior. With cookies enabled, all Google services are completely FUBAR. With cookies disabled, things get better, but some pages still refuse to load. Secondly, neither browser exhibits this behavior if I run the SliTaz live CD on my newer desktop system. Both browsers load and browse Google pages with no problem on this system. Thus, the problem is tied neither to Firefox nor to SliTaz. It has something to do with my Inspiron 3000.

Again, on my Inspiron, I can browse any site other than Google, even comparatively complex ones such as Amazon and eBay. Some of my earlier investigations pointed towards IPv6 being the culprit. However, as SliTaz's IPv6 module is not installed, I can't see how it could be causing problems. Considering how much I depend upon Google services, this is kind of a big deal. Does anybody have any ideas as to what is going on here?

Cant find Curl-Config? http://vanilla.slitaz.org/index.php?p=/discussion/2395/cant-find-curl-configs Mon, 10 Jan 2011 16:59:09 +0100 j0sh 2395@/index.php?p=/discussions Hello,

i need to install pyCurl on my maschine. to do this i installed the curl-dev package from the repo and python.

but now i must specify the path to the curl-config and i cant find any configfile...

below a cut from the installinstructions:

NOTE: You need Python and libcurl installed on your system to use or
build pycurl.  Some RPM distributions of curl/libcurl do not include
everything necessary to build pycurl, in which case you need to
install the developer specific RPM which is usually called curl-dev.

Distutils
---------

Build and install pycurl with the following commands:

    (if necessary, become root)
    tar -zxvf pycurl-$VER.tar.gz
    cd pycurl-$VER
    python setup.py install

$VER should be substituted with the pycurl version number, e.g. 7.10.5.

Note that the installation script assumes that 'curl-config' can be
located in your path setting.  If curl-config is installed outside
your path or you want to force installation to use a particular
version of curl-config, use the '--curl-config' commandline option to
specify the location of curl-config.  Example:

    python setup.py install --curl-config=/usr/local/bin/curl-config

First of all, let me just tell you I discovered slitaz GNU/Linux three days ago, have been playing with it ever since and am quite impressed (my basic needs for text editing, internet access, photo, video and sound have all been successfully fulfilled). It is among one of the few distros that got working correctly with my old Fujitsu Siemens Amilo M6100 laptop and runs very very smoothly.

I don't actually know if this is the correct place to set this information up (regarding the actual topic subject), but it may help others (it was intuitive for me to come to this forum, so it may be for others too), so here goes.

I've seen some discussion about 1024x768 (and other) resolutions in the slitaz GNU/Linux 3.0 distro and I've been tampering with my xorg.conf file quite a bit these last few days (basically ever since I installed the distro - because this was one of my initial "major" problems - I had only a 800x600 resolution, that left a border of about 2 inches on each corner of the screen, and could use the distro, but still something was missing :-)). I've read mostly all the posts obtained by searching the keywords xorg, siliconmotion, screen, resolution, fujitsu, siemens and m6100 on this forum and none of them correctly satisfied me, but they gave me good ideas on where to look for things (there's a link to a vesa/xorg document in the site that was also helpful and also some sites that I reference below in the xorg.conf file example). One tool that always restored my initial configuration to 800x600 (and thus allowed me to play around with xorg.conf) was tazx. In other linux distros I'd usually be forced to keep an xorg.conf.bak or something file in my home dir to prevent unwanted mistakes :-)

The xorg.conf file is attached to this message (I know, it's nothing fancy!, but it works for me!). And if I understood the ABI error for the siliconmotion driver better (that I "ported" from Debian GNU/Linux with tazpkg convert) I'd even substitute vesa with siliconmotion (don't know if that makes for a big difference though).

Will eagerly wait for slitaz GNU/Linux 4.0 now :-)

Thanks.

Compiling TrueCrypt 7 http://vanilla.slitaz.org/index.php?p=/discussion/1781/compiling-truecrypt-7 Tue, 14 Sep 2010 15:37:30 +0200 ms3811 1781@/index.php?p=/discussions @Payoon at:

Bunch of issues. 7 seems to have more dependencies, it requires xorg-libSM-dev and xorg-libICE-dev to be installed (which in turn required to be installed using the --forced option, not sure why kept throwing some errors). Now "make WXSTATIC=1" throws errors with Assembling Aes_hw_cpu.asm and fails with an "expression syntax error".

At this point, can't seem to go any further (I'm not really an expert in compiling stuff). Giving up, unless anyone is interested in walking me through this (hint, hint).]]>
font hinting byte-code interpreter enabled http://vanilla.slitaz.org/index.php?p=/discussion/2389/font-hinting-byte-code-interpreter-enabled Sat, 08 Jan 2011 07:40:55 +0100 michaelkbischof 2389@/index.php?p=/discussions is the font hinting done on Slitaz (it uses freetype, yes?) done with the byte-code interpreter enabled or not?
I tried to do what I have been accustomed under Mandriva and apply a libfreetype6-plf-rpm, which improves the fonts there quite a bit, by using ,,tazpkg convert *.rpm *.tazpkg" but that failed under Slitaz 3.0.

Therefore this question.

Yours sincerely,

Michael
