After installing some much needed tools for somiling "gcc, libc, siltaz-toolchain" and at the configurations request "flex and pkg-config" i have run into a wall.

The source code it looking for a variable in pkg-config to help locate GTK; This is the error:

>>> Checking for GTK... configure: error: Package requirements (gtk+-2.0 >= 2.0.0) where not met: No Package 'gtk+-2.0' found. Consider adjusting the PKG_COFIG_PATH enviroment variable if you installed software in a non-standard prefix. Alternitivley, you may set the enviroment variables GTK_CFLAGS and GTK_LIBS to aboid the need to call pkg-config. See the pkg-config man page for more details.

'pkg-config --listall' command has output this:

>>> shared-mime-info shared-mime-info - Freedesktop common MIME database

Can anyone help me compile this and possaily share the package with other users? :D

BTW: does anyone know howto copy and paste from xterm or know another term which can? (that was a long error message :P)]]>

Caps Lock, when activated, won't turn off upon the next pressing of the key. First of all, pressing Caps Lock illuminates the Scroll Lock indicator on the keyboard as well; the subsequent keypress does nothing; the next turns off Scroll Lock, while leaving Caps Lock lit; and, finally, pressing it a fourth time returns the keyboard to its original state. Hm, and the Scroll Lock button appears to light nothing. I was hesitant to ask this at first, because I thought it was just a jenky old keyboard with a non-responsive key, but the patternedness to this leads me to believe it's not just Caps Lock sticking - it's more than an issue of just having to punch the thing a few times to get it to work.]]>

Can a user send a message to another Linux box connected to a network besides using SSH and wall ? Neither user has any IM account online, and the program should be able to run without an internet connection.

Now here's the tricky part:
Can both computers do this without either of them being a server (peer-to-peer)?

Oh yeah the absolute Newbie Feature is now available on SlITaz. You are vowed to Windows but cannot admit it and try to be cool on Linux ? But you are afraid of typing every single command line because you know Daddy will break your neck if you break the Comp`Beast that he bought to himself last Christmas and did *not* allow you to tweak with EvilNux ?

Thou are saved, Gentleman of The Newbish Attitude: trash-can is nice, trash-can will save your soul and keep your neck as nice as when you mother looked at you for the very first time, her eyes full of tears of happiness.

In clear: whatever your push in trash-can is kept until you clean it, no twisted use.
Just think to use trash your-trash-to-get-rid-of rather than rm [-f] your-trash-to-get-rid-of

Trash-can will allow you:

- to get an eye on its content, regardless of knowing where is the trash-can directory,

- clean it,

- keep a log of trashed files/directory (if directory: not of its own contents),

- clean this log,

- output the trash-can or the logfile path

Trash-can will probably allow you:

- to save Amazonian forest,

- to build a better world for your children.

Can you still hesitate ? Adopt Trash-Can, it is Magic, it is Safe, it obeys better than a dog.

How should I change this to delete tux as a user and get david as 1000:1000?

I tried setting up david as above.
Then copying across all files from /home/tux to /home/david , which I found during a Google search.
Checked david was set as owner and group.
Tried loggin-in but now I can only boot as root. Neither tux nor david work with the message
"Failed to execute logging command."

Can someone advise what I should do.

I'm not quite sure what "composite" does, under the right-click "Desktop Effects" Openbox menu, but I figured that and "shadow" had something to do with making things "prettier" - which would be nice, being as prettiness is why I was initially looking at "bigger" distroes. However, anytime I pick either "Activate composite" or "Activate shadow," X comes to a screeching halt. I can move the cursor around, but not much else; CPU Usage Monitor freezes. Don't know if anybody else is having this bug, er, feature, and it's not a big deal to me, but figured I should mention it.

Also, I'm just gonna stick this here, since I couldn't justify starting a new thread given that nobody's gonna know the answer. ;) The "spider menu" on the left side of the LXPanel, the not-Start menu, how do you edit its appearance? I don't mean the stuff in the main menu (which is why it's been so hard to google an answer to this) but that spider icon itself.]]>

I have just installed slitaz and its very nice. I am moving from windows because its too slow/bloated/insecure. I am however having a few problems getting everything how I would like it. I have listed them below in order of priority (highest first). If anybody can assist me I would be most welcome as I am a complete linux newb. Thankyou.

1) google earth says it using software rendering because it cant find a video driver and all the text are back squares. So I download ati linux driver for my 9600 but during instilation I get message "Error: ./default_policy.sh does not support version
deafult:v2:i686:lib::none2.6.25.5-slitaz; make sure that the version is being correctly set by --iscurrentdistro"

2) In preferences > screen size there is no option to choose the native resolution for my monitor which is 1440X900

3) my hercules fortisimo 3 7.1 pci card is not detected. Slitaz insted only sees my onboard sound chip which does work but is only 2 channel and I cant find any linux drivers for the fortisimo, what should i do?

4) My drives do not automount on startup. I have to click on them in pcman file manager for them to mount. How do I enable automount on boot?

5) I have added lots of progams to application launch bar, as a result there is little room for task bar. How do I put one above the other, or have app launch bar at side of screen and task bar at bottom?

thanks]]>

I installed mplayer, mplayer skins and mplayer codecs on slitaz usb. But somehow no matter which video file I try to play, whether it is .avi, .mp4, .mkv, .rm, .rmvb etc, I get this message on mplayer: "Error opening/initializing the selected video_out (v_o) device". What does the message mean? Also, then I installed xine-ui and xine-lib. I could open the video files but the videos are lagging, especially .mp4 and .avi videos with the 720p ones. Why is this happening?? Is there any way to overcome the above problems?

Please, help me solving the video playback problems in mpalyer and in xine. Thanks in advance.

I am new to slitaz. I just installed slitaz on my usb and there are lots of things I am not understanding. I tried to connect to internet using 'pppoe-setup' command on console but it asks to go for 'root' first. I don't know how to use console as 'root'. What is the command for using console as 'root'. Before I can make any changes in system it asks for 'root' password. What is the 'root' password? How do I use any program or software on slitaz as 'root'? Also how I save changes (i.e., persistence) to slitaz on my usb or on my hard disk?

Please, give me some suggestions regarding the above confusions. I am seriously having trouble using slitaz. I really like to use and work with slitaz but the above problems are giving me pain.

Thanks in advance.
