I've just installed the "slitaz-loram-cdrom-sqfs.iso" on my TI extensa laptop (166 Mhz, 48 Mo RAM).
The /boot/grub folder exists, with a menu.lst file.

But when the computer starts, nothing happens... even the GRUB menu isn't displayed.

Any idea to solve this ?

Thanks for help -and for this wonderful distro- !]]>

pcmcia / cardbus networking not working http://vanilla.slitaz.org/index.php?p=/discussion/361/pcmcia-cardbus-networking-not-working Wed, 30 Dec 2009 10:28:38 +0100 cannonfodder 361@/index.php?p=/discussions
Everything seems to be working fine except for networking.

This laptop has a Netgear PCMCIA ethernet card.

The result of lspci, relative to networking:

00:11.0 CardBus bridge: Tezas Instruments PCI1131 (rev 01)
00:11.1 CardBus bridge: Tezas Instruments PCI1131 (rev 01)
05:00.0 Ethernet controller: ADMtek 21x4x DEC-Tulip compatible 10/100 Ethernet (rev 11)

The result of tazhw detect-pci:

> Module in use: yenta_socket
> Module in use: yenta_socket
> Module in use: tulip
! Missing module: ac
! Missing module: battery

Results of ifconfig (as root) indicate only one interface, the loopback (lo).

I have configured /etc/network.conf for a static IP but the default DHCP didn't work either.

I know the Netgear PCMCIA card is fine because it works in Tiny Core.

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.]]>

I've done some research and found that some linux users have had success serving to samsung TV's with MiniDLNA. I've not had any success installing the MiniDLNA application onto my Slitaz machine by decompressing the tar.gz and running the executable from the terminal.

It would be great if someone who's got more linux/slitaz knowledge than me could put together a tazpackage to do a proper install. These samsung TV's are likely to become pretty widespread.

Slitaz Cooking 20092212 Feedback http://vanilla.slitaz.org/index.php?p=/discussion/344/slitaz-cooking-20092212-feedback Sun, 27 Dec 2009 17:22:24 +0100 Casey 344@/index.php?p=/discussions
Let me first start by saying Slitaz is an amazing little creation. The usability/versatility of this tiny iso, its responsiveness, everything about it, is truly mind boggling. This unique mix of features also make it a perfect fit for a USB based persistent backup linux for when I'm on the road and faced with using locked down Windows boxes.

On to feedback:

1. Love the inclusion of a real package manager. Compared to other small footprint distributions, this is a huge boon, not to mention it eases the transition from more full featured distributions for new users. Trying to figure out the mess of dependencies from custom Puppy linux .pet files will quickly convince you of the usefulness of a proper package manager and rich, up to date repos.

2. Love OpenBox as a WM - it offers a beautiful environment and does JUST what it advertises, allowing the user to choose their own panel/launcher/tray applications to suite their needs.

3. I think dropping Xvesa and moving to Xorg - as seen in the newest cooking builds, is a good idea, particularly since the size difference doesn't seem that big - newest cooking "snow" isos are still under 30mb. Support for more resolutions will be welcome - 1440x900 displays we're the bane of my little USB Slitaz stick.

4. Tazusb - a great tool, but it's been broken the last 2 cooking builds - works fine in the official 2.0 release - can't seem to find a particular file from the LiveCD on both cooking 20091104 and 20091222. Using the windows tazusb.exe works however - not ideal, but it's a workaround.

5. The Xorg using ISOs do not work on any of the 3 boxes I've been using for testing the liveCD. Startx fails in all cases and fallback options are limited to 800x600 xterm console or "install Xorg" - I thought Xorg was pre-installed? Also, Slim appears to be disabled in all cases, forcing me to use the startx command. I am about to burn the Xvesa ISO to see if that one works.]]>

I've been unable to get my BCM4311 working under SliTaz cooking-20091124. I updated it with the for tazpkg install of three packages from ~jozee (linux-2.6.30.6.tazpkg, linux-wireless-2.6.30.6.tazpkg, and the broadcom-wl-.10.91.9.3_2.6.30.6.tazpkg). I did a "tazusb writefs" after that to write the updated root to the USB drive. The behavior is still the same. wl loads fine but no wireless device shows up in dmesg (other than the module load), iwconfig, or ifconfig.

Did I get the packages from the wrong location?

Here's the output I'm seeing from iwconfig/ifconfig/lspci/dmesg. Is here anything else that would help to diagnose?

Thanks,

Jon

The situation is as follows: I have the liveCD version booting just fine from an XD card inside my camera (which is doubling as a card reader) as I dont have any usb thumb drives laying around. I have 8 hard drives of various sizes on multiple controllers and I wish to tie together using LVM ontop of software raid 5. I ran a couple simulations in VMWare to be sure that this setup would work and I did not encounter any showstopping problems.

However now that I am actually building the raid arrays, I am running into many problems. Just building the first array (~80 GB in size) took about 2 hours at a very very slow speed of about 8MB/s. Raising the min and max limits had no effect whatsoever, nor could I find any reason for it being so slow on my hardware. While trying to diagnose the problem, I found numerous errors and warnings in dmesg about interrupts being lost and DMA mode being disabled at random:
