ok, im running pclinuxos as my main os. if i dual boot slitaz will it still run as fast as it does when its running from the cd or will it run just like the linux i have?

yes, I know that busybox "sort" of provides it already - but for me, i'm specifically looking for a specific option to 'ls' that i want to use, that busybox does not provide already. Namely '--time-style'. I've searched packages already - no fileutils. Any plan to provide that? (or a package just for 'ls')

infinite loop at boot: "/sbin/getty: error whille loading shared libraries"

So I updated the kernel yesterday to 26.1.30 or whatever the new one is in cooking, along with a bunch of other packages, and now i am getting this problem with this infinite loop.
The complete error message is
"/sbin/getty: error whille loading shared libraries: e: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory"
seems like there is some link that is bad, it should be /usr/sbin/getty I think? Is there any way to stop this infinite loop?

i must be the biggest idiot. seems like everyone can get flash to work. ive tried get-flash-plugin ive tried tazpkg get-install flash-plugin ive tried the repo. whats the deal? it says i already have it installed but no flash plugin is detected...

Heya - first time (very happy) Slitaz user, beginner-intermediate linux user. :)

I was wondering if anyone else had any experience getting rt2500 wireless modules going/compiled? I'd give it a go - but the documentation for the project seems... eh. There's also no tutorial specifically for Slitaz. Is there an easier way to snatch these rather than going gung-ho on the github and trying to figure out a mad bunch of dependencies?

Hi, i'm new to linux so maybe that is the problem but i'm running slitaz from bootable USB and i want to run aircrack with it. So i have slitaz running, i am logged in automatic and i can do settings for screen and keyboard. Then i open terminal and i type "startaaoath0 but i get "-sh: startaaoath0: not found". Same when i type "airmon-ng". I have run the "lspci | grep Wireless" command and i got this :

What can i do??

According to what I saw, such a support already exists for cooking.

What are all the modules I will have to compile to obtain such a support ?

Among them, I think that linux-video package will give me some : v4l2 ...

Has anyone experienced trouble with TazLito (cooking) building Live CDs? It seems that LZMA may be the culprit as its only happened in the past couple of weeks.

It seems the compression is failing as the file-system is successfully generated beforehand & MD5 is generated afterward. I don't see why memory should really be an issue as the 512MB RAM has been easily successful.

Hello !

UTF-8 support is not fully achieved in Slitaz-Cooking. Among other things nano, contrary to less or vim-tiny, don't support UTF-8 in Slitaz, while it supports it pretty well in other distros. In order to understand this, I have tried to compile it from this source. Running ./configure produces the following message. The next steps "make && make install" run without problem, but the resulting program /usr/local/bin/nano doesn't support UTF-8, exactly as /usr/bin/nano. Very probably this message means that nano's compile option 'enable_utf8' is turned off due to this problem.

configure:10684: WARNING:
*** Insufficient UTF-8 support was detected in your curses and/or C
*** libraries.  If you want UTF-8 support, please verify that your slang
*** was built with UTF-8 support or your curses was built with wide
*** character support, and that your C library was built with wide
*** character support.

I have no idea how to do such verifications, but it would be nice if someone could do it. Hopefully, it may help solving other UTF-8 issues for Slitaz.

Can SliTaz play youtube videos on a 700 MHz desktop?

I have a 700 MHz desktop computer, 512 MB RAM, 20 GB hard disk. When using SliTaz, is 700 MHz fast enough to play youtube videos smoothly? If so, which SliTaz ISO file should I get?

At the present time I have Mandriva 2010.0 installed. It works for some things but playing youtube (with Firefox + flash plugin) is problematic. Sound is OK but many video frames are dropped and the videos appear as a series of still images.

I'm a newbie at Linux, I've done some dabbling and I program some but I'm defiantly a newbie when it comes to linux. Ok, so my problem is that I'm trying to configure a wireless card to work with Slitaz, but I can't for some reason. I'm using a Dell Inspiron 2500 with 700MHz and 256MB RAM. I'm using a Linksys "Wireless G Notebook Adapter" -Model number WPC54G ver 3. Slitaz is installed on the hard drive and everything works fine -except the wireless card. I followed the guides for configuring the wireless card but I couldn't use it. Any help would be appreciated!

Remastering

I have tried to remaster the Slitaz Solutions from the CD. I have tried all the options possible, so I tried this:

now I have the compressed directories and I can remake the rootfs in my development system, however I have a problem, I am unable to login as tux when I remaster the system, root works OK.

USB Booting

I have tried several times to get the USB to backup the running system back to the USB, but at logout I get no prompt to do so. I know the USB is writable because if I rum the tazusb it will create it and I can writeit back to the USB,however if I go that way I loose the tux user.

Can someone point me in the right direction.

problem with Xorg in Cooking-Snow versions

Whenever I attempt to run a Slitaz-Snow version (except the Xvesa one) the screen is always 800x600. I prefer something larger. I donot have this problem with 2.0 or older cooking versions. I suspect they are running Xvesa.

Another problem is with the Net-Surf browser. It can't do java-script so I can't get to my web mail. More and more websites are going to java-script so any browser that can't becomes useless.

USB Flash Boot

a 64 mb flash stick boots fine;
a 512 mb (a 1gb, a 2gb, etc.) NOT !
- probably a motherboard problem.
at boot, the smaller stick is recognized by the BIOS
as USB-HDD, the bigger ones as USB-floppy -
the opposite of what would be 'logical' to expect.
both sticks were formatted FAT under ms-windows and
both received a new MBR written by the SLITAZ ' ~ make-
usb-boot-utility ' under SLITAZ-live cd .

any ideas for a workaround ?

p.s. : much praise for SLITAZ`s sleekness and leanness -
it fits my needs for a fast-to-boot 'internet appliance'.

I did just try to follow the instructions for the slitaz "sexy desktop" but I don't get the wbar to work.
When starting it in the terminal with: wbar it responds: error while loading shared libraries: libImlib2.so.1 : cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
What am I supposed to install to get it to work properly?

generating slitaz usb using tazlito gen-distro

I have the new slitaz cookbook 2.0 (upgraded) installed on my harddisk everything works fine except when I try
to generate a live usb using tazusb gen-iso2usb
I have generated a new image using tazlito gen-distro with the original distro-packages-list without any problem
If I burn the iso to a cd everything works fine but if I install the image on a live usb than I have the following kernel panic

Seems that the kernel is not recognizing the usb device after unzipping the rootfs.gz

Note that this was working in the previous version 2.6.25... I just want to upgrade to the newest kernel and
upgrade a new image that I use with my students

Slitaz on Flash : Ext2/Ext3

Hello,

I'm currently working on a small PC104 computer.
I use SLITAZ as its operating system. It is installed either on a USB Pen drive or on a DOM (disk on module : flash memory accessible via IDE), the file system I chose was ext3. I know that ext3 is not a very good idea for Flash memory but the system is supposed to endure hard electrical reboot and uncareful treatment and the journalisation seemed a good solution even though it would lead to Flash's memory death.

I'm faced with a problem that has proved unsolvable for a year. At one of our clients, the filesystem slowly but irremediably goes bad. At first, a few files are unreadable, then the filesystem will only be mounted readonly and finally it refuses to be mounted and the system can not boot at all.

I tried ext2 but thing are worse than ever, each reboot (even when it is cleanly rebooted), the e2fsck command has something to correct and mainly erases the files contained in my .e directory that contain the configuration of e17.

I'm now out of solution so if anybody has an idea or an hint, I would be glad.

Cooking is not ready to be served

Although the live CD runs fine, the tazusb (and tazlito ?) taz-format seems to work, but
tazusb gen-distro
fails to find .../boot/isolinux/*.inc and cannot continue.
I've tried this on multiple machines, using multiple CDs (md5 sums checked) and no dice.
In IRC discussions, I have heard tell of other people failing at the same point, also using tazlito.

please fix !
