Tazpkg gets error on install

First off, I'm kinda new to Linux but not that new. Im having a problem getting tazpkg to install a downloaded tar.
The file I'm trying to install: (aircrack-ng-1.0.tar.gz)
And the codes:
tazpkg install *.gz
cpio: unsupported cpio format, use newc or crc
/usr/bin/tazpkg: .:line 2167: can't open /tmp/tazpkg-4602-3054/receipt

I've tried lots of different ways but am stuck, all files have been updated to their latest versions. Oh I LOVE Slitaz, it works great off my thumb drive!

I would like to know if it would be possible to make a stripped out Slitaz in aim to obtain a light MediaCenter ?

The new Geexbox 2.0 weights more than 30 MB . (Slitaz weights the same but do much more ! )

So what about doing a Slitaz mediacenter flavor of ~ 15 mb ?

I've noticed leafpad doesn't display file names properly and (heavens above) mpd gives off a
path: invalid filesystem charset: iso8859-1 error.

#G_FILENAME_ENCODING=iso8859-1 in /etc/profile seems to fix?

SOLVED: Swap file

SOLVED why cryptsetup does not support libdevmapper?

I wanted to encrypt my home directory in transparent mode with luks, but cryptsetup gave me this error:

Command failed: No setup backend available

.
Googling i think to have find out that cryptsetup was compiled without the

--enable-libdevmapper

option.
Converting the Archlinux cryptsetup package in tazpkg format and installing it let me do all the required step to have my home directory encrypted with luks.
Is there any reason to not enable libdevmapper in cryptsetup?

I've got it installing samba or trivial things like lbrekout2.

When i try to install software using the SliTaz Packages Manager there is this massage in the xterminal

wrong keyboard in X

I am using a Belgium keyboard
when the system starts up the keyboard is correct but once i am in xwindozs the keyboard changes to qwerty
it is the fourt time i reinstalled slitaz this night, is there a virus in this dist or >>>i can not write the rest don$t find the correct keys

I followed the other threads on printing, seems I need the foomatic packages, but they don't seem to be in
the repository for 2.0. Still learning this form of linux (slackware oldie). Is there any other place to find the packages, my laserjet1200 is USB-connected, but Cups doesn't appear to see any usb connections in the config page. I already installed the usbutils package but that didnt help. Thanks!

gcc-4.4.3 make error--HELP!!!

I am working to build a gcc-4.4.3 for c/c++ and java. I have worked a few hours and still getting stuck. I need some help on this issue.
The steps I followed are:

1. downlad the gcc-4.4.3 package and uncompressed.
2. mkdir objdir, then cd objdir
3. ../gcc-4.4.3/config --enable -languages=c, c++, java
All the steps works fine so far.

4. make BOOT_CFLAGS='-O' bootstrap

I got the following error:

There are currently two almost identically named flavor files in the .../slitaz/packages/cooking direcory (justX.flavor and justx.flavor). Are those meant to be both there or could it be the result of a typo?

Dual Boot XP

Hey,
Here Goes...
I installed Xp first on hda1. Then Slitaz on hda3 with home on hda4.

On the first rebbot after install the computer staright away loads Xp. (No Grub).

If I change the boot drive from hda1 to hda3 I get an error saying "error loading OS" (No grub again).

Using Gparted I changed the flags on the partions and am currently stuck with only XP (which was meant to be a backup for "Office Docs").

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Xorg Intel on low memory system

Hallo,
i've a big problem with Intel X.org driver:

- I've some 256 MB RAM Systems running Slitaz (cooking) as ThinClient by netboot without HD.
- The Intel-Driver claims 128 MB of memory, resulting in very low memory for applications.
- The old i810 driver had the ability to limit VideoRam in xorg.conf, but the new Intel-Driver does not.
- I tried to compile (tazwok cook) the i810 from slitaz stable on cooking, but this fails on error.

Has anyone a idea how to limit memory usage of intel driver or how to compile i810 driver on Slitaz cooking?

Hi everyone,
I downloaded Vlc from slitaz website, and i tried to install it.
It begins by installing the dependencies, and it comes to VLC, i get the following messages:

Copying vlc-0.9.9a... [ OK ]
Extracting vlc-0.9.9a... 1690 blocks
Extracting the pseudo fs... zcat: fs.cpio.gz: No such file or directory
rm: cannot remove 'fs.cpio.gz': No such file or directory

Hi, I am helping build an OS lab for our "poor" faculty. We have only 1-2 high-end servers, and about 25-30 low-end PCs (256-384M RAM, 1.6 GHz CPU). The OS lab is mainly for the OS Practicum course which is based on Minix. We want Minix to run on a virtual machine, probably Qemu, which itself runs on a GNU/Linux host OS. We choose Slitaz for its lightweight and speed. But at the same time, we don't want repeat installing-configuring every PC. So the last possible solution is booting through network from a server. Then my question is:

Is it possible to configure a Slitaz server so that as many (as 30) client PCs boot from the server at the same time and run Qemu and then Minix? I have no experience of setting up a server. An even more silly question, can these client PCs run X programs at the meantime?

Any suggestion/link is appreciated. Thanks.

wmii is a super-light-weight tiling window manager (similar, but lighter than awesome) that is very fast and keyboard friendly.
Slitaz already includes come related components, it's me new favorits, and I wish it came bundled.
(it would compliment OpenBox and jwm nicely)

Sound problem

Hi,

I've been using Slitaz for some time now, but I've a problem I've not been able to fix: sound.
It's strange because it worked before I upgraded to the last cooking version.

When I type alsamixer in the commad line window, I get the following error:

tux@slitaz:~$ alsamixer
cannot open mixer: No such file or directory

I've added tux to the audio group just in case.

I've noticed the following warning/errors when I boot Slitaz (log from /var/log/boot.log):

[solved] lxpanel sementation fault when booting laptop without a battery

I have slitaz installed on several laptops, and lxpanel works fine on all of them when the battery is installed at bootup. If i boot up with the battery and power-cord both installed, and then remove the battery and leave the power-cord plugged in, lxpanel also runs fine. But when booting with the battery missing, lxpanel tries to start but then disappears, and the error logs show that it is caused by a segmentation fault. 

I read on an Ubuntu forum that this was a bug in lxpanel 0.5.3, which is the one currently used in slitaz, and that it was fixed in lxpanel 0.5.4. Can we upgrade the lxpanel tazpkg to 0.5.4?

I was looking for help getting my video drivers to work (nouveau) and it appears that they only work with X.org 1.7.
Does anyone have a reciept or is willing to help me make one?
I believe I have working reciepts for libdrm-git and xorg-xf86-video-nouveau, but that nouveau one dies, claiming it needs X.org server 1.7.

List of features/thoughts/criticisms

We are starting to prepare for 3.0. To make 3.0 better, I am trying to make a list and consolidate some of the features/thoughts/crticisms discussed on forums. This will help Slitaz-devs to make 3.0 easier for newbies/new-converts. Some of these have already been addressed. 

Here are some of the things I remember: 

Better Hardware Support would be great:


- Some extra driver (Wireless, Webcam, Modems, Proprietary Drivers like ATI, nvidia)
- Maximum Netbooks out-of-box- support (resolution, wireless card, easy to install)
- Printing and Scanning Problem
- Udev and Hal can create some device permission problems



Software

- Easy way of converting packages from other Distributions such as Debian to Slitaz
- Software pkgs in Repos lacking in certain categories such as Games (e.g., Chess)
- Fix all broken packages in repos


Improvements/New Slitaz tools: 
- Easy creation of customized CD (Tazusb seems to be easier than Tazlito. Can tazusb dump everything on liveCD too?)
- Lack of easy Power management 
- Firewall (iptables) frontend


Upgrade
- "Tazpkg Upgrade" should be more smooth so that people are less afraid that software will be broken after upgrade
- Live CD Iso size is dangerously increasing 


Flavors 
- Flavors are underutilized. New flavors can highlight Slitaz strengths and also cater to different needs  
 , e.g., an X-org flavor  or a full-distribution with maximum out-of-box functionality

	

Once the list is finalized, I will add it to Labs issue tracker.



Slitaz on 64bit Athlon?

Hello, nice distro, curious if anybody else is running Slitaz on 64bit machines. This is one of my first live-cd distros, so far it's a learning curve. No luck installing the Flash plugin in Minefield, it tries to auto-install but I get
this message :"/usr/bin/get-flash-plugin : cd: line 53" and then "can't cd to install_flash_player_10_linux"
Flash on 64bit mozilla has been problematic until recently released linux plugin from Adobe.
Also, using the usb-stick to store home, but install-to hard drive has failed so far. I'm still working on that. Slitaz is fast on the web. I'm working on 2.0 stable now but also have the cooking ISO "on the back burner".


Firefox freeze with Xorg

Since I installed the Xorg server, Firefox freeze my laptop, but when i check the task manager it's the Xorg process that takes all the resources.
Before Xorg, Xvesa server worked fine with firefox, but videos use to work slowly.
Does someone, have a solution for that.
I have ATI graphic card.

Help!  Parallel port #1 not listed in CUPS

Hi!  I am trying out Slitaz again.  I am determined to find a small, light, fast Linux, and I like the general look of Slitaz.  I just need to figure out how to get my stuff working.

And first on the list is to get my printer working.  My printer is a Hewlett Packard LaserJet 5000.  It's an old printer that I bought brand new (with the cool duplexer) back in 1997 if I remember correctly, and it has been my workhorse for these 12 years.  I love this printer.  But I am having trouble getting it to connect.  More specifically, when I boot Slitaz, CUPS can't find the parallel port.

I noticed that when I boot Puppy Linux and install CUPS, I can install the printer on the parallel printer port #1.  But if I install Scribus before I install CUPS, then I can't see the parallel printer port #1 in the list of devices in CUPS.

In Slitaz, I install CUPS first, but I never see the parallel printer port.

So does anyone have any ideas what I am doing wrong or what I need to do?  Do you need any additional information?

I am running a Celeron 1.7GHz processor with 384MB of RAM, and no hard drive.  I am booting from the Slitaz or Puppy Linux Live CD.
