I've tried to install slitaz to my laptop with the live CD. When it says "unpacking initramfs" the installation stops.

My computer is a compaq evo N400c with PIII-M 850 MHz and 256 MB RAM - so actually slitaz should run.

There already have been a discussion about this kind of Problem (http://forum.slitaz.org/index.php/discussion/22/manual-install). There it was suggested to order the data sets in the ISO file in a new way (as far as I understood). There it says that "linld.com, slitaz.bat and slitaz.cl must be in the same folder", but I couldn't found the files.

I've just installed wicd.
1) I think it lacks pygtk as a dendency, the client give a "no module named gtk" error. Works installing pygtk.
2) The shebang in /usr/sbin/wicd and /usr/bin/wicd-client is #!/bin/bash, so it give a "not found" error if bash is not installed, as in my slitaz. Works changing the shebang to #!/bin/sh.
Thanks for the package, and for slitaz too, it has replaced arch in my usb key :-)

I am a newb at this but im managing fine....My Only Problem now is i have been trying to get online with my Verizon 3g phone... i downloaded and installed the 3g packages from jozee i cant get wvdial to install because file libwvstreams.pc is not in the packages_config path i have wvstreans but dont know what to do with it. i have to use windows for internet so it is hard to tell you excactly what is going on in my comands..i will read some more threads try some things and hand write a log and update my post later.

how do you make that yellow command box in the posts..I'd like to join the ranks..lol

goal is work towards my offensive security expert certification

havent messed with linux since middle school and the "Hacker" movie crazy.
Great movie though..

Any help would greatly be appreciated....

I know that i'm supposed to mount my liveusb partition as home, but now i don't want to do it because:
1) i'm still searching to understand well slitaz and how to encrypt all or part of my data in /home
2) i really like to boot a pc and put my usbkey in my pocket leaving the os loaded
So i'm using a liveusb key with /home in the rootfs and everytime i save the rootfs with "tazusb writefs lzma" i
copy the new rootfs in the boot directory of my usbkey.
After some failed autologins i found out that /usr/bin/tazusb does not save the files in /home.
I've modified it to my needs:

		# Create list of files
		find /bin /etc /init /sbin /var /dev /lib /root /usr >/tmp/list

		#if home is on a device don't save it, if it's in rootfs save it
		if /bin/mount | /bin/grep -q home; then

When i finally will make up my mind on where to put /home on a device i will mount the device somewhere, copy there the files in /home, remount it in /home and save the rootfs.

I have attempted to edit /etc/network.conf without success.

I can choose either eth0 or eth1 to connect with success but not both.
In e.g. Ubuntu /etc/network/interfaces does it differently _but_ it works.

liveusb on a ntfs filesystem - grub2

If you for some reason (as the 4 Gb file size limit of vfat) want to have a live usb on a ntfs filesystem you can use the grub2 bootloader. I write how i did it until i can (almost) remember:
start the pc from the slitaz cd (or iso in virtualbox)
as root mount your ntfs partition under /boot. your partition could be different from sda1 if you have more than one disk, so be very careful about what you type on the keyboard.

mkdir /boot
mount /dev/sda1 /boot

then remove grub and install grub2

tazpkg remove grub
tazpkg get-install grub2

now install grub2 in your MBR


grub-install --no-floppy /dev/sda

if you got a "embedding area too small ..." error read this http://osdir.com/ml/grub-devel-gnu/2010-01/msg00287.html and leave some free space before your first partition. i left 1 Mb but probably i've been a lot abundant. now create a grub.cfg file in /boot/grub/ and put this inside it:


set timeout=5

set default=0

change the options in the linux line to reflect your needs.
now you could reboot if it wasn't because i forgot to do a tazusb gen-liveusb in the start. if you do it now then you must reinstall grub2 in your mbr because slitaz would install another bootloader wich does not work with ntfs, so i did this:

mount /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom
mkdir /boot/boot
cp /media/cdrom/boot/bzImage /boot/boot/
cp /media/cdrom/boot/rootfs.gz /boot/boot/
sync
reboot

Ebox 3300 Network Driver Instalation

I have Slitaz installed in my Ebox 3300.
Everything works well besides the Network card.
I found in this site the driver.

I downloaded and I have 2 files: Makefile and r6040.c

But I dont know to install..
Can anybody help me step by step to install this network card ?

Sound card detection on startup

I have an EBOX 3300, and this computers don't have any sound card.
When I boot, there's a message saying not sound card found and Build database drivers.
How to disable this ?
I don't want to setup sound card in my EBOX.

Save changes to USB?

I followed the instructions here: http://www.pendrivelinux.com/install-slitaz-to-usb-from-windows/ and typed "slitaz home=usb" at boot. It creates a tux folder on the computers hard drive and stores all the data there instead of on my USB drive. How do I fix this?

Sorry for such a newb question.

I am trying to get started with Slitaz and have not been able to get my display to function properly.

I run Slitaz from a usb stick. It boots fine but with the wrong resolution. My graphics card is ATI Radeon Mobility x1600 1680x1050x24. I attempted to install what I thought was the proper driver using the package manager but have had no success. Perhaps I need to install more Xorg components.

Any advice much appreciated.

Serious module issues with intel DRM

DRI is not working on my Aspire 3680 laptop... Turns out it's because of this:

I'm not sure what exactly this means, but I think the issue may be that certain modules have to be recompiled against the current kernel. Whatever is going on, DRI is absolutely not working at all. :(

chinese characters display/input on SliTaz 2.0

Hey, I'm fairly new to SliTaz 2.0. I am satisfied with the English version of the OS and have no intention to get to a fully Chinese OS as I am not so familiar with the Chinese characters. But I would like to know how can I at least install a software that can allow me to view Chinese characters or type the words. I've tried WINE and SCIM but I still can't view Chinese words. Does anyone know the commandline for it?

I do the system and runs without X, I have a intel 945GM on my toshiba nb200, and in the kernel I compile the i910 module. (2.6.33 kernel)

When I put the Xvesa -ac .... command, I have a black screen, I try with a Xvesa newer like the 4.8.0, I try with diferent video modes...

What Can I do? Use Xorg instead Xvesa?

hello everyone ... my first post on the new forum ... (and i really miss all the great info that was on the old one!)

i have a compaq armada laptop from around 1997, with a floppy drive but no cd or usb. i was able to ssh an entire installed slitaz 1.0 filesystem from another laptop onto this one, and it actually works.

but the only wireless card which i have for this machine is a cisco aironet 350, and i cannot find a driver for it for any 2.6 kernel. i'd like to upgrade to a newer version of slitaz but need to connect to the internet to do that. can anyone help?

Yes. Slim will setup to auto-login a user but not bypass the password phase.

Eventually a kiosk so logins are unnecessary :)

In Ubuntu for example all that is necessary is to edit /etc/gdm.conf with "AutoMaticLoginEnable=true" and "AutomaticLogin=UserName".

*** Solved: Menu - System Tools - Control Box - Login Manager tab to yes to auto login and then click Change.

pisa (xhtml2pdf) not working correctly for me

I just installed xhtml2pdf on my Toshiba Satellite A215-s5850 laptop. The help says to use this command:

pisa

and also states that wildcard characters (*) can be used. I tried it with both a URL and a locally saved set of webpages using the * wildcard, and it appears that nothing happened in both cases. When i tried it with a single webpage URL, it worked, but converted a long section of "pre" preformatted text (a code listing) into a very tiny font ... and it was really slow.

Any help with the problems with wildcard or font-size?

I bought a new Motherboard and a DvD-Burner and attached my old hard disks to it with slitaz-2010-firefox installed.
Now my Ethernet-Connection doesn't work. I know that I need to change the drivers to make it work but I don't know how.
I didn't test it yet, but maybe you could tell me if I have to install the new DvD-Drive, too.

[solved] - "could not allocate physical memory" error in wine, qemu, virtualbox

Having done a complete system upgrade a few days ago, now none of my wine programs nor my large virtual machines will work, giving me error messages about not being able to allocate memory. I had no problems with these before the upgrade. The host machine has 2 GB of RAM.

Wine gives this error and will not run at all:

preloader: Warning: failed to reserve range 00110000-68000000
wine: failed to initialize: /usr/lib/wine/ntdll.dll.so: failed to map segment from shared object: Cannot allocate memory

Trying to run my Windows XP virtual machine in VirtualBox, it starts with the black XP boot-up screen, but then when i try to login, i get an error dialog-box with this message:

Unable to allocate and lock memory. The virtual machine will be paused. Please close applications to free up memory or close the VM.

with ErrorID: HostMemoryLow

But i never had a problem with this machine before, with exactly the same configuration.

Results in qemu are similar. I tried running my Windows XP qemu machine with varying amounts of memory, having varying degrees of success. It booted fine with RAM amounts up to 320 MB (but was extremely slow), but when i tried 336 MB, it seemed to boot to the desktop ok, but as soon as i tried to open Task Manager the whole machine aborted and i got a segmentation fault error. If i try to run a machine with a larger amount of RAM, i get this:

"could not allocate physical memory".
