How to shutdown the system in terminal?

There is no 'shutdown' and command 'halt' will not turn off the power.

my serial mouse doesnt works. please some drivers.

i get the welcome screen..but i cant do nothing cause my serial mouse isnt working.
how can install drivers for it? (i can put the hard drive in another computer to install somethin from there)

Hey,
Here Goes...

I installed Xp first on hda1. Then Slitaz on hda4 with home on hda3.

On the first rebbot after install the computer staright away loads Xp. (No Grub).

If I change the boot drive from hda1 to hda4 I get an error saying "error loading OS" (No grub again).

Gparted always shows the two partitions as Etx3 while whenever I try to install the Slitaz installer will show all my partitions as NTFS

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Autologin problem

Hi, I have "autologin" option in syslinux.cfg file and I'm getting "failed to execute login command" message when desktop is loading. I have to login manually as a root (tux without password doesn't work). I created liveUSB out of slitaz-3.0.iso and added Qt packages. I had liveUSB with autologin working with previous version of SliTaz. I can post log files, if that helps.

Slitaz 3.0 using Xorg does not support my video.

Slitaz 1.0 and slitaz 2.0 supported my video card.

Slitaz 3.0 switched from xvesa to Xorg and suddenly i have no xwindows.

After checking I find that the i752 (intel 82815) chips are not supported by Xorg.
Also there are other people complaining on the web of this, just google i752 & xorg.
I can use slitaz in console mode only. Is there anyway to fix this?

Firefox simple mail doesn't work

Reported before but nothing happened.
Now in v3.0 repositories it's still the same.
Installing firefox simple mail 2.7.2 it reports it's incompatibe with firefox 3.5.7

Menu>Preferences>Panel doesn’t seem to do anything.

Menu>System Tools>Manage Printing doesn’t do anything.

I've noticed that if i select:
Menu>Graphics>edit images
Menu>Internet>Chat
Menu>Multimedia>Watch Video
or
Menu>Office>Write documents
it doesn't run an installed app but starts tazpkg to download the apps. eg
in Menu>Graphics>Edit Images it downloads inkscape and gimp.

I think this is a new way of working with v3.0 and frankly I think it's a backwards step as:

1. it forces me to download apps I may not want. eg gimp if I only want inkscape
2. it keeps a menu item "Edit Images" which runs inkscape and adds another menu item called inkscape.
Same for the other menu items.

Also with Menu>Multimedia>Watch Video it tries to install gnome-mplayer which doesn't work
and reports missing "/usr/lib/firefox-plugins".

I find it would be better to begin a new forum subdivision for SliTaz Linux 3.0 instead to mix old problems and new expects together!

What is you opinion about that.

I would propose to rename the actual subdivision "English-general" into "English-old versions" and to create a new subdivision "English-general" for SliTaz Linux 3.0.

Good afternoon !

I have been a Macuser for a long time.
I never used Linux.
But I heard about Slitaz and saw it loaded on a friend's PC.
I liked its lightness and efficiency a lot.

I tried to make a LiveUSB for my PC (a HP/Compaq Mini 311c) from Windows XP using this guide :

(sorry, no english version available for this guide AFAIK).
The ISO I used is the cooking 20100314.

I think, this step worked OK.

Here is my situation :
I start the PC in BIOS mode, pick the USB flash disk option and hit < CR >
Then I get the Slitaz "Boot baby boot" "Splash image" and a "boot:" prompt.

I tried to
- just hit < CR >
- write "slitaz irqpoll" and hit < CR >
- write "slitaz sound=no" and hit < CR >
- write "slitaz screen=text sound=no home=USB irqpoll" and hit < CR >

No matter what I just typed, I always have the same result :
the booting process goes on until it displays several lines with a yellow [ OK ] and blocks right after displaying "* Loaded module: snd_hda_intel"

By the way, a Mini 311c does NOT have an Intel audio, but a nVidia.

I am stuck there waiting for your help ! :)

any idea how to install an network Printer? In this case a Brother MFC-790CW? The Printer is connected to my Router and has a static ip. Do i need to compile driver from brother? I do not know how....

I know this might be a total beginners question but any help is appreciated.

installation problem

Installed Slitaz 3.0 to a partion on the hardrive. Modify existing grub with an entry suggested in the menu.lst
found in the /boot/grub folder. Rebooted machine and then received a grub error message "bad file or directory". Any help?

SliTaz Linux kernel version 2.6.30.6
Pentium MMX 166MHz
6GB HDD
32MB RAM
Intel Corporation 82557/8/9/0/1 Ethernet Pro 100 (rev 02)

Problem:
Every time I want to try and load up the Internet with it, I type ifconfig, and see just lo. However, inputting ifconfig eth0 gives me all the info about the interface (sans LAN IP, etc). running udhcpc doesn't work, I keep getting SIOCSIFFLAGS: Resource Temporarily Unavailble every time.

I just installed Damn Small Linux not too long ago (then switched over to SliTaz, which is what I'm using now), and was able to get Internet off of it, so I know the card works. I did some googling on the Resorce Temporarily Unavailable issue, and apparently this error is due to the plug-n-play setting enabled in the BIOS. I disabled that with no luck, I STILL get this error (and the Internet was working in DSL, even though PnP was enabled). My Ethernet card lights light up, my modem lights up when I plug it in, but it's just not working! Is there some kind of module I have to load, and if so, which one would it be? Thanks for the help.

I am trying to get the sound up and running either on Slitaz 2.0 or 3.0 but without any success so far. The laptop in question (a pain in the a** really but a nice shade of pink, My daughter's!) is a dell inspiron with a hda-intel 8280 1h (ich8 family) hd audio controller.

I have run soundconf and the card details regularly appear. Alsa mixer is working but there is no sound at all, not even a squeek. I have managed to get Slita 2.0 up and running on my old Acer Aspire 1300 but alas not with the dell yet.

I have also tried Jozee's linux-sound package but still no result,...yet!

SliTaz 3 and nvidia set-up

Congratulations and thanks to all the devs for Slitaz 3. First impressions are very favourable.

However I need to change the resolution of my screen as it's too small.

I have an nVidia GeForce FX5200 graphics card which usually uses the 173.x.x driver.
I notice that if I use #tazx I get the choice of vesa or nv.
Selecting nv and running #X -config /root/xorg.conf.new gives
Fatal server error.
So does selecting vesa.

When I tried Menu>SystemTools>Hardware Detection and drivers. I selected nvidia and saw that it installed the 190.42_X driver
which I don't believe will work with my legacy card. This does add NVidia X Server Settings in the Prefernces menu
but this says "You dont appear to be using nvidia x driver." It suggests runningnvidia-xconfig as root. But still can't see how to change
resolution. Then after I reboot it only goes to a cmd prompt and won't start an X window.

I want 1024X768X24 but adding vga=791 to my grub stanza doesn't do anything.

Help/suggestions please.

Hi Slitaz boots enter root then passwd, then startx error no screens etc dbus something. What is wrong tried on both laptops no work.

Is there any equivalent for Midori than the about:config

nglayout.initialpaint.delay of Firefox ?

This option display the requested web page only after Firefox downloads and put
together all the content of the web page .

For exemple, a picture will be displayed in 1 time (under a delay of x milli-seconds) and not part by part ...

It's very more REACTIVE with this option and I will be very glad to have the same on Midori

Suggestions for 3.0

I'm really looking forward to the release, but I hope a couple of things have been fixed.
One is that I think there should be a default button that is pressed by hitting the Enter Key on most dialog boxes. It saves reaching for the mouse all the time.

Perhaps permissions for the cdrom device could be set automatically so that Burnbox works "out of the box"? Also, the help button does not open a help file. Browser shows "file not found".

Of course it would be great if xorg could autodetect the graphics chip & monitor and autoconfigure resolution on startup (or at least offer more than 800x600).

Network configuration never works for me. Seems it won't set a static IP address. I always have to do it manually. Maybe it's just me, since I don't see any discussions about it.

Are we still on track to release the 28th?

I am having dificulty trying to figure out how to Swap the alt key with the Super "Windows Logo" Key.
I am using slitaz with wine and photoshop installed on it, but there are some features in the photoshop tools that
Require the Alt Key to be used, for example the Clone Tool and the Pen Tool. The Problem is that when I press the Alt Key, A little Spider appears and the window moves. In ubuntu and linux mint, this can be easily solved in the Window preferences menu, you just swap the Alt key with the Windows Logo Super key.
I'm pretty sure this can be done in Slitaz, but I don't know how. Can anybody tell me how to do it?

I use SliTaz on my PC Dell Latitude PCx, 700 MHz, 256 MO and it's a pleasure :)
My problem is :
- I managed to install my Olitec PC Card wifi card with ndiswrapper and netmw121.inf driver.
- In terminal I type modprobe ndiswrapper and use the "wireless connexion" app in the menu to connect.
- All is OK

How can I do, not to have to type "modprobe ndiswrapper" in terminal and use the wireless connexion app at each boot to use my wifi card ?
Is it possible to make all automatic ?

I have a huge concern here but for days now ive been re-searching for a solution.

Ok heres my problem im running dialup & i have a win-modem its a smart link 56k to be exact. I have seen the linmodem-slmodem
package & wvdial. The only problem is their in.tazpkg. format. How would i be able to de-compress these offline so i can install them?

would i need to download a de-compressor in another format and extract that with a command line code?
if anyone can help me please let me know because i really wanna start enjoying SLITAZ.

Hi,

I succeed to install the latest version (lowram) on a old laptop (126M Ram) and it work fine, but i have a very strange problem with network interface (eth0).

Dhcp is ok
traceroute / ping www.google.fr is ok
but wget http://www.google.fr is NOT OK > DNS solve but it like it have no packets on return .? !

is anaybody can help me, i have no good idea now !

The network access is ok with a new laptop ;-)
