Can't get touchpad to work on netbook

I recently installed Slitaz 3.0 on a new netbook I got. Everything works except for the touchpad. It is a Synaptics touchpad V6.5. I tried installing the package Xorg-xf86-input-synaptics, but that didn't work. Has anyone had a similar problem? Thanks.

Ethernet is not connecting

This should be easy and I know I have gotten it working before, but I'm stuck.

I plugged the ethernet cable in before booting, but when I try to ping the router I get "Network is unreachable".

If I say ifconfig -a I get a list of interfaces including eth0, and it's shown as UP BROADCAST RUNNING etc. etc.

My /etc/network.conf has INTERFACE="eth0" and DHCP="yes" and STATIC="no".
I guess these may not apply to DHCP, but NETMASK="255.255.255.0" and GATEWAY="192.168.0.1" and DNS_SERVER the same. I checked the router with another computer and that's the right gateway address.

I clicked the Start button in netbox and it goes gray for several seconds, but there seems to be no effect.

This & That, Part I

Last night I tried to post a comment that I had written in Leafpad. For some reason, pasting it into the forum editor with the mouse didn't work but ctrl-v did. But then it turned out that my average size posting was apparently 557 characters too long. Some of my previous comments and many of the other users' comments had been much longer, often containing sections from error logs and such things, but they could be posted without any problems. Why all of a sudden these stupid restrictions? Really, communication becomes ever more difficult on these pages since people have started to 'improve' this forum.

Last night I opened my posting with praise for Slitaz and for the people who are toiling away at this gem of a distro behind the scenes. In the interest of brevity I'll skip the nice bits this time. I'll also post the few points I want to raise in installments to make sure I won't get trapped again by the idiotic new limitations. So, off to Part II .........

how to install vmware tools ?

I'm trying to install vmware tools on a virtual machine created from slitaz stable 2.0, with additional packages from the stable 2.0 collection. I have vmware workstation 6.5 and i've followed this guide (installation on slackware) : http://www.cs.ucr.edu/~jbyrne/vmware.htm

In order to run the install (vmware-install.pl) and config scripts (vmware-config-tools.pl), the following packages were needed : perl, glibc (for ldd), make, gcc, linux-source, as well as these directories in /etc/ : init.d, rc0.d, rc1.d, rc2.d, rc3.d, rc4.d, rc5.d, rc6.d, pam.d

Now, when I try to run "vmware-config-tools.pl --compile", i'm stuck at the point where the script looks for the "c header files that match the running kernel" :

/usr/src/linux/include => "path doesn't exist"

/usr/src/ => "path is a kernel header file directory, but doesn't contain linux/version.h as expected"

/usr/include => "the directory of kernel headers (version @@VMWARE@@ UTS_RELEASE) does not match your running kernel version (version 2.6.25.5-slitaz)"

Anybody has an idea?

Has somebody tried to install "ath9k" patch (fixed channel mon0: -1) for aircrack-ng 1.1? I have tried as here: http://www.aircrack-ng.org/doku.php?id=compat-wireless
I have install "bash", "make" and all nessecary components, unpack and apply "compat-wireless-2.6.37-4.tar.bz2" and "mac80211.compat08082009.wl_frag+ack_v1.patch" and "channel-negative-one-maxim.patch". Maybe I took wrong module? But with "compat-wireless-2011-03-19.tar.bz2", "make" not work - Error 2. Can somebody help me? Slitaz is my first linux-based OS.

Clementine can be downloaded in rpm, deb, tar, tar.gz... so, i must install manually this packages but i haven't internet ADSL, only a Modem 3G (GSM/UMTS)...

Hi Guys,

i am really an newbie to linux (just knowing the basics) and in need for your help.
the lspci command returns the 8192SEvB WLAN PCI Adapter from Realtek. How can i get my wlan running? I hoped so much that it would be the out of the box thing :-(( but no. I tried the latest cooking in live mode. By the way: Can't get slitaz installed from usb, it says rootfs.gz not found on /media/cdrom. Of course, because of booting from the stick and the edge has no dvd or cdrom.

I hope somebody can help and gives me a written solution for dummies :-)))

noob, how to install/reconfig wireless network drivers without network?

hi, just installed slitaz GNU/linux 3.0, so save an old pc (amd k6, 348mb ram) and runs perfectly with no lag whatsoever , but i cannot connect to web via wireless usb dongle (belkin 54g).

if i go to sys tools>wireless man.>auto detect devices>discover pci/usb devices i get..

detected pci devices kernel modules

module in use: tulip

module in use: snd_cmipci

det usb dev kernel mod

belkin 54g usb network adaptor

I made a liveUSB of the cooking slitaz iso. I have installed python and TCL and when I try to run a python script (which perfectly runs on ubuntu), I get an error:

I found that it may append when python is installed before TCL/Tk (tkinter). I tried to resinstall python and python dev after TCL and TCL dev but I still have the problem.

Xorg hijacks system from xvesa

Installing some packages lets xorg hijack the system without warning. Wine might be one cause but are there other packages that do that too?

I hope slitaz keeps xvesa or an equivalent or improvement, maybe a "slivesa" addon that fills the 5 most important holes without going all the way to xorg.

How do I set slitaz to shut itself down on idle? I do not mean sleep or hibernate. I mean activating the menu's shut down. I realize that unsaved information will not be saved.

I was reading the guide for Unusual Install Methods, and decided to try the "Loop Install" method. I don't understand the following part, so I thought I'd ask first:

Root filesystem files installation
Copy files from the rootfs.gz archive of a cdrom into the loopfile:
# mount /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom
# mount -o loop,ro slitaz.fs /media
# unlzma -c /media/cdrom/boot/rootfs.gz | ( cd /mnt; cpio -idmu )
# umount -d /mnt
# umount /media/cdrom

My first question is how do you first mount something on /media/cdrom, and then in the next step mount something else on /media? As I am reading the last two lines there, I begin to wonder is this a mistake; perhaps the second line should be:

# mount -o loop,ro slitaz.fs /mnt

so that /mnt can be used in the third line and then unmounted in the fourth line?

If so, then my next question is, shouldn't you mount the the loopfile as rw instead of ro? Otherwise how can you unpack anything into it with cpio? So actually, it must really be:

# mount -o loop,rw slitaz.fs /mnt

Or maybe I misunderstood this whole thing, which is very possible... :-P

I installed intel 3945 firmware for my wireless card. I had to download it using macpup 511 since I did not have a wired ethernet connection in my room to use so i have to use a wireless card. I downloaded the firmware and unpacked it but I suspect it is in the wrong filename and in the wrong place. I am using the cooking version of slitaz. I need to get the wireless working so I can demo the os to potential investors in my project using slitaz. Please assist me in getting this working. Thanks.

I would like to contact the development team to offer support for slitaz and would like to develop new ppc based computers based on the new qoriq based freescale power pc processors and imx616 dual and quad core processors as well as a multimedia box based on 5020 64 bit processor. I would like to offer financial support for slitaz and help with development of this power pc based derivative. I would like to offer workstations to developers when available. I have finished the design and am going to have a designer familiar with these processors finalize my design and get a parts list so I can produce prototypes and then go into full production by december of 2011. - in windows, I need to press fn-f2 to turn on the wireless card, does not seem to work with slitaz, in windows I can also right click on the the network icon and click repair, that also turns on the wireless card, is there something similar on slitez?

So I installed slitaz through the live cd installer
I used my c: hd from windows, partitioned it so it would have a 10g space to install slitaz on.
the installer went through and finished fine, asked me if I wanted to restart and I clicked yes
it ejected the cd, and my computer restarted.. I figured it would load to grub or back into slitaz
but for some reason it goes directly back to windows 7..

I'm working on not being a newbie here.. I need help on how to get my computer to allow me to bring up grub when I first turn the pc
on.. if anyone can give me a detailed step by step to fix this problem.. I'd love you

all I want is for slitaz to stay persistant I'm sick of trying to do stuff on slitaz and it not working..
like the package manager.. it never works from live cd.. I can install one package.. the get adobe flash package..
the rest of them fail to put folders/files onto my actual HD

Can't install thunderbird on slitaz 3

Hello, I have slitaz 3 installed and booting on a 4 GB usb stick. I installed Firefox and it works ok but I can't install Thunderbird. I have downloaded Thunderbird 3.1.9.tar.bz2 to /home/tux/download and extracted it to the same folder. when I go to Xterm and type tazpkg get-install thunderbird it returns: unable to find thunderbird in the mirrored packages list. I should be most grateful if anyone could help me solve this. The USB stick is formatted ext3.

Qemu segmentation fault error

Has anyone managed to get qemu working? I am running cooking with .37 kernel. I downloaded and installed qemu, but I can't seem to get it working. No matter what I do, it keeps throwing a segmentation fault. Even if I run it with no parameters, just # qemu, it throws a segmentation fault.

I need to get windows xp running for a few apps that are windows only, and I really don't want to setup a dual boot. Ideally, I should be able to fire up a vm session, do what I need to then turn it off.

Any pointers on what could be wrong with qemu would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Trying to run "get-flash-plugin (1.2)" script fails with

"Try 'wget --help' for more options."
"Usage: wget [OPTION]... [URL]..."

the script is correct, but the "-s" option in wget is case sensitive, it actually needs to be in caps "-S"

su root
nano /usr/bin/get-flash-plugin

Line 22: "if wget -s ${URL}install_flash_player_${i}_linux.tar.gz 2> /dev/null; then"

Should be

"if wget -S ${URL}install_flash_player_${i}_linux.tar.gz 2> /dev/null; then"

All thats changed is the case of the -S parameter

Save and run it again.

If you mess up your script through editing, you can simply reinstall the original

tazpkg remove get-flash-plugin
tazpkg get-install get-flash-plugin

and edit it again
